Hua-ling Hu (née Wang) is known for her writing about the Japanese occupation of China. She has taught Chinese language and literature at the University of Colorado at Boulder, National Chiao Tung University, National Chung Hsin University, Tunghai University, University of Denver, and was consultant to Research Center of the Nanjing Massacre, Nanjing Normal University. She served for six years as an editor of the Journal of Studies of Japanese Aggression Against China. In 1998 she received the prestigious Chinese Literary and Arts Medal of Honor in Biography in Taiwan for her Chinese language edition of her biography of Minnie Vautrin.
She married her husband Chia-Lun Hu in 1965.

She has also published under the name Hu Hualing zhu.
