Love, pain, memories.
Hi everyone, it’s Thursday which means I just got back from the writing workshop. Our latest writing prompt was to write down three things we carry in our heart. I chose Love, Pain, and Memories. Of those three things, we were supposed to select one and write about it. Ten minutes on the timer, and this is what I came up with…
I carry you wherever I go,
in my head and in my heart.
You serve as a cruel reminder that I will never be whole without you.
You stalk me,
prey on me,
and when I lea...

Stranger in the dark
I wrote this a while back. It was inspired by a post I saw on Facebook where a member of a writing group was trying to piece together an idea for a story: Her MC discovered someone else’s photos on the table in her apartment… Upon reading the member’s post, I wrote this on the fly.
Stranger in the Dark.
Your parents have left town for the weekend, you’re enjoying some well needed time to yourself. A storm rages outside while you’re preparing for your pre-sleep ritual which consists of Netfl...

Beyond the Limits of Our Imagination
I forgot I wrote two prompts last Thursday at the creative writing workshop. I didn’t share this one because, well, we had to interpret poetry and I am TERRIBLE at interpreting poetry. The prompt called for us to read, ‘The Summer Day’ and write our own interpretation of it. If we couldn’t write something along the same lines, we were allowed to take the following phrase and roll with it, “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” After fifteen long and painful...

My Scars,
I participated in my second writing workshop in Toronto today, and one of the writing prompts was taken from an excerpt about the appearance of scars. I had ten minutes on the timer, and this is what I wrote…
My Scars
Twisted, gnarled, hideous.
I hear their whispers.
They hiss and spit as they pass
my gruesome disfiguration.
I cringe as their words lash at me like whips,
I whimper as their words flay me like scalpels,
I cower in the corner consumed by darkness.
But I hear them,
I feel them,...

If I could, I would…
I participated in a creative writing workshop in Toronto today, and one of the writing prompts was called, “If I could, I would…” I had ten minutes on the timer, and this is what I wrote…
If I could, I would…
Wield swords made of castle-forged steel.
I would ride into glorious battle,
With my brothers and sisters beside me,
On the back of a Dragon.
Black membranous wings would block out the sun,
Casting my enemies into shadows and darkness.
Their screams of despair would be music to my ear...

When Does Being a Woman Become Easier?
I don’t usually post this sort of thing, but it’s been on my chest for a while… Eating at me for a while… So I must talk about it. Please don’t judge as I try to figure this one out.
When does being a woman become easier? Can anyone tell me? Because the thing is… I’ve been one for twenty-seven years (I’m twenty-seven years old), and from the very beginning, I’ve known I was different than everyone else… Even more so now.
I’m angry, and I’m depressed because I am a woman…? I feel like I h...
