Muhammad Adam Ali was born on 28 December 1970 in Dhaka. He passed SSC in 1986 from Motijheel Model High School, Dhaka, and HSC in 1988 from University Laboratory College, Dhaka. He then joined Bangladesh Navy and did his B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET) in 1995.

He did his staff course at Defense Services Command & Staff College, Mirpur, and was awarded Masters Certificate on Military Strategy in 2006 under National University. He was promoted to the rank of Commander and left the service on 01 Sep 2011.
