#ColdCOURAGE: Shackleton’s Endurance is found in the depths of the Weddell Sea.

107 years ago, the ship of legendary Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton, the Endurance, was crushed by the ice pack and went down in the Weddell Sea. On the 100th anniversary of the "Boss's" burial, she was found, and surely one of the finest maritime archaeological discoveries in history.

Impeccably preserved at a depth of 10,000 feet on the seabed far below where she went down in 1915. She had been icebound, crushed, and the 28-man crew left stranded on the icepack - it was the start of one ...

Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence

This classic and yet largely unknown film starred legend David Bowie and a stellar cast of characters. It tells the story of war, of enemies turned friends through fascination and respect. It tells of the struggles between otherwise adversaries, yet highlights the needlessness of war.

In 1942, Captain Yonoi (Sakamoto) is the commander of a POW camp in Japanese-occupied Java. His only source of connection to the prisoners is the empathetic Lt. Col. John Lawrence (Conti), the only inmate fluent in...

Art (and Music) that makes you think

As a child, I listened to H.G. Wells War of the Worlds and how aliens were taking over - a story that when it was first released in 1897 created panic in fear of the machines. My bedroom was adorned with posters, of Sid Vicious, Blondie, listening to Never Mind The Bollocks, Pink Floyd, The Wall, and the latest tunes on the radio courtesy of John Peel. My first single Bohemian Rhapsody and the demise of a young boy killing a man, and the Boomtown Rats rattling out I Don't Like Mondays with its c...

LEGEND: The Krays: The Pig & Whistle

Although the Kray brothers were not role models for most, the film Legend tells the story of these two charismatic and violent characters that ruled London in the 1950s and 1960s and their legacy lives on to today. The 2015 film, Legend, tells the story like never before including this iconic scene in the Pig & Whistle, London.

Here's the scene and the original script:

We The People: Are you ready for the Truth?

We're truly in a different age. Never since the 1930s has such a situation of uncertainty prevailed around the world. Navigating reality and sifting the truth from fiction has never been so complex. This is the new era of misinformation.

Are you ready for the Truth? I am.

Almost everywhere you look today, across all continents, there are issues with distilling the truth from often and mostly deliberately laid down propaganda.

The United States is a country divided by those fuelling division and ...

The Anatomy of Slang: Ping Pong Tiddly down the Nuclear Sub

Nowadays, my Friday afternoons are often spent with a good old friend, and invariably (thanks to Google) any dubious statements made have to be fact-checked and verified, right there, on the spot. Yesterday was no different.

We started off with the old saying, "Spectacles, Testicles, Wallet and Watch" a reference to all you need to go on an adventure but also a mimic of the Christian practice of motioning the Sign of the Cross. The average speed of an African Swift was another. The origins of Po...

No one ever said it was going to be easy!

There is no animal that knows the saying better, "no one ever said it was going to be easy" than the lone stag. As we all stand on the precipice of our own survival, these words are an important leveler for us all.

The truth is, that nothing is easy. And anything easy may even be not be worth having at all!

A writers journey is hard. Like the best and most famous artists over the centuries, do it for yourself, first and foremost. If you have a story to tell (which we all do), then tell it. If ...

That's Entertainment: Morrisey (written by Paul Weller)

Whether The Jam, the grand maestro, and legend, Paul Weller, the author and originator of this awesome song, or the poet laureate of our time, Morrissey, this is an amazing tune that tells the story of what it was like growing up in the UK during those turbulent times. As Morrisey once said, "Life is hard enough when you belong here" along with so many other pertinent lines from the times.

Weller and Morrisey, both legends of our time.

"A police car and a screaming sirenA pneumatic drill and ri...
