Ballpoint Pen Study

Here’s another ballpoint pen study for fun. Doing these ballpoint pen illustrations relaxes me. The act of cross-hatching has a calming effect. It’s almost like meditation. I guess the repetitive motion puts the brain in “cruise control” and frees up the mind. Like that old saying goes: “Occupy the body. Free the mind.”

I’ve used a BIC ballpoint pen black ink with medium point on Bristol board vellum surface, 300 series.

Women Book 2 by Frank Cho: Final Cover

Here’s the final cover layout to my art book, Women Book 2. I had a blast oil painting this cover. I was playing around with the design, texture and different paint mediums. You can see from the background that I was studying the great Gustav Klimt paintings.

Unfortunately, as you can see I had to cover up her culo because here in America, violence is okay but nudity is evil. :-)

But don’t worry, inside the book will have the complete uncensored image along with other paintings and ballpoint pen pin-ups.

Ballpoint Pen Art From Montreal Comic-Con

I sometimes get restless at conventions. I often like to catch up on old movies or sketch for fun at hotels. Montreal was no exception.

I drew this ballpoint art at the Montreal show two weeks ago in my hotel room with the hotel ballpoint pen while watching a movie. This piece was actually a gift for a friend of mine, a sketch in his art book. I was happy how evenly the ballpoint pen ink flowed and covered the paper. I should have kept the hotel pen and see what brand it was.
