A Bit Anticlimactic: MFRW Book Hooks 16 September 2020

The BlurbGeeky Gandy Stafford's lifelong fantasy comes true when he meets the otherworldly Dorma and Desyra. These last remnants of a botched extraterrestrial invasion discover that they require a great deal of energy to maintain their human forms.
The easiest way to obtain essential power?
Sex, and lots of it.
The Snippet“Yeah, uh, never mind. I’ve got a lot to teach you. Now, I know it may be a real letdown for the pair of you to have stumbled across a nobody like me, but from my side, this is the coolest thing that has ever happened! I can’t wait to learn more about your people. How did you end up here anyway?”
“We were resting in the pod when the ship was struck by multiple objects. The pod released and deposited us here.”
“Oh, so, not an epic space battle or something. That’s kind of anticlimactic. I mean—that was a dumb thing to say. I’m sorry about your ship and all. But maybe more of your kind came here.”

The NotesLast time, Ketil and Ytizy met ghouls Little John Tamboli and Robin Roberts outside the Xura Dream House.https://www.naughtynetherworldpress.com/2020/09/weekend-writing-warriors-6-september.html
The Snippet“We have heard of the House of Lost Dreams, young blond shade of a fencepost,” the small ghoul cackled. “We have also heard of Lord Ketil Morbid. Dead as a doornail has he been since the age of twenty-five, but a lost soul he is not, per se, for he is spotted everywhere about the Dreamlands. This companion of yours we have not seen previously, Lord Morbid. Is this the legendary Eihort, come to convolute and pollute our brains with his parasitic brood?”
“This is not Eihort, and well you know it, annoying tomtenisse,” Ketil retorted. “Eihort is described as a ‘bloated blanched oval, supported on a myriad of fleshless legs’ with eyes continuously forming in its gelatinous body. This is my friend Yitzy, a member of the venerated Great Race of Yith. Anyone with working vision can see that his body is conical, not ovoid. He has no legs, only a great snail-like foot upon which he glides surprisingly gracefully, and he has a constant set of three eyes; further, his form is far more rubbery than gelatinous.”

Tackle It Tuesday: Blogging With ADHD and Anxiety

Having a brain that doesn't work the way brains "should" puts a person on a lonely road in this world when people are impatient and unwilling to understand. Which, to be honest, is most of the time. With posts like this one, I hope to foster tolerance and to encourage an attitude of helping people learn and grow rather than ostracizing those who don't fit the mold.
I'm not talking about trolls and spammers. They should be banished with extreme prejudice.
I'm talking about those bloggers who aren't "good" bloggers. The people who may not reply to comments right away and sometimes don't reply at all. The people whose participation in blog hops is irregular at best. The people who don't return visits or sometimes visit only a few people on the blog hop.
These kinds of people tend to get labeled with epithets like "jerk" and other less kind names and are thought of as being rude and selfish. However, in my experience, most people whose "blogging etiquette" is not up to Emily Blog-Post's standards are not the bungholes of the blogging world, they are overwhelmed.

I still struggle with the comments part of things. I'm pretty good about visiting all the blogs in the writers' blog hops (except for the IWSG--let's not go there), but sometimes it may take me a while to getting around to publishing comments, and, depending on my state of mind, I may not be able to reply to them. That isn't ideal, but I'm better than I used to be about it, and I probably will never be perfect. I could get drunk before replying to comments, but that wouldn't be pretty and it's not a good idea, so I think I won't employ that strategy.
I have ADHD, which means that I'm garbage with organizing things. However, one trick I've learned--very recently--is to prepare my posts ahead of time. I missed this month's MFRW Steam Hop because I'm disorganized and forgot about the sucker.
To ensure that I'll be up to speed for future MFRW Steam hops, I've prescheduled my posts for October, November, and December. I can go back in and edit the posts as needed, and they will be there in my queue for this blog to remind me that I need to add my linky to the hop at the appropriate time.
Thus, the TL:DR for this post is:
Disorganized Wonders, schedule your posts ahead of time whenever possible. It will make your blogging experience easier.
Practically Perfect People, please try to be patient with those who seem to always be running behind and whose etiquette may not entirely align with yours. You don't know what challenges they may be dealing with. Don't curse them out or call them names like "dead weight" or "jerk."
I'm in my fifties now and am just learning certain things that might have saved me a lot of misery if I'd caught on sooner. Nothing has come easily to me, and it didn't help that I had people calling me stupid, flaky, and selfish. We should try to build one another up rather than tearing each other down.

A Geeky Guide: MFRW Book Hooks 8 August 2020

The BlurbGeeky Gandy Stafford's lifelong fantasy comes true when he meets the otherworldly Dorma and Desyra. These last remnants of a botched extraterrestrial invasion discover that they require a great deal of energy to maintain their human forms.
The easiest way to obtain essential power?
Sex, and lots of it.
The Snippet“Why is the Supreme Game Lord responsible for the tending of the grounds?” Dorma asked.
“Um...well...look, Ladies, honestly, that’s a title I gave myself just for fun. Supreme Game Lord sounds a lot cooler than groundskeeper. It’s a little harmless delusion to keep me going. The truth is, you probably couldn’t have found a more uncool representative of my species if you tried. I’m kind of a loser and definitely a dork. But I do have good observational skills, and that’ll come in handy. Because you two may be a super-advanced species, but without me, you’re totally gonna stand out like an ice trooper in a lava lounge.”
The two invaders gazed curiously at Gandy.

The SnippetJust as Ketil and Yitzy were about to enter the House of Lost Dreams, an impressively tall and corpulent ghoul and his diminutive companion approached. The small ghoul was feasting on a piece of liver while his large friend consumed a chunk of thigh.
“Excuse and pardon us, good chaps,” the portly ghoul demurred, tipping his newsboy cap. “Before you enter this place of occultish occurrence, my chum and I would like to take just a peek on your behalf, simply to ensure that you will have a perfectly safe and relaxing visit.”
“Are you perhaps new around here, old tomtenisse?” Ketil inquired. “Surely, I would recall seeing such an impressive ghoul as yourself previously, but there again, I have seen many ghouls. I ask if you are new, because if you were accustomed to the ways of Xura, you would know that this is not a house of relaxation and recreation. It is a house not well to enter unless one must. Even then it is a house not well to enter, but one must.”

Insecure Writers Support Group 2 September 2020: My Posthumous Writing Partner

This month's question from the Insecure Writers' Support Group:September 2 question - If you could choose one author, living or dead, to be your beta partner, who would it be and why?
Well...
Apparently, these days it's not a popular opinion, but I am as much the anti-popularity chick as I am the anti-fashion chick, so I don't care too much about that.
It's obvious to anyone who subjects themselves to my writing on a regular basis that I have been heavily influenced by H.P. Lovecraft.
Lovecraft is not a popular influence in these days of Wokeness because his strange upbringing and phobias of pretty much everything led him to hold unfortunate xenophobic viewpoints. However, I was a Lovecraft connaisseur long before the Wokescolds decided to wring every last drop of enjoyment out of every last thing that they could get their Woke claws on, and I endeavored to learn about the author himself as well as deriving enjoyment from his stories.
What I learned about Lovecraft from people who actually knew the man and scholars who studied his correspondence with people who actually knew him was that he had a generous spirit and that many of the stories with other people's bylines on them were mostly ghostwritten by Lovecraft, although he had been hired as an editor and never asked for a writing credit.
If I were working with Lovecraft, I would insist that he accept a writing credit for his efforts.
This is why I would like H.P. Lovecraft to be my beta writing partner.
My other choices would be Edgar Allan Poe and Stephen King, both of whom have also had strong influences on my writing. In fact, Stephen King's suggestions helped me to become more concise, although I still have a tendency to incorporate too many characters into a given scene. I'm working on it!

“Do you find this appearance acceptable, Terran?” one of the aliens inquired.
“Yeah, it’s a lot better. The voice still needs work, but at least you don’t look like you just finished a shift at the Deep Space Underground Cabaret. So, just let me do the talking if anyone finds us. Say, do you have names? It would help if I had something that I could call you.”
“I am Dorma, lead wing commander.”
“I am Desyra, junior vice admiral. And you are Supreme Game Lord Ganda Aleph.”

Why? Because I want to!

The question for week 35 of the MFRW 52 Week Blogging Challenge is Plots: What period in history and why?
My reply is whenever, wherever, and whatever I think fits because that is how I roll.
My universe has multiple timelines that converge and interact. Like my mind, it is intricate, imperfect, and somewhat difficult to explain, but I will try to break things down.
I was born one day after Valentine’s day in 1965 and have been writing and creating for as long as I can remember. I learned how to read when I was four years old, and by the time I was six, I was reading Edgar Allan Poe. I’ve also loved the old horror comics from that tender age. I love gothic horror as well as mid-twentieth-century horror.
I am honestly not particularly keen on most modern horror. As a rule, I don’t enjoy splatter or exploitation, although I absolutely loved Return of the Living Dead.
I can’t recall my first exposure to science fiction, but I’ve always loved learning about the Universe. My father had a lot of old comics and books and what are now known as graphic novels. I imagine my earliest exposure to sci-fi involved comics such as Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers.
I like paranormal romance if it’s done right. Twilight is most assuredly not my cup of tea. Give me the original Dracula or Fright Night. That, my friends, is the way it’s done.
The ingredients in my writing involve a heaping helping of Lovecraftian steampunk. Incorporate a long-dead world that got screwed over by its inept king’s attempt to master forces that don’t take well to being ordered about. Jump even further back in time to a cosmos held in the sway of unforgiving forces and introduce a pair of nearly omnipotent star-crossed lovers to learn the motivations of a pissed-off witch sired by the powerful trickster god spawned by the embodiment of primordial chaos.
Move ahead in time to the early twenty-first century and meet an unfortunate musician whose cognitive abilities are starting to fail. This self-deprecating chap is at the eye of the raging wibbly wobbly timey wimey temporal storm. There are dead worlds and damned souls and more timelines than you can shake a stick at, and as for why, the only answer I have is because that’s the way I see it, and if I didn’t see it, I don’t even know if I’d still be here.

The SnippetThe bodies of the gelatinous aliens bubbled, and a moment later, their appearances had shifted to that of two attractive women in their early twenties, clad in extremely tight-fitting silver mini dresses. Both had long platinum blonde hair, pale blue eyes, and translucent white skin.
“Is this acceptable, Terran?” one of the aliens asked in a monotone voice.
“Well, uh, close. Except you sound like a robot and you look like a couple of strippers or porn stars. Sorry, I’m afraid you went a little too deep into my unconscious and saw my masturbation material. You’re totally going to call attention to yourselves. You want to make your voice more like mine, except you want to sound more feminine if you’re going to appear to be female. Also, you want to look a little less like you’re starring in an X-rated version of Star Wars. Right, you don’t know what that is. Here, look into my mind again. I’ll give you a thought of a more realistic-looking girl.”
The aliens touched their fingers to Gandy’s temples. Their appearances shifted to that of two young women with long, dark blonde hair and blue eyes. They were now clad in innocuous attire.
