I can't believe it's August already!
August? It’s August? Well, it’s hot enough to be August! And you know what else is hot?
Marked Brides is set to be released on Friday. Y’all don’t want to miss this amazing anthology. I think it has something for everyone. A little inside story? When you write an anthology, the authors have to communicate so that it is cohesive and works together. Pepper, Allysa, Lesley, Maren, Morganna, and I worked together and shared info and ideas throughout the project. My favorite communication came from Maren who was concerned when she read Ally’s piece that hers might not be a good fit as hers was quite a bit darker. My response? I sent her a scene from Wildcat. Let’s just say, I allayed her concerns!
Excerpt from Wildcat (my contribution):
“So, you are awake,” he rumbled in what she supposed might pass for a soothing, if not seductive, tone.
Salem sat up in bed. “I am and you are trespassing. Get out.”
The laugh that came from the enormous, muscular male sounded a bit like rumbling thunder, but he made no move towards her. He was taller than any man she’d ever met. His tawny hair had been streaked by the sun. His clothing appeared to be made of leather than had come from a beast and not synthesized. The intruder’s face was strong and angular with stubble the same shade as his hair. His eyes were large and the color of amber. Had she met him under other circumstances, she most likely would have found him attractive and ended up having sex with him. Everything about him oozed strength, masculinity and prowess.
“That is not the proper way to greet your mate in the morning, but then normally, like you, I will be naked, sharing your furs and it will be my cock that nudges you awake.”
“My furs? Your cock? I don’t like the sound of that,” snarled Salem.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if the next few days introduce you to a lot of things you aren’t going to like, but that you will learn to accept.”
“Obviously, you don’t know me, or you’d know I don’t tend to accept things I don’t like, and frankly I’ve decided I don’t like you. Get out!”
On a personal note, I woke up this morning to a private message from a reader who took time out of her life to thank me. She has experienced some enormous personal losses of late and said she was drawing strength from my Wayward Mates and Warrior Women. I have a very realistic view of what I write – I love it, but I never think of it as much beyond entertainment. When a reader shares with me that I somehow, in some small way, made a positive impact on their life? Well, let’s just say that it makes me deeply humble and grateful that something I do has the power to help.
As always, thank you for your continued support. I wouldn’t be able to do what I love doing without you. Take care of yourselves and each other.
