Dubious Disciple Revisits Angel

The Dubious Disciple, Lee Harmon, revisited Angel after giving it time for further reflection.

I reviewed this book a few days ago, labeling it an “uncomfortable page-turner,” and its bizarre story still grips me. My primary criterion for ranking is whether or not a book makes me think … obviously, this one does. As such, it deserves additional discussion, and this time around it gets five stars. That the between-the-lines message of the book still grips me is a testament to its importance within its Christian setting.

One More Chance to Win Angel

If you missed the Goodreads giveaway of the novel Angel you have one more chance. The web site Books and Other Creative Adventures, which also features a fairly long interview about the book, has one copy to give away.

Here's a quick preview of the interview:

So far the response has been mostly positive. I haven’t really encountered any opposition, but if the book becomes more visible that will probably change. To be honest, I think I would handle someone flaming me because of some religious opposition to gay rights better than I would handle it if someone said the writing was terrible. I know that some people will not respond well to the idea of a bisexual minister and there is nothing I could do that would make those people like the book or consider what it has to say. So that doesn’t bother me much. What is more problematic is the idea that people might hear what it is about and simply say, “that’s not for me,” and not give it a chance because of assumptions they have about what “gay fiction” or “spiritual fiction” are.

You can read the whole thing by following the same link for the contest.

I talk about why the book is dedicated to my father, how writers and publishers are dealing with the changing publishing landscape and share one of my favorite passages from the book.

State of Belief Radio Interview

I had a very nice conversation with Rev. Dr. C. Welton Gaddy on State of Belief radio. I had an opportunity to hear the program and the edited and packaged segment on the show this morning. You can see my previous post for some of the stations where it will be airing this weekend. You can also listen to the streaming version on line.

Here is a quote from the interview:

“The central character, Paul, is someone who is really looking for a transcendent experience and he’s looking for a deep and meaningful kind of relationship that goes beyond the superficial. So for him, his relationship with this young man has a very deep, spiritual element and he is trying to find very deep meaning in it, and this is contrasted by the reaction he is getting from society and how it might seem to other people.”

An extended version of the interview has been posted.

Angel: Available for Orders Be One of the First

First of all, I would like to thank Bishop Craig Bergland for helping me get things off to such a great start with my first interview about the book Angel. It is archived online if you didn't get a chance to hear it.

I will also be on a program called
Love Buffet Style this Sunday at 6 PM. I'm very interested to see what direction that discussion will take.

There are a few places that you can now order Angel. We're hoping it will be listed on some of the big online vendors soon and of course in your local indie book sellers. In the meantime, here are your options. Physical books can be ordered directly from the publisher. You can order now and they will ship when they become available on August 27. Ebooks can also be purchased there after the 27th.

If you like ebooks, OmniLit is having a special sale this month so you can get Angel for $5.24 with rebate. It has both buy now and pre-order buttons. So I am not sure if you will be able to download before the 27th. But if you like ebooks, this is probably the best price you will find.

Finally, if you would like an autographed copy, you can order through my web site. (My other books can be found there too.) This will probably take a few days longer than ordering from the publisher because they are shipped to me and I ship to you, but ordering from me you get my signature and the knowledge that I will know you ordered and be happy that someone wants to read my book.

I'll keep you updated as more options to get the book become available.

Finally, if you have a review site or you are a journalist and would like to request a review copy, you can do so through Net Galley.

I am very excited to be doing my first interview about Angel. I will be appearing on the ChristEnlight podcast on Wednesday at 11 AM.

Speaking of answering questions... If anyone wants to get the ball rolling in the Laura Lee author Q&A, it's really quiet over there.
