The Book of Mysteries by Jonathan Cahn

The Book of Mysteries by Jonathan CahnI read with great interest the author Cahn’s elevating the ‘teacher’ to great heights as the teacher gives lessons from a low perch. Ah, the lessons grabbed me as they inspired me to write. Each page’s lesson was framed from the ordinary in life. But the result felt like a revelation. As if going over old material allowed me to see a new idea or to seek a new journey or to feel something lost to me before. The book of teachings is to be read and absorbed re...

Writing props everywhere...

On my street alone while I walked an easy mile, I heard or saw several stories One couple, natives to Massachusetts, in mid-life are moving to Tennessee and have already sold their home to a neighbor who has sold his home. Two  or three stories from that event alone with the bigger one being there is no backlog of houses available in Springfield, Massachusetts for sale at this moment. If you see one come up in your neighborhood that you like, go for it. Another home has added a handicapped ramp to the front door and that is a big story.  Our neighborhood sponsored a pumpkin carving contest and the pumpkins grace the pillars at the street's entrance. And a couple have he wow factor.

The big story is that neighbors cared. Over five hundred children, and sincerely less than fifty were from the neighborhood, traveled our few streets and got their sugar ransom. The bigger story is the inflow of parents following their children to ensure their safety and the joy of watching the wonderful creative costumes floating in the night. Family life is alive in the U.S. A car broke down on our street and our neighbors helped change a tire for the teenager. This ordinary kindness is a wonder to see these days. Twenty trees were removed from one home and the cleared land now gave the homeowner a back yard never envisioned before. The story is home owners are home more and taking a deeper interest in their 'digs.'

Colorful autumn decorations prevail contrasted with the dried leaves falling in a rainstorm of crinkling. So many stories. I could write a crime story around each event even if it is a happy story or I could write a philosophical argument supporting the production of joy walking in my neighborhood gives.

Mystery of Life

As I wait for the publishing of my seventh mystery novel (BERYL KENT AND THE BLEEDING MAN) and work on my eighth (BERYL KENT AND MURDERING WORDS) wherein I introduce a new character in the Captain Beauregard Mystery Series, I find real life more of a mystery.
My credit card has been compromised. How did someone from a legitimate company charge $488.00 to my account for services I not only don't need but have never heard of before?. Thankfully my card company saw something untoward about the transaction. What if I had not read the CC company's email? Now I await a new card and cannot use my current card. I must say the conversation with my CC company only took thirty minutes. It will take two or three days to get my new card. I guess it is a cost in time of doing business via the internet. Consider the several letters I have received telling me a person wants ten thousand dollars in bit coin or they will show the world compromising pictures. Since my life style revolves around writing, show me anything compromising. Living today can present a constant state of anxiety for us about 'what could happen.' Some folks, victims of identity theft must claim new identities involving social security numbers.

Talk about mystery. I, as a writer, can't compete with life. Cyber Crime needs real Cyber Police. Cyber Crime touches all of us. We need a national center to help the individual through the process of loss because we as individuals do not have the wherewithal to solve these problems affecting our fiscal and personal lives.

Theory to Practice

I love reading theory in any major academic area. For instance, reading possibilities based on theory in Physics I find interesting. However, more interesting to me is the application of Physics to Engineering, Medicine, Environmental Science, etc. Application of theory is where my heart rests. Check out when reading literature explanatory texts, where the reviewer attempts to explore the author's treatment of the subject, the subject, historical analysis of the subject in response to some aspect of living, inspiration from a creative spirit, and more. But in the case of literature, the literary work stands alone as an implementation, we hope, of good grammar, great plotting if fiction, thorough research if non-fiction, a worthy or interesting subject, and the recognition over time of value.
Writing is an art form. Writing should inspire some joy in the author, and interest from the reader.
As a reader, when you read, think about the choices the author made in implementation of the possibilities allowed in the selected genre. Enjoy your reading and inspire your author with your thoughts.

New Experience

I’ve spent the last three weeks at a hospital and rehab facility with a loved one. I am not the patient. I am the observer. I am the one who must make all the decisions. I must attempt to portray the thoughts and wishes of my loved one in a socially graceful manner. I have a background in business and policy and public relations. I am a thoughtful person. Still, these experiences are new to me. Who am I to make decisions for another? Who am I to interpret the efficacy of care given to mine? Who ...

Cover for Beryl Kent and the Bleeding Man – A Captain Beauregard Mystery

Cover, cover, cover – who knew when I entered writing mystery novels as my work, I would spend so much time looking at mock-ups for a novel’s cover; I didn’t. I thought writing a blurb about my book was a difficult process. Difficult because I’m trying to say in less than thirty words a picture of the plot and characters. Then, my photographer son would say, “A picture is worth a thousand words.”

Ah, but choosing a picture, drawing, or graphic to woo the reader to read the contents, well, it is ...

Spark

The spark is back. I am writing my eighth book, while waiting for the art for my seventh book’s cover. August and September were such busy months with vacations, family events, garden changes, plumbing problems dropping my dining room ceiling with a flush of water. Oh, nothing but physical work. However, when I am at events I listen and I watch people. This lovely yellow flower is today’s wellspring for dreaming, but listening to others inspires my characters. People display themselves in ...

Anxiety…

Family, writing, business, reading, and friends have me slightly discombobulated today. There is just so much energy I have and in the past I thought I was among the most energetic. That was when I wasn’t writing books; when my family was at a smaller size; when business decisions involved less paperwork; when friends were healthier; when I could read until two in the morning and not feel it the next day. That was then, not now. I have had a weekend attending a family baby shower for eighty-five...

Overwhelmed

Family, writing, business, reading, and friends have me slightly discombobulated today. There is just so much energy I have and in the past I thought I was among the most energetic. That was when I wasn't writing books; when my family was at a smaller size; when business decisions involved less paperwork; when friends were healthier; when I could read until two in the morning and not feel it the next day. That was then, not now. I have had a weekend attending a family baby shower for eighty-five ladies and three men, a baby's first birthday, my dining room ceiling falling down from a plumbing situation, and my forced and urgent correction of these problems to host a planned event in nine days at my home.
Guess what! Reading has taken a back seat and I miss it. I believe reading and writing are my sedatives and pain killers. Now I have the forced anxiety of coping with my problems with out my reading and writing. It's only for two weeks, you say! I'm suffering. Soon I may again have balance in my life.
