What Sobriety Taught Me About Alcohol
Published in The Ascent

Time is relative. Sober time is not.
This is the most startling thing I found about sobriety. I will be at a social event, or just hanging around the house at night, look down at my phone and think,
“Holy shit, it is only 8:30?”
So, I will distract myself, eat something, take a shower, draw a self-portrait, clip my toe-nails, then look down at my watch and think,
“Holy shit, it’s only 8:35?”
No one told me this. Everyone s...

The Consequence of Owning an Amazon Echo
*story and picture for day 2 of my 1-a-day May challenge.
My Mother’s house is like an episode of Seinfeld where all of the characters are Kramer. Friends and family come and go and come and go.
We may never know who was responsible.
My brother and I had bought our mother an Amazon Echo Plus for her birthday. She loved it. Her favorite feature was the ‘Grocery List.’
The other day when she sat down with a pen and paper and called out: “Alexa! Read me my Grocery List,” this is what I heard fr...

Social Media 1-a-day May Challenge
There is an old Buddhist saying:
“Challenging yourself is challenging.”
Or maybe not.
Either way, I find it challenging.
Some other things I find challenging are:
1. Motivating myself to write consistent content 2. Thinking of interesting stuff to post on social media 3. Eating mangos in polite companyThe third one is still a mystery, but for the month of May, I have decided to focus on the first two. By simply challenging myself to:
Post one new thing each day on each of my Social Media ac...

Opportunity for Artists [Paid Collaboration]
Hi Internet People,
I am a writer looking for an artist and no one on Tinder seemed to think that was the appropriate platform for that sort of collaboration. So, here we are.
Each month this year I am looking to collaborate with artists of all different mediums and styles on a project. I have a large body of work to pull from, but I am also interested in starting new projects from scratch. I am open to all sorts of ideas.
These projects will be made for my Patreon Page. You can check it out...

Amazon Alexa, My Girlfriend, and I are in a Love Triangle
Y is always right. If she said the world will be hit by a meteor tomorrow and I opened my fat mouth, we’d all be doomed. Even when I am 100% certain she is wrong, the world seems to tilt a little and, when I regain my balance, she’s right again.
She is Russian. Her last name is pronounced,
“Pee-Yah-T-Nit-Skaya.”
You can imagine how she and Alexa might have gotten off on the wrong foot when...

3 Times I Tried to Find my Girlfriend’s G-Spot
A new short humor essay has been published in P.S. I Love You (if your weekend is missing a laugh:
[image error]Photo by Jean-Frederic Fortier on UnsplashI am not a doctor. I am not a medical professional of any kind.
I know this now.
It amazes me that, in this day and age, there was no map, no app, no Amazon deal of the day to help me find my girlfriend’s G-spot. Not that it mattered to her. She insisted she was perfectly happy with our sex life, but I’d gotten it into my head.
(I must have read about i...
