BOOK REVIEW: A Heart so Fierce and Broken (Cursebreakers, #2), by Brigid Kemmerer ~ The book with the most mind-blowing finale I’ve read so far in 2020! *SPOILER FREE*
~ A Heart so Fierce and Broken (Cursebreakers, #2), by Brigid Kemmerer

It feels as if it’s been so long since I last wrote a review about I book that totally blew my mind off, but that’s probably because my days lately have been blending into one lately, I’ve been reading so many books back to back and I have completely lost track of time.
Still, here I am today to rant a little bit about my feelings and thoughts revolving around the second book in the Cursebreakers series, written by Brigid Kemmerer, A Heart so Fierce and Broken.
*DISCLAIMER. IF YOU HAVEN’T READ A CURSE SO DARK AND LONELY YET, YOU MIGHT OR MIGHT NOT READ SOME SPOILERS FROM THE FIRST BOOK POPPING UP DURING THIS POST, SO I SUGGEST YOU PROCEED WITH CAUTION.*
“Find the heir, win the crown.
The curse is finally broken, but Prince Rhen of Emberfall faces darker troubles still. Rumors circulate that he is not the true heir and that forbidden magic has been unleashed in Emberfall. Although Rhen has Harper by his side, his guardsman Grey is missing, leaving more questions than answers.
Win the crown, save the kingdom.
Rumored to be the heir, Grey has been on the run since he destroyed Lilith. He has no desire to challenge Rhen–until Karis Luran once again threatens to take Emberfall by force. Her own daughter Lia Mara sees the flaws in her mother’s violent plan, but can she convince Grey to stand against Rhen, even for the good of Emberfall?
The heart-pounding, compulsively readable saga continues as loyalties are tested and new love blooms in a kingdom on the brink of war.
In the sequel to New York Times bestselling A Curse So Dark and Lonely, Brigid Kemmerer returns to the world of Emberfall in a lush fantasy where friends become foes and love blooms in the darkest of places.“

This second book is narrated by Grey’s and Lia Mara’s POVs, two characters that may or may not seem entirely new, considering that we got to meet Grey in the first book as Rhen’s Commander and we also got a few references about Karis Luran’s daughter towards the end of A Curse so Dark and Lonely. This basically means that, although this is the second book in the series, at the same time, it feels like a completely new series, as the protagonists are different from the ones we were used to.
To be honest, I didn’t mind AT ALL!
I was so glad to be back to this amazing world and I fell head over heels in love with Grey (not that I didn’t already love him, but you know what I mean), that I was super thrilled to realise that the sequel was narrated by his point of view. And as I got to the third chapter, I was also glad to meet and get to know a little bit better Lia Mara, the oldest daughter of Karis Luran.
I know I’ve said it countless times already but I fall in love with the book and I invest more on it when the characters are well-crafted and I can connect with them. Let me tell you that this book had two of the best characters I’ve ever come to meet in my literary experience. They felt real, they had flaws and insecurities, fears and hopes, and all those everyday qualities they had made them even more loveable and relatable to me.
I was fascinated to experience the world, Grey’s new everyday life and reality and Lia Mara’s life in court and her adventures in Rhen’s court (at least for a brief period of time) through their own eyes and not through Harper’s or Rhen’s, that by the end of the fourth or fifth chapter I knew that this was going to be an epic read.
The writing style was once again amazing, the descriptions of places, people, situations and emotions were breathtaking, and the plot twists and revelations kept coming out of nowhere, making this book unputdownable!
I loved to see how certain acts and decisions triggered certain powers and characteristics both Lia Mara and Grey had, and I loved to see how that helped them evolve and develop as characters.
I absolutely adored the new bromances that occurred throughout the book, as well as the new romance that slowly bloomed and became fiercer and so very intense by the end of the novel.

Speaking of the novel’s finale, that was such a roller coaster of emotions, from Grey’s return to the castle, to Lia Mara’s new status, to Rhen’s ultimate revelation that I completely lost my mind! Honestly guys… The finale was JAW-DROPPING!
Just to show you in more detail what I mean, let me just give you some of the notes I wrote down as I was reading the final chapters of the book.
“THAT COLD-BLOODED BITCH!”
~ Note on page 410
“Even in A Curse so Dark and Lonely, I never really liked Then, probably because I knew that he was traumatised to an extend I couldn’t really fathom. But to feel betrayed by Grey after everything this man has done for him… I just hope Harper will make Then see reason in the end.”
~ Note on page 442
“Ok, I take that back. I didn’t see the finale coming AT ALL! That BITCH Karis Luran is… but the grandest BITCH… is still alive! Rhen is trapped once again! Harper doesn’t know about this and neither does Grey. HOLY GUACAMOLE!”
~ Note on page 445
So, yeah… The last forty or so pages were a roller coaster or ups and downs, plot twists and revelations, excitement, anger, fear and utter surprise!
Naturally I ended up rating this book with 5/5 stars and I highly recommend you guys pick it up if you haven’t done so already.
All I can think about right now is that I would feel extremely grateful, lucky and honoured if I got an ARC of A Vow so Bold and Deadly, the third and final instalment in the series, which will be released in 2021, January 12.
And to just give a little hint to those who have already read the first two books, here’s the blurb of the third novel.
*DISCLAIMER! SPOILERS COMING UP FROM A CURSE SO DARK AND LONELY AND A HEART SO FIERCE AND BROKEN!*
“Emberfall is torn between those who believe Rhen is the rightful prince and those who are eager to begin a new era under the true heir, Grey. Grey has agreed to wait two months before attacking Rhen, and in that time, Rhen has sought the assistance of a spy despite Harper’s doubts.
Meanwhile, Lia Mara struggles to rule Syhl Shallow with a gentler hand than her mother. But some of her subjects aren’t happy that Lia Mara has an enchanted prince and magical scraver by her side. As Grey’s deadline draws nearer, Lia Mara is forced to question whether or not she can remain allied to his cause.
This compulsively readable saga continues as two kingdoms come closer to conflict—and an old enemy resurfaces who could destroy them all.”
Holy freaking guacamole!
