After a very social weekend, this week is completely empty (so far) so indulge my third #whatiworetoday post in a row knowing that you probably won't get any more from me for a little while. Also I've been channeling creativity into clothes instead of painting or poetry, but who says how you style yourself can't be an expression of artistic aesthetic as well? Wore this to a party on Saturday, a very simple black dress, but the joy was the structure of it. I bought it at an export surplus stall in East Delhi and it's apparently athletic wear, so there's a lot of lycra panels which work to hold shit up and keep shit down and so on. My scarf turban is from Sarojini Nagar and is patterned with little brown whippets. Wore a red trench coat on top and felt like Carmen Sandiego. #littleblackdress #streetshopping

I'm posting about frivolous things like this dress I had made out of a sari. I'm not done being angry and raging, but I am pausing for a second. I want to also have some joy because otherwise I will go (and this is not hyperbole) slightly mad. I don't know. I wanted to show you my dress, I had it made year before last, but could never find an occasion fancy enough for it, and then it stopped being silk season. And then I wore it to @pragyatiwari's bachelorette party and so the seal was broken off it and last night I was asked for a fancy fashion show and silk season is nearly over again so I wore it even though I might have been a tad overdressed. It's like a ball gown and behind all that silk my heart goes "inqilab zindabad" over and over again. #whatiworetoday

A lunch event that specified traditional Indian wear seemed obviously to me a perfect time to wear my new ao dai, the Vietnamese national dress, that my dad just sent me. It's sort of like a salwar kameez except with a high collar and a sexier tighter fit than the usual seen here. Plus no dupatta so I'm just flaunting it all. #whatiworetoday #aodai

Winter is almost over so my fashion posts return! (I might be the only person in Delhi rejoicing about the upcoming Big Hot.) Anyway, this dress represents my Ultimate Sarojini Triumph. I mean it, guys, I have dined out on stories about this dress, I have used it as an example of what amazing finds there are to be had. Are you ready? This is a vintage crushed velvet... Oscar de la Renta. I bought it several years ago, but it no longer buttons up around the *ahem* chest area. There are worse places to gain weight, but it's just so damn inconvenient when your dresses are SO CLOSE to zipping up/buttoning and no longer do. Reluctant to resign it to the "I once wore this when I was young and thin" pile, I decided to put on a black slip and just wear the dress on top, unbuttoned, like a jacket with a skirt. My hair is very big just now so have put on red sneakers and hoop earrings and feeling very Cyndie Lauper which is ideal for karaoke night tonight. #whatiworetoday #streetshopping #reuse #oscardelarenta

Today in procrastination. Turning this notebook into a portrait gallery with text on the side. This is water colour, so less rich than my usual acrylic, but I have two more charcoal sketches to turn into paintings. My goal is to fill up the entire notebook with pictures and short writing. #painting #portrait #shorts

Was craving a desi pizza with a side of desi politics. This is as old school as it gets, pizza the way my mother made for me: Harvest Gold white bread base, tomato puree sauce, Amul pizza cheese and mushroom topping. Is it gourmet? It is not. Is it delicious? Damn straight. Maybe it's too late to share my voting poem with you because now it's not like TOPICAL but here, have it anyway. More Instagram poetry! Which is just words with random line breaks! Whee! (no no, I'm secretly very proud which is why I'm sharing so you'll say nice things also) #voting #democracy #poetry

It felt like a painting sort of morning. Have hidden a bit of a Carol Ann Duffy poem in this picture. Orange tabby cat in memory of my TC. "Somewhere on the other side of this wide night, and the distance between us, I am thinking of you." #mementomori #carolannduffy #painting

My first time at Sunder Nursery since the renovation and subsequent revival and now, stuck in hellish traffic, I can't stop thinking about that table, that swing, that book I will read in the sun when the light is just right. #parksofdelhi

We are all enjoying sitting out on the balcony as the winter recedes but it does have a tendency to turn some of us into basket cases. #squishythecat #catstagram #catsofdelhi #housepanther #adoptdontshop
