Ahhh the weather is a little warmer and my wedding winter wear got to be out in full display last night for the #pravi reception (and all night after party, oof my aching head) Wearing a velvet kurta with brocade pants that I love so much I'm going to pair them with a t-shirt when it's warm again. But really, the star of the show was my mother's phulkari shawl which I wore over my coat to hide it and also to add a pop of colour. Wedding season is exhausting but if it's one of your besties getting married it's also amazing. I felt so much joy, I think it came out on my clothes! Now back to regular programming.

I want to do a lot more painting in 2020 (but for fun. I need something to do that I love that doesn't make me think of money. A hobby.) I got acrylic paints as part of a birthday present and have really been enjoying working with them, especially mixing colours and how bright everything stays, even after it dries. My friend had a birthday yesterday so I painted him a picture of his favourite animal: the dog; and chose a Mary Oliver poem (who I am currently reading) as the text. It looks recognisably doggy, don't you think? #painting #dogstagram #maryoliver

For yesterday's #pravi wedding ceremony, I decided to wear a sari which meant I had to layer and accessorise so I could still look reasonably stylish while also being as warm as toast. So, in case you need similar tips: underneath, I'm wearing fleece tights and a petticoat, on top there's a black body suit, the orange blouse and a deep necked black pullover, which meant you could sort of see the blouse through the pallu. Since I wanted to wear my red leather jacket on top, I wore my pallu like this and added a fanny pack to double as a belt. This is an ancient kanjivaram raided from my grandmother's cupboard, about 70 years old. When the silks first became popular outside Tamil Nadu, they only did limited colours so my great aunts all have some version of this too. Despite her great age, the sari still has plenty of life in her yet and did indeed keep me as warm as toast while also attracting the compliments which were her due. (if old cars can be women, why not old clothes with plenty of history in them too?) #whatiworetoday

I know this is not a great photo of me (what is this pose? This face? And my kurta looked more flattering, I promise) but my mother took it and I was in a hurry and also she asked why I wasn't combing my hair, that eternal question asked by mothers to their curly headed children across generations. ANYHOW. I still wanted to show you my gorgeous kurta which I really just acquired to show off the dupatta which is Benarasi silk and was given to me during my cousin's wedding several years ago and which I am now wearing to the #pravi nuptials, a wedding that is filling me with joy and delight but also oof, how much I partied in these inadequate clothes, I was like a block of ice when I fell into bed several hours later. So old, so worth it. #whatiworetoday

Yesterday was my birthday and as always, I was too busy having a good time to take photos. But I did manage to get one nice picture of my new dress! It was Friday the 13th, so I told everyone to channel their inner witch and I guess mine is kind of tulle and gothy? I love this dress (from Zara for a change, not Sarojini or tailored) so much though. Wearing with heavy duty fleece leggings and a blazer over a shrug so I was toasty warm and still sexy. Highly recommend getting one new outfit for your birthday every year, I call them my Birthday Dresses and they're all special. #whatiworetoday #birthday
