The Detroit Grizzlies are back and ready to end the plague that has been killing humans and shifters alike. TAMING HER MATE was born March 19, and I couldn’t be prouder. This is a really great book and I hope you feel as excited about it as I do, because this book…well, it was born of something really amazing. Guess what it was…

A. A contract. I’m a working writer. If I don’t write, I don’t pay my bills. The amazing part? Just that. I write the weird things in my head, and I get paid. Which means I get paid for what I love doing the most in the world. Pretty cool, huh?

B. Bad seafood. I ate something not so fresh at a restaurant, and while I was bowing to the porcelain altar, I thought, what if I’m changing into a shifter right now? I mean, look in the mirror. I could be a mangy bear. What if shifting worked really well for some and not so well for others? Would I survive? (I decided probably not, so it would be best if my heroes and heroines saved everyone, including me.)

C. A bad shifter book. Yes, we’ve all read bad books, but the glory of being a writer is that when I read something crappy, I think of how I would make it better. In fact, I think I could make it spectacular! So I wrote my own amazing series and called it Grizzlies Gone Wild!

D. I woke up one day and the idea was there with my first breath thanks to the Muse! How it came to me, why it came to me, I have no idea. Hear me now: we do not question the Muse! We simply write what the muse brings and say, Thank you!

E. Pure love. Life is way too short to spend time on something I don’t love, and I love writing shifter stories. I like the balance between animal and man. I love the raw passion and the tempered humanity. I love the extra power these guys and gals have. I just love writing these books. And that’s the greatest rocket fuel there is for my work. Taming Her Mate + Year of the GRIZZLY!

What do a bear and a wolf eat on their one free night?

When I saw that Fresh Fiction had recipes up for Valentine’s Day, I had to laugh. The hero and heroine of my new novel, Taming Her Mate , Frankie and Ryan, are busy people! They’re saving Detroit from a deadly virus and keeping their respective shifter packs from going to war with each other. Their meals reflect their busy lifestyles. Inspired by the delicious recipes shared last week, I knew whatever my characters would cook would be interesting…

For example, Frankie is the daughter of the alpha wolf. She’s got to help out whenever life gets too busy for anyone in the pack. That means comfort foods that are easy to remember and that picky pups will eat. She makes the simplest meatloaf recipe she can remember with ingredients on hand and while it’s in the oven, she whips up a box of Macaroni and Cheese. And now here’s the cool secret: ketchup and brown sugar. The original recipe called for a modest amount of both, but let’s face it, who doesn’t love ketchup and brown sugar? She mixes up enough of that to slather over the meatloaf, and then she pours the Mac and Cheese on top. The recipe calls for an extra five minutes in the oven, but no ever waits that long. This is comfort food extraordinaire! Even kids recovering from the flu perk up at that.

But what about the vegetables? asks the very healthy, very sexy cop Ryan Kennedy. Sure, he loves comfort food as much as the next shifter, but that won’t keep his body running while being attacked by deranged wolves. No, he’s got a quick recipe for getting all those yummy greens inside. All it takes is a bag of leafy greens available at any grocery store and a blender. He dumps the leaves in, adds water (or oat milk if he’s looking for a creamy substitute) and spins it down. Once the leaves are micro-sized, then he adds whatever fruit is on hand. Enough to make it taste good. Sure, it looks like pond scum but the taste—and the health benefits—are out of the world.

And for dessert? Duh. Bear claws!

But, enough about questionable food choices, I also wanted to say that this year is officially the year of the GRIZZLY! I know, I know, the lunar calendar says that 2019 is actually the year of the pig, but I ask you, when was the last time a pig- shifter had you thinking lustful thoughts? Sure, they’re a lot neater than you’d expect, but the way they drop their long snout into the food trough is a turn off for sure.

Which is why I’m declaring 2019 the Year of the Grizzly! Even better, I’ve decided it’s a fire year because of all that passion burning inside our big bear shifters! Grizzlies are loyal, passionate, and have great focus. Once they set their eyes on their love, nothing—not even a deadly virus—will keep them from securing their chosen mate. They’re known to be ferocious when facing trouble, but no matter how difficult the problems, they’ll use every resource at hand (er, at paw) to make sure their mate comes out safely, happily, and well sated.

A grizzly’s lucky number is two, but most are not opposed to three, four, or even five, especially when it comes to children. Their lucky day is March 19, the day that Taming Her Mate  was released out into the wild. And their lucky location is in the bathroom, especially when helping to bathe young cubs or treating their mate to some extra fun water play.

I cannot print their unlucky number because it’s the number of people who have died as a result of the Detroit flu and the horrible things it did to shifters. Even typing that number on my screen would bring about the wrath of the divine grizzly, and I will not do that. The grizzlies most unlucky location is the Detroit sewer. Sadly for Det. Ryan Kennedy, that’s where he is when the book opens and boy does he pay for that mistake.

Bad love matches for the Grizzly is an Ox, Snake, or Monkey, but the absolute best love is a Wolf.

Ever Hear of Rejection Therapy?

Guess what it is:

You eat lots of weird foods to find out what your body rejects most violently.
You say “no” to at least one person a day.
You go through your own closet and “reject” clothing by throwing it out. At least 28 pieces a day. Once there’s nothing left in your closet, you start on your things. It’s a quick way to a minimalist lifestyle.
You do something daily where you know you’ll get turned down. Eventually getting told “no” won’t scare you, and you can start living life boldly.

Answer: D – It is indeed a way to make yourself casual with being told “no.” The whole closet thing is a different technique where you discard 28 things a day for 10 days. It’s actually quite liberating, but that’s not where the idea for this book came from.

In Sliding Home by Kathy Lyons—August 13, 2018 Brazen release—my good girl heroine is putting herself through rejection therapy as a way to get bolder. She realized she’s become too timid in her life and this is her way of forcing herself to embrace life. Who Knew Detroit Could Be So Sexy?

There are lots of fun things to do in the Motor City. My favorites include things like NOT getting mugged and NOT witnessing a gang killing because that’s all I hear about in today’s news. City gone bankrupt. The terrors of 8 Mile. A whole lot of empty urban landscape ready for filming the newest zombie apocalypse movie. But Detroit still has a lot going on that’s fun. Guess which ones of the following are true.

 

A great big tire on I-95. It was a Ferris wheel at the 1964/5 New York World’s Fair, but now has tread where the gondolas used to be.
Motown Museum. A small shingle clad building where Motown’s unique sound was produced from 1957-1072. Any Marvin Gaye fans out there?
The crumbling ruins of

The Grande Ballroom, a place that once hosted jazz legends and psychedelic rock bands.
The Detroit Children’s Zoo. Don’t worry. There’s a new exciting one on the opposite side of Belle Isle, but the remains of this one are still visible.
Michigan’s Central Station – Hundreds of trains passed through there each day…once upon a time
The Heidleberg Project – One man’s attempt to bring beauty to an urban landscape by making abandoned buildings artistically exciting.


Secret groups of shifters live there, getting their animal on while saving the city one hot heroine at a time.

Guess What I’m Doing This Week! By Kathy Lyons / Jade Lee

So I’ve been doing some weird things this week. Guess what they are…

Running around the neighborhood yelling, “The Grizzlies are here! The Grizzlies are here!” Well, I’m just saying it now because the cops said I shouldn’t Okay, so maybe I’m whispering it, but that’s beside the point. The Grizzlies are here!
Are you kidding me? It’s too cold outside for me to be running around. I’m sitting in a hot sauna with a sexy shifter. We’re playing Simon Says…
Today is the day I get to feed an animal other than my cat Cinnamon. And look what kind of animals they are!
No wait! The GRIZZLIES GO WILD series continued this week! Yup, my wonderful grizzly bear shifter series has started up again. This time something strange is happening in Detroit and I’m…well, I’m really excited about it.

 

Answer: 4!  Yes, the new trilogy launched on Tuesday with Alpha Unleashed. Fresh Fiction has already reviewed it http://freshfiction.com/review.php?id=65098 and it is the best review of my career. So I’m pretty excited about that. As for the other options, it really is too cold for me to run around the neighborhood right now. And I wish, wish, wish that I got more sauna time somewhere, but I haven’t. I did feed a hippo and a giraffe as the pictures show, but that was back in December at the San Diego Safari Park and I loved it!

 

So now you’re probably thinking, what makes these grizzlies go wild? Are we talking naked pool parties? Beer bongs in the woods? What exactly makes them so much more wackadoodle than the average shifter? Well, there are lots of possible answers to that.

 

Have you met me? I’m wackadoodle. Anything that comes out of my head is going to be extra wild!
These grizzles have singing competitions with lumberjacks. The men sing, “I’m a lumberjack and I’m okay. The shifters sing, “I’m a grizzly bear and I’m okay. I eat the lumberjacks both night and day.” (If you don’t know the reference, check out the Monty Python video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZa26_esLBE)
These hot guys have been pushed to the breaking point and the animal is just too strong. Fortunately, there are some kick-ass women around willing to tame these bad boys or at least help them burn off some pent up energy in the most delightful of ways.
They enjoy Revolutionary War re-enactments. Yes, they play the British soldiers so people really do run down the road screaming, “The Grizzlies are Here! The Grizzlies are Here!”

 

Answer: 1 and 3 – Naturally anything I come up with will be fun and wild and my bears are no exception. But also, I have created a delightful series with guys struggling to keep it together. And yes, I pair them with women who help them get the upper hand on the bad guys and their personal wild natures.  As for the other options, well, I can only say that I have enjoyed Monty Python, lumberjacks, and reenactors at one time or another in my life. Who hasn’t?
