Launch

Well, its finally done. The Curse of the Skyfolk has been released. Four years after inception, the first book in the Rogue War Saga is now available on amazon, worldwide. I wont pretend that I'm not ridiculously excited right now. I can't stop chasing my dog around the living room. I think it's nervous energy.

This is the first time that I've ever launched a novel before and I've discovered that the process comes with a certain level of anxiety. It's a strange concept, trying to get my head around the fact that this world I've created and these characters I hold so dear are now so suddenly exposed to the scrutiny of the entire world (at least to anyone who finds their way to the novel anyway). I've decided to take my girlfriend's advice and try and remain Zen about the entire thing. The truth is, if this novel elicits a smile from even one reader somewhere out there, then I'll feel like the process has been a success.

After all, I didn't write Curse because I had dreams of becoming a well known or successful author. I wrote it because I find writing cathartic and the ideas seemed so awesome in my head it felt a shame to keep them all to myself.

For those that don't know, I'm an archaeologist by trade and a historian by desire and I have heavily incorporated these themes into the building of both the story and world. Some might find the setting analogous with Nazi occupied Europe, although the technological level more closely resembles the typical medieval setting.

As an archaeologist I have spent a lot of time researching human evolution over my short career and I have always wanted to play with this theme in a fantasy setting. Curse allowed me this opportunity. I won't give too much away, but suffice to say the evolution of the various species that inhabit the world of Roon hasn't all been fueled by natural selection.

Right, I know from reading a zillion blogs from other authors that I should keep writing and give more of an insight into the process and the world etc etc, but I'm too excited to concentrate on writing this blog right now, so I'll get to those things in the near future. I promise! Besides, my dog is giving me that *why aren't you chasing me around the living room* look and I feel bad leaving him hanging.

So I'll say goodbye for now and thank you so much for reading!
