Flight of the Dragons Intro #MFRWHooks #8Sunday #SnipSun

Genre: Fantasy, Sci-Fi
Length: TBD
Heat Level: 0 Flames
BlurbPoverty and the threat of nuclear annihilation dominate his reality, so Simeon retreats to the world of his imagination where dragons fly free, bringing hope on leathery wings.
Snippet
Twelve-year-old Simeon Gorecki lived in the tiny prairie town of Ganatane, population 123 souls. Two years previously, he and his mother, Maria Iohannes, had moved to Ganatene from Minnerane, a large metropolitan area a hundred miles to the south. After Simeon’s father, Air Force Captain Ib Gorecki, disappeared during the Assault of the Scorching Lands four years ago, Maria became the family’s sole wage earner, working long hours as a nurse at the Clearwater Lake Clinic to pay the ever-increasing rental costs on the family’s modest townhome.
Maria was in poor health. Chemotherapy, radiation treatments, and operations to remove her breasts, reproductive system, and thyroid gland took a toll on her ability to perform the physically demanding job she’d held for many years. There were no rental relief programs even for individuals with severe disabilities. So, Maria took the money in the family’s savings account and found an old house in the Northeastern territories where she and Simeon could live without fear of their rent being raised.

Welcome to Pearl Beach Resort #MFRWAuthor #MFRWHooks #MFRWSteam #RainbowSnippets #8Sunday #SnipSun

Genre: Erotica (BDSM, m/m, m/f/f menage)
Length: 10,000 Words
Heat Level: Nuclear Blast (5 Flames)
Blurb
Candi knew hot things happened behind closed doors at the Pearl Beach Resort. After all, the place was owned by bisexual billionaire playboy Boris van Donk, who had a reputation for taking on all comers.
Candi's family of origin was strictly religious, and she has never given or received more than a chaste kiss in her 21 years. Between bad-boy Boris and her geeky, fun-loving, porn-writing housemates, an awakening of her desires is inevitable.
Snippet
Two women and a man, all hospitality workers in their early twenties, sat in a remote spot on the soft pink sands of Pearl Beach Resort. Travel guides described the tropical hideaway, located on Fire Isle, as a hidden gem in the Caribbean Sea, promising both relaxing days and exciting nightlife for adult pleasure seekers.
Fire Isle’s nearby sister, Moonlight Island, was home to Sunny Coast Hospitality College. Many of the school's graduates went on to manage luxury hotels in major cities all over the world. Some graduates opted to become employees at Pearl Beach Resort.
The college and the resort were both presided over by Boris van Donk, a Dutch billionaire whose reputed sexual excesses earned him the nickname “The Fucking Dutchman.”

I originally intended to submit the manuscript for this story to Cobblestone Press, but when I tried to do so, I received a delightful notice from a mailer daemon. I triple-checked the email address and it matched what was on their website. However, according to my top intel sources, Cobblestone Press went out of business a couple of years ago. (Thank you to Kayelle Allen for this information.) So I formatted the manuscript and published it myself.

A Christmas Celebration for Ziggy #8Sunday #MFRWHooks #RainbowSnippets #SnipSun

GenreSci-Fi, Dystopian
Heat Level0 Flames (Purely Platonic)
BlurbOn Christmas Eve 2051, a nineteen-year-old college student honors the final wishes of her best friend in a world devastated by biological warfare.
Snippet
It was December 24th, 2051, the end of the year when the Dangerously Stupid People killed off most human and animal life through biowarfare. At the beginning of December, there were approximately 1200 survivors who had congregated at the University of Colorado campus in Boulder. Twelve days ago, the dozen survivors that remained were looking forward to decorating the campus as a symbol of faith and hope for the future; now only one of the CU Twelve remained.
Today’s to-do list for nineteen-year-old Saraswati Alfarsi included burying her best friend and decorating the foliage near the University Theatre building on the Norlin Quadrangle. Sara, who was trying to decide between a career in the sciences or medicine, had recorded most of the deaths in her ledger with clinical detachment. Now she couldn’t stop the tears from flowing as she noted the details of the most recent decedent.

Merry Mittens snippet + Anthology Info #MFRWAuthor #MFRWHooks #8Sunday #RainbowSnippets #SnipSun

Hello, Hoppers. I'm featuring a snippet from Merry Mittens, the story I'm submitting for potential publication in the Magick and Mistletoe anthology from Dragon Soul Press. Following the snippet, I am including the info for this and forthcoming Dragon Soul Press anthologies into early 2024.
This is a family-friendly holiday story.
The Snippet
My family and I were serving Christmas Eve dinner at the Father William Kroger Community Center in Crouch End, as we did every year. I was carving my third chicken of the night and thinking that I should have elected to dish up the puddings rather than trying to show off how grown-up I was by carving the roast chickens. Still, it made me proud that my father trusted me with grown-up work, and I did my level best to make sure I broke the birds down into perfect portions to make the servers’ jobs easier.
I was being careful not to cut myself, but carving is a repetitive task, and my mind wandered. I have been told, sometimes jokingly and sometimes seriously, that I think too much. It’s funny, but I’ve also been told that I tend not to think things through before acting.
Story Notes
My protagonist is twelve-year-old Guinevere Ali. Her family and friends call her Gwen or Gwenny. I think I've managed to offer a nice snapshot of Gwenny's personality in the above snippet.
And now, as promised, here is the link for Dragon Soul Press anthology submission calls through January 2024. You can also find the submission guidelines on the Dragon Soul Press website.

#MFRWAuthor Update from the Naughty Netherworld

Hello Naughties. Earlier this month I made big promises about giving away entire ARCs for the first and second books in the Tales from the Dreamlands series. For those who were really looking forward to receiving these ARCs, I will make them available sometime this year, but I have decided not to give them away with the newsletter just now.
I am working on setting up my Book Funnel account. Hopefully, I can do so this month. I have three major author presences, and Book Funnel allows me to promote all three with their highest tier subscription. With Story Origin, I would have to create three separate accounts. Ay-yi-yi, what a pain in the posterior!
I still have to switch my subscriber list from Tiny Letter to Mailer Lite. I haven't done so yet because I (Lil DeVille, that is) have been busy working on my first draft for The Shape of Heat, an erotic novella featuring three twenty-something workers at the scandalous Pearl Beach Resort, located on the fictitious Fire Isle in the Caribbean. The good news is, I have been having a lot of fun writing this story.
The retooled newsletter will feature plenty of good stuff, including links to ARCs once I get them set up. I've read different things regarding what should be included in a newsletter. The fellow who runs Story Origin suggests that authors should offer an exclusive 10,000 word novella, saying that 10,000 words is neither too short or too long.
Personally, I like to make my novellas available to the public, so I don't think this is the right path for me. Some authors offer a chapter from one of their books. I think this is more my speed. I might also offer goodies such as a compendium of characters.
Another thing I will be offering going forward is a $5 Amazon gift card for a lucky recipient every month. I use Random.org to choose the winner. $5 isn't a lot, but it's what I can afford at this time.
I realized that I had once again bitten off more than I could chew when the time to post my link to Book Hooks rolled around and I said "screw it, I just can't." However, this realization was free of the guilt that usually accompanies such an epiphany--proof that sometimes you can teach an old dog new tricks.
I am currently reading a book called Hiding Behind a Window by an author using the pseudonym Laura Chill.
https://amzn.to/3OZ8957
I really recommend this book to anyone who, like me, may be dealing with the repercussions of their own past trauma, or simply for anyone who enjoys learning about what other people have been through. If you purchase a copy of the book through the above link, I will earn a small commission from Amazon.
That's all for now. I hope that nobody is terribly disappointed that receipt of the promised ARC is being put off. I hope to have everyone from the Tiny Letter list switched over to the Mailer Lite list within the month. I will announce the winner of the $5 gift card in the August 1 newsletter.

This fix-up novel continues where the first Tales from the Dreamlands left off. Our intrepid quartet of misfit heroes finds themselves in a kingdom ruled by anthropomorphic serpents.
King Rokon is sympathetic to the adventurers' plight. He introduces them to a new friend who can assist in their pursuit of the mysterious Wizard of Yaddith, who possesses the coveted Silver Key of Dreams.
What new dangers await the shade of an Undead Metalhead, two Cockney ghouls, a renegade member of the Great Race of Yith, and a young serpent mystic rescued from the lost world of Gnopru?
The answer awaits you in The Quest for the Wizard's Key. The book is due to be released in August, but you have a chance to obtain a free ARC! Details follow the snippet.
Snippet
“Revered Leader, we have visitors from the Third Dimension.”
The speaker was a great snake with flexible, boneless arms. He held a trident in one hand. His golden scales glittered under the red sun that baked the desert world of Zandanua.
“Indeed,” mused the mighty emerald-scaled anthropomorphic snake king seated on the colossal throne of red stone in the grand hall of Ajnevan Palace. “Were they sent by my brother, Yig?”
“They are renegades, Mighty One,” the guard explained. “They are searching for a key to assist in solving a quest given them by Nyarlathotep.”
“Why do they suppose that I would have this key?” King Rokon inquired.
“They do not believe that you have the key, Sire,” the guard clarified. “The Yithian brought them to this dimension in order to escape some sort of malevolent entity.”
“So, these are Yithians?”
“The one that led them through the gate from Lake Hali is a Yithian, my king.”
“Of what variety are these other visitors?”
“One is a human spirit and the other two are former humans transformed into ghouls.”
“Ghouls are a varied lot. The sorcerers that take themselves too seriously bore me. Send our guests in, Rffnss! They will provide a diversion from our battle with Nodens and Nira. Nyarlathotep is my brother’s sworn enemy. With his peers, there is honor among thieves. Trustworthy he is not for those who fawn at his feet, claws, or tentacles. The epithet ‘whom gods destroy they first make mad’ was inspired by Nyarlathotep.”
“His Royal Glory, the Splendid King Rokon, will receive you now,” Rffnss announced as he opened the throne room doors to admit a disparate conglomerate of vagabonds.
Hey, that's great! So, how do I get my ARC???
Patience, young Grasshoppah! All will be revealed. But I'm not done yet. You will receive the ARC for The Quest for the Wizard's Key in August...
Wait, what? Why do I have to wait until August?
Because this month I'm giving away the ARC for Ketil and Yitzy's Adventure in the Xura Dream House, the first book in the Tales from the Dreamlands series!
Blurb:
The fate of the Cosmos rests in the hands of an unlikely team of unusual friends. Will an exiled member of an ancient extraterrestrial race, a human ghost, and two ghouls be able to outfox an ancient evil and beat Nyarlathotep at his game before time runs out? This buddy story is the first in a series of New Cthulhu Mythos cliffhangers.

Then, in August, you will receive a complete ARC of The Quest For the Wizard's Key.
Just a cotton pickin' minute, you deranged scribe! What's the catch? Nobody gives away entire ARCs for free!
You clearly underestimated my level of derangement, Young Grasshoppah. I am so deranged that I terrify even the mighty Nyarlathotep. However, I am mostly harmless. There really is no catch. The ARCs are yours to keep forever simply for subscribing to Naughty Netherworld News. I do, however, have a favor to ask.
Aha, I knew there was a catch! So, what is the punishment for not agreeing to your so-called favor, you slimy Shoggoth?
There's no punishment at all. However, those who enjoy the stories can do me a big favor and leave an honest three-star or better review for the books on Amazon.
Okay, sure, I'd be glad to do that. But Amazon tends to remove reviews for items I didn't purchase from them.
I'm glad you mentioned that. All you need to do to stop the Review Police in their tracks is to begin your review with this sentence:
"I received an advance review copy for this book."
Great, I can do that! How do I get my ARCs again?
Just subscribe to Naughty Netherworld News right now!
https://bit.ly/NaughtyNetherworldNews2
If you're already subscribed, you don't need to do anything else. Your ARC will be in your hot little hands sometime on July 15.
Naughty Netherworld News usually comes out around the first of the month, but I wanted those people who haven't currently subscribed a chance to correct the error of their mistake.
What if I convince my friend to subscribe, but they have no taste and don't like the stories? Still, even though they have no taste, they're a nice person and don't want to leave a bad review. Are you going to send Nyarlathotep to kick their ass?
Nope. Your taste-impaired friend is under no obligation to leave a bad review. Neither Nyarlathotep nor I will be checking to see if everyone did their homework. The ARC is yours to keep whether or not you leave a review.
Cool! Give me the subscription link one more time!

Two women and a man, all in their early twenties, sat in a remote spot on the sands of Pearl Beach Resort. The resort was located on Fire Isle, a small body of land in the Caribbean sea, approximately 45 miles west of St. Lucia.
Twenty-one-year-old Candida Peters, known to her friends as Candi, was the baby of the trio. She was a sweet-faced young Caucasian woman with shoulder-length, cinnamon-colored hair and warm hazel eyes. Just five feet two inches tall, Candi lamented the seeming imbalance between her modest bust, curvy hips, and thick thighs. No matter how much she dieted and exercised, her lower half never became svelte enough for her liking.
NoteThere isn't room for explanation in this snippet, but I want to clarify that I see no fault in a body shaped like Candi's. Her insecurities echo those I had at her age. I developed an eating disorder at twelve which I still struggle with at almost 60 years old. All bodies are good bodies and I find it outrageous the way diet culture and advertising promote disordered eating.

“I think that this portal may lead back to your world via the Dreamlands, Ketil,” the creature revealed. “From my understanding of the sigils surrounding the gate, this passage terminates in Xura. If you're already a subscriber, you don't need to do anything else. Hopefully, everything will proceed without a hitch. I am switching from Tiny Letter to Mailer Lite.
There is just one thing I want to know.
How does Grammarly think that "TinyLetter" looks a damn thing like "Donald?" There are only two letters in common.

I'm working to set up my Story Origin and Book Funnel accounts. I keep hearing conflicting information from people about the effectiveness of newsletters. Some say they have several solar systems worth of subscribers and newsletters are the best thing since sliced bread. Others say newsletters don't do much for them. Personally, I've found them to be a bust, but I'm going to try to give it a fair shake.
Maybe Donald Duck will subscribe to my newsletter. He's a smart guy who knows a good story when he reads one.
I've always wished I had the money to hire someone to handle my social media accounts and promotions. If I did, you'd all probably think this was me, the young, artsy, mysterious, hip Lady Writer.

I've never been any good at pretending to be something I'm not, though. The reality is much closer to this:

Anyway, sign up for my newsletter. It's a work in progress.
I'm really glad my writing is better than my promotional abilities, though. I flat-out suck at promotion, no lie.
