Why does the week before you go on holiday always go so slowly? It seems I've been prepared for Europe for ages, and I have! Like one of those old Continent travelers, I booked my tickets three months ago, got a visa well in advance and have spent the last month booking trains and planes and airbnbs between countries. I even have a running list I'm adding to. This sort of adds to the fun, remember the days when "going abroad" was such a big deal? And now people do it a few times a year! I like my lists and I guess I also like the week before I travel because that's when I dream of all the wonderful things that might happen. Party Girls Die In Pearls is a murder mystery set in Oxford in the 1980s and is so delicious with its Englishisms and descriptions of student life which all sounds very fancy and posh. Very much enjoying Ruskin Bond's autobiography Lone Fox Dancing (not to be confused with his reading memoir or his essays about his father, also out recently).
