Today instead of our usual Vinayak, we decided to branch out a little for our lunch time fish thaali to Goan Spice, a place that's always packed with the wrong sort of tourists (loud, rude) so we've avoided in the past. However today it was relatively empty and so we had a lovely thaali each, whole rava fried pomfret, lovely spicy curry and mussles and things on the side. V good. Will add to our roster. Just taking a break from furiously writing to furiously reading. Part of my second hand haul, I've been looking forward to Love, Nina since I first heard of it ages ago. It's letters from Nina Stibbe to her sister, Victoria, while Nina works as a nanny at a posh literary London home in the 80s. Reminded me of another beloved set of diaries I adore: Jilly Cooper's The Common Years. Love, Nina is also a TV show now so I look forward to watching once I'm done reading. What a perfect birthday I had. From the lead up party to the lovely dinner last night and today, at Broadway, a huge well stocked second hand bookstore where I spent a good two hours collecting this pile, and K offered to treat me to them all. Almost hid the Marian Keyes so you wouldn't notice my plebeian tastes, but hey, she's a great writer and I'm now 35, too old to pretend to only read "high literature." now in bed with Charlie Brooker's book of rants, followed by Japanese for dinner. Grocery shopping in Mapusa today for my birthday party tomorrow. We're making everything from scratch, except the gin and tequila I guess, but when all the booze we're buying is from small local breweries, it's practically homemade, she says smugly.
