First Look Friday: Indiscriminate Mixtures

Indiscriminate Mixtures

“Existence is filled with indiscriminate mixtures,” Yadira noted as she and her father approached West Zecor’s once-stately art museum. “Consider, for instance, the blessing-curse of our power to grant wishes. Our actions save lives but destroy worlds. We are endlessly sought after by desperate souls because of our power, and we are hated and feared for that same power. My soul is haggard, crushed by the persistent procession of seekers coaxing me with treasure that I have no use for or, worse, offering up kissable nothings that I find utterly distasteful.”

“Your temperament is similar to your mother’s,” Nyarlathotep remarked. “When I first met Nathicana, the troubles of the Cosmos weighed heavy on her gentle soul. It brought me great joy to ease her burden.”

“Mother’s temperament was softer than mine,” Yadira countered. “I have no patience for petty tyrants with inflated egos. Do you recall how that fool Qweh tried to bribe me by offering me my own empire replete with all the luxury I could dream of? I reminded him in no uncertain terms that if I desired an empire or luxury, I could have such with the blink of my eyes, a twitch of my nose, a snap of my fingers, or a wave of my hand. He was truly one of the most ignoble and ignorant individuals that we have dealt with, do you not agree?”

“True, but even he had his moments. He did, after all, commission the creation of this museum.”

“Ondina was the force behind that. The sweet princess wished to give hope to the realm’s many artistic failures, making them feel if only for a moment as if their futile efforts might count for something.”

“Everyone wishes to be immortal. Those whose works reside eternally in this museum mausoleum were granted a measure of immortality when their pieces became part of West Holpry’s celebrated art collection. People like believing in the pretends, Yadira. And, as you know, sometimes things that appear to be fabrications are actually doorways to different realities.”

“Everyone wishes to be immortal, yet those who are immortal often wish that they were not,” Yadira mused. “There may be something to be said for having a lifespan so short that one never loses innocence. It is impossible to maintain uncorrupted hope and belief once pain, loss, and injustice have become a part of life. When one has lived as long as we have, a hardness forms around a heart pierced by a dagger that can never be removed. Oh, dear, I am sure that you must despair of this conversation. Let me try things your way. Look at the algon that have escaped their globes and climbed the walls. They resemble drawings made from phosphorescent chalk.”

“I appreciate the appearance of the colonies that have formed along the walls where water drips and streams from the roof,” Nyarlathotep agreed. “There are those who would say that the algon are weeds that need to be eliminated, but this would certainly be a dull world without the beauty of the algon. This colony is a striking shade of juniper, while its neighbor has taken on a hue of opalescent iris. Has it occurred to you, my daughter, that we may have answered Zecor’s prayer to be free of the two-legged parasites that colonized it? The psychic screams of tortured phantasms grow fainter with the passage of time.”

WIP Wednesday: A Walk in the Wild West End

Image by Peter H from Pixabay

“That’s the thing about this city.”

The crone’s voice was barely audible, but her companion would have known her thoughts even if she had not spoken. From a superficial viewpoint, she was an unremarkable woman of medium height and build with a countenance that none would consider comely.

The crone had cultivated her appearance to call as little attention as possible to herself, her wild gray hair and the deep lines on her face shielding her from the nuisance of having to parry the undesired thrusts of lust from men too thick to pick up on obvious physical cues of disinterest and with egos so bloated with entitlement that even an outright declaration of disgust was met with persistence. Yadira Root had better things to do than engage in demeaning mating dances with would-be rapists.

Despite her attempts to render herself invisible, Yadira possessed a charisma that could not be ignored. The set of her jaw and the look in her eyes revealed that this crone was not someone to be trifled with. Besides, Yadira could never content herself with drab attire. Her dramatic robes were a source of enjoyment for a soul who had known great strife. She was particularly fond of the robe she now wore, which depicted swirling galaxies adrift in the endless Universe.

“What about this city?”

Yadira’s companion was a tall, striking-looking man with long black hair, a swarthy complexion, and angular features. He wore a royal blue suit that befitted his regal carriage.

The pair shared eyes the color of outer space and a powerful, platonic bond. It was apparent that anyone who messed with one would face the wrath of the other. To those unfamiliar with them, they might appear to be a mother and son, an aunt and nephew, or, perhaps, an elder sister and younger brother.

“It’s a rotting corpse and it was even while it lived, Father. This planet is corrupt to its core and its noxiousness continues to leech into the Cosmos. Would that it had been destroyed when the small star caused itself to go nova as it glutted itself on its companion’s energies. Alas, no, Zecor remains intact, bathed in the gamma rays of its dead suns.”

“Oh, Yadira,” Nyarlathotep sighed, putting his arm around his daughter’s shoulders, drawing her close, and kissing the top of her head as he had done from the time she was born. “You have known far more of misery and destruction than anyone should. I am so sorry.”

“There is no need for apologies, Father, you know that,” Yadira chided gently, linking her arm in Nyarlathotep’s. “Well, where shall we walk to in the eternal night? Shall we go to the palace, or should we head for the Ktenology center where the bodies of the foolish king, his idiot followers, and his final victims lay, preserved forever by the peculiar effects of this sepulchral world?”

Ravenous Vixen. LOL, that sounds like a character for a new series of erotica shorts at Naughty Netherworld Press. I'll have to keep it in mind. Is RV a man-eater, does she like the ladies, or does she want the best of both worlds? https://t.co/3kekcTWNjx

Cloned Heat III: An Unexpected Ally #MFRWHooks #RainbowSnippets #SnipSun #8Sunday

Genre:M/M erotica, sci-fi
Length:3000 words
Content Advisory:BDSM, group sex, cliffhanger
Blurb:

Carnal Invasion II found fugitive Hangiri roughnecks Iker Macauley and Peregrine Varga en route to the monastery with the sweet and sexy pleasure clone Ohannes Herod Hertz. Ohannes wanted more of the good stuff he’d been served up the night before and Iker found himself unable to resist the lithe Lothario.
The fellows were caught with their pants down by a rogue military patrol who took them back to their base where they were introduced to the renegade scientist, General Darden Uffe Bissette, and his strangely seductive amphibious pleasure clone, Finn Storm. Ohannes quickly fell under Finn’s spell and it appeared that the siren easily held everyone but Iker and Peregrine in his sway.
Iker and Peregrine now discover that they have an ally in Colonel Zaccheus Laocoön Ionescu. But will they be able to save Ohannes from Finn’s enchantment?

Snippet

As Iker and Peregrine searched the laboratory for a way to safely tranquilize their captors, they were surprised by the appearance of Colonel Ionescu.

“Me tink maybe me find you boys here,” the jovial soldier said with a smirk, nearly causing Iker to drop the vial he was holding.

“Now look, Partner, we don’t want any trouble,” Iker advised. “It’s true that you are large and combat-trained, but there are two of us, and we ain’t no slouches when it comes to a fight.”

“Me not here to stop you,” Ionescu demurred. “But you not know what you be seekin’. Me do. Me just wantin’ me squad back. You can see Bissette be an egomaniac, but he ain’t who’s really in charge here.”

WIP Wednesday: Ida's Vampire

Targeted version 7
The image is my creation and will be utilized as the cover image when my book is published. You may share it for non-commercial purposes if proper credit is given to Cara Hartley, The Real Cie, Ornery Owl, Team Netherworld, or Naughty Netherworld Press.

Ida’s Vampire

“Help me! Oh, for God’s sake, somebody help me! There’s a vampire in my room!”

It was 4:15 in the morning, and up until that moment, things had been quiet at Candlelight Ridge Care Center. Night nurse Ace Murray, who had dozed while working on his never-ending charting, snapped to attention, banging his knee on the desk as he jerked awake. Security guard Thomas Octavian, who had ducked into the day room for “a wee kip” before starting his last set of rounds, came to with a snort from his uncomfortable position on a loveseat that was far too small to properly support a man with the build of a Sumo wrestler.

Thomas groaned as he wiped drool from the side of his mouth. He grabbed a sip of water, pulled his long, brown hair back in a ponytail, and hurried to see what the fuss was about.

A birdlike woman with wild jet-black hair stood in the hallway, screaming. Ace gently touched her arm.

“Here now, Ida, what’s it all about?” he inquired.

“There’s a bloody vampire in my room, young fellow!” Ida insisted. “Ooh, I’m not sure that even a big, strong policeman like this chap will be able to help us.”

“’Course I can, Mum,” Thomas insisted. “I always keep a wooden stake handy in case of vampires.”

“Well, I don’t think a wooden stake will help you with this vampire. It’s made of Christmas lights!”

“That certainly is unusual,” Ace agreed. “I suppose we’ll have to use magic rather than wooden stakes. You wait in the hall for just a moment, Ida. Tom and I will pop in and survey the situation.”

In the room, Thomas took what appeared to be a red marble from his pocket. Ace intoned arcane words and waved his hand. A group of symbols in the shape of an arch became visible on the ceiling. The marble glowed, revealing the image of a cluster of lights emerging through the gate.

“She wasn’t imagining things,” Ace said. “Let me call Casey down here. He can keep Ida calm whilst we seal off this gate.”

“Mate, yer the one with the calming demeanor,” Thomas countered. “Casey’s a 58-year-old eager beaver. He’ll want to be part of the cleanup work. Let him help me slap a psychic band-aid on the situation while you mellow Ida out and get to work on your incident report.”

“Yeah, when yer right, yer right,” Ace agreed. “C’mon, Ida, what do you say we go have a cuppa?”

ABOUT THE STORY

This is a chapter from my WIP, The Ballad of Gerry Clifford.

Candlelight Ridge Care Home in London's storied Crouch End borough is being infiltrated by threatening entities. Gerry Clifford is aware of these entities and their bad intentions, but who will believe a man with dementia?

Purchasing the PDF helps support my work financially. However, if you are in the deep end of the doo-doo pond money-wise, many of my advance chapters are submitted to the Reedsy weekly writing prompt contest and eventually become available to read there for free.

Cloned Heat II: Full First Chapter #MFRWAuthor #MFRWHooks #MFRWSteam #RainbowSnippets #SnipSun #8Sunday

Genre:M/M erotica, sci-fi
Blurb:

While fleeing fearsome Pingucury raiders, hunky roughnecks Iker Macauley and Peregrine Varga encountered Ohannes Hertz, a pleasure clone left for dead at Lord Gabriel Blackwood's ranch. The grateful Ohannes offered the pair a place to hide and refresh themselves, and the trio became intimately acquainted.
Iker and Peregrine hope to get Ohannes to the safety of the monastery before they return to company headquarters for their new assignment, but their mission is interrupted by a group of randy renegade soldiers under the command of the rogue general Darden Bissette.
Finn Storm is an amphibious pleasure clone created by Bissette to fulfill his merman fantasies. Finn is full of surprises and Ohannes swiftly falls under the seductive siren's spell.

Snippet

The first 10 sentences.

Okay, it's eleven.

I know you frequent flyers will have a strange feeling of Deja Vu when reading this.

Ohannes Herod Hertz was disconsolate about having to leave the only home he had ever known. The young pleasure clone insisted on looking through his master’s bedroom for a memento.

“Son, we really don’t have time,” roughneck foreman Iker Mehmûd Macauley insisted. “The military or the Pingucury could come through here at any minute. We need to get moving early if we’re to have any hope of getting to the monastery by nightfall.”

“Let him see if he can find a little something to take with him, Ike,” Peregrine Cenric Varga countered. “The poor kid is losing everything he’s ever known. Let’s make it quick, though, Ohannes. The Pingucury usually attack at night, but they’re unpredictable. The military is supposed to protect civilians, but there’s a lot of corruption in the ranks. I’d prefer to avoid the lot of them.”

And now, the rest of the chapter.

Content warning for explicit erotica in the end paragraph.

Yeah, I know, we're all adults, and given the nature of this blog, you should probably expect this sort of thing from time to time. But as a former medical professional, I adhere to the CYA Policy and, thus, am issuing a warning to those who may be shocked by a smutty paragraph from an author who publishes smut.

“I’ll hurry,” Ohannes promised. “I just want to see if I can find some jewelry and maybe a shirt or a jacket, just a memento to remind me of Master Blackwood and connect me to him so I’ll see him again someday.”

“I hope this kid’s romantic notions don’t wind us up in a pack of trouble,” Iker muttered to Peregrine as Ohannes searched through his master’s opulent suite for keepsakes. “Do you think his master had real feelings for him? You looked at the roster. Blackwood had thirteen pretty clone boys to serve the desires of himself and his guests. He passed Skinny around like a party favor. I think he might have been proud of his sexy little investment, but I doubt they had a soul bond. Boy’s fooling himself if he believes that.”

“Ohannes is certainly naïve, but we don’t know what kind of bond he had with Blackwood. He might have been the old boy’s numero uno.”

“I know that Pretty Boy wants to rescue Blackwood, and I hope the monks can talk him out of it.”

Iker peeked into the suite. Ohannes was putting on a pair of black stone earrings shaped like stars. The willowy young man ran his finger over a pair of glimmering golden cufflinks. A black stone carved in the shape of a letter G adorned one cufflink and a letter B adorned the other.

“Put ‘em in your carrying bag and let’s scat,” Iker commanded. “We ain’t got all day to traipse down memory lane, Babycakes.”

“What was Master Blackwood’s first name?” Peregrine inquired as the trio exited the suite, Ohannes turning back for a last wistful look.

“Gabriel,” Ohannes replied. “When the other fellows and I were serving guests at a party, he was always Master Blackwood, but when we were alone together, he asked me to call him Gabe. He was always gentle with me. Even when he whipped me, he was careful not to really hurt me. I liked being spanked with the riding crop before he fucked me in front of his guests. I loved feeling his thick cock pounding my ass while I watched the partygoers jerking off.”

WIP Wednesday: For the Oceans Sample

Free-use image by Reimund Bertrams on Pixabay

For the Oceans

I

Daniel Clifford’s smile was euphoric as he emerged from the warm Cerenarian Sea onto the small, rocky atoll marking the spot where the waters of the Cerenarian Sea and the Twilight Sea met. He was happy to leave London and his troubles behind. He hoped to find the beautiful sirens whom he met as his body dozed in his childhood bedroom while his mother and sister argued, his brother-in-law tried to play peacemaker, and his poor, befuddled father was caught in the middle of the maelstrom.

“Lovely maidens of the sea, thy bonny Prince Daniel has returned to thee,” Daniel called to the waves. “I’m here, my darlings, here ready to serve at your pleasure.”

Daniel watched as something swam towards the atoll. His heart fluttered in anticipation. He had been near to knowing bliss at the talented hands of the lovely mermaids. He smiled and ran his hands through his honey-colored locks, hoping to appear more the suave swain than the overeager thirty-three-year-old virgin bubbling over with anticipation at the prospect of finally ending his virginity with the assistance of the delightful denizens of the deep.

“Here I am, me darlings,” Daniel cried, holding out his arms. “I told you I’d be back. Now, how about we pick up where we…crikey!”

Instead of a seductive siren, Daniel found himself looking into the unblinking gray-green eyes and fishy face of a Deep One hybrid. This Deep One was known to Daniel. Her name was Eleanor Varela. She had once owned Ellie’s Rag Bin, a Crouch End consignment shop that Daniel’s sister Amber and his cousin Alice frequented. She was a delightful soul who enjoyed providing gratis culinary creations to her clientele.

Daniel had been sad when Eleanor’s transformation became complete three years ago and she returned to the sea. He missed taking tea with her, his cousin Donovan, and his brothers-in-law, Vance and Tamar, while Alice and Amber went wild, outfitting themselves with unique finery. Although Eleanor was eighty-seven years old, she had a spry spirit and was always able to coax joy from the depths of Daniel’s brooding soul.

“I take it ‘twas not a venerable fish-woman that ye were expecting, Danny me boy,” Eleanor teased as Daniel threw his arms around her.

“It wasn’t, Eleanor, but I’m so happy to see you. I’ve missed you awfully.”

“I’ve missed you too, Dan. I treasure the moments I spent with you and your family. I am so very saddened to hear of your father’s illness. I watched him and your Uncle Paul growing up together, thick as thieves always. I comforted your aunt Lotus as she struggled to understand why that terrible man robbed her of her innocence and, I hope, I helped your Uncle Kane to embrace who he is. Your family is dear to me, and I hope I can aid you now.”

Acknowledgments

Earth’s Dreamlands, its various locations, including the Cerenarian Sea and the Twilight Sea, and the Deep Ones are the creations of H.P. Lovecraft, appearing in several of his works.

Insecure Writers Support Group 3 March 2021

https://www.insecurewriterssupportgroup.com/
March 3 question - Everyone has a favorite genre or genres to write. But what about your reading preferences? Do you read widely or only within the genre(s) you create stories for? What motivates your reading choice?
I read a lot less horror than I used to. I've read all of Edgar Allan Poe and H.P. Lovecraft's works, but I return to them for reference. I've also read many of Stephen King's works, and he is my third major influence. I don't limit myself to one specific genre. I do book reviews for onlinebookclub.org and I tend to read what they offer.
I suppose that the genre I write (outside of the m/m erotica shorts) could be classified as horror, but I tend to think of it as fantasy/paranormal with some sci-fi mixed in. There are certainly horror elements. Mormo, for instance, is a vampire of otherworldly origin. She was one of Lovecraft's creations, and I borrowed her and expanded on her, always giving credit where credit is most certainly due.
Edgar Allan Poe was the godfather of the modern horror genre. While he and Ambrose Bierce influenced Lovecraft, so did writers such as Lord Dunsany, whose works were more fantasy than horror. Lovecraft wrote steampunk before steampunk was a genre. My writing tends to lack the steampunk element although it has a strong Lovecraftian influence.
Anyway, that's what I have to say about that. I am sitting here wishing that I didn't have to go to my podiatry appointment tomorrow, but I've already put it off three times. Talk about horror--one look at my feet would give a foot fetishist nightmares.
I won't write more about my feet. Just trust me when I say that they are not a thing of beauty.

Sierra's New Book and How Negativity from Parents & Educators Affects Creativity

The following is a response to a post by Sierra Brave.

You can help Sierra choose the title for her forthcoming book. My choices are "Taming Goldie" or "Locking Down Goldie."

https://sierrabrave.rocks/2021/02/24/spoiled-or-scared-wipwed-mfrwhooks/

Educators and parents can have a tremendous effect on a person's confidence in their creative abilities. My mother always belittled my artistic talents and, consequently, I have no confidence in my ability to create art.

My sixth-grade teacher was a nasty man who should have been nowhere near kids or adults. His attitudes probably would have reduced a pack of wild dogs to quivering jelly. He insisted that we create outlines for our stories and follow them--but if we followed them too closely, he'd know we wrote the story first and fail us. To this day, I absolutely cannot work from an outline for creative projects. I actually start shaking and feeling sick.

I was normally a quiet, well-behaved kid, but I despised my sixth-grade teacher with a fiery passion. One day when no-one was looking, I locked his file cabinet and tossed the keys behind his desk. When he tried to get into the cabinet, he was furious. He demanded to know who locked the cabinet. Nobody said anything, and no-one would have suspected me.

I suppose in the long run it's a good thing he found the keys because things could have gone worse. There were times when he was physically abusive with some of the boys.

There was one time that I was very sick with strep throat and was out of school for three weeks. When I returned he berated me in front of the class, shouting "Just what are you trying to pull?" I almost gave up on writing for good because of this asshole. However, despite my depressive tendencies and low self-esteem, I've always had a powerful survival instinct and maybe just plain orneriness. I decided that I wasn't going to let him get the better of me. I kept writing.

Still, it's forty-four years since I was in the sixth grade, and to this day I still get physically sick at the idea of using an outline when writing stories.

Cloned Heat II: Mementos #MFRWHooks #RainbowSnippets #SnipSun #8Sunday

Snippet

NotesI started out strong visiting blog hops this week but fell off track because I was working on a new Cloned Heat installment inspired by one of the Reedsy prompts. I ended up creating a (relatively) clean segment for Reedsy, followed by an explicit double feature. Both are currently available only on LBRY. The story is out of chronological order and I can't say when it will be published on Amazon.
I'm excited about this story, except that now I still have to create Cloned Heat III for March publication. Agh!
Instead of featuring the entire first chapter from Cloned Heat II for the March MFRW Steam hop, I intend to share the entire first chapter from General Bissette's A.I.'s as a special surprise. This will annoy some, delight others, and the majority probably won't give a toss either way.

The banner was created on Pixlr with a free-use image by Gerd Altmann on Pixabay.
You can purchase the full, uncensored version of The A.I.s of General Bissette here for 30 LBC (approximately $0.60):http://bit.ly/AIsOfGenBLBRY
Or you can grab just the non-explicit portion of the story here for 15 LBC (approximately $0.45).http://bit.ly/SolServLBRY
Somebody stop me! In my next life, I need a brain that works sensibly.
