new book ten secrets of love 2016
NEW BOOK 10 Secrets of Love
"This book is sweet and magical and creates a pensive teardrop or a wistful smile while delivering your heart and soul into realms of attraction and allure and revealing the Ten Secrets of Love."
I open the new year, 2016, with my new book TEN SECRETS OF LOVE, and not only does this book contain stories of a variety of types of love but also I have included some of my idea illustrations for each section. It is not a massive gigantic huge month long read---more like a whisper each night before you go to bed of sweet slices of magic.
Each chapter is a fresh exploration, a journey into a new exotic realm where sometimes life is too real or maybe when you think it is so tangible or pedestrian the inexplicable appears like in some dream where water pours from the cracks in an ancient tree. Writing these pieces of "love" I delved down into myself and my life's past or maybe sometimes into my life's future to spin and contort and twist and dig and unearth all kinds of emotions I forgot about or was yet to discover. Sounds contradictory, maybe so, but then so is love.
The birds on the cover represent each different love that I discovered. A bird flies into your life in an instant, you look up and there he is, sitting on a branch right in front of you, all colorful and splendid with song and beauty--"love" is like this too. Some birds keep coming back each day, some birds you only see one time in your entire life. So, am I saying love is like birds? Or maybe birds represent love? Does love migrate with the seasons? Is this book about birds? Well, no, but love is about flight and secret gardens and unexpected encounters and beauty and song.
The Honey Bee Girl, my Amazon bestseller, is a love story. Montana Mist, my Amazon bestseller, is a love story. Ten Secrets of Love is an exploration into metaphors of love. I write Sci-Fi, Crow Canyon, and Fantasy, Cavern of the Eggstone, and Poetry, Lost Oasis and dark comedic thrillers, The Texas Sugar Pussy Kat Murders, and YA action adventure fantasy, The Midnight Jungle, but it seems love appeals to all people, no matter your age or occupation. We all have experienced love in some form in our lives. It is common and it is rare. Ten secrets, you ask me? Heck, there are probably 100 secrets, but that book is too long.
So i sat down many times and wrote these secrets into simple complex contraptions of words and emotions to touch you in some forgotten or yet to be experienced way. Hold my hand and take a short journey into a place that might make you smile or cry or remember but i know it will make you feel something familiar...something like the mystery of love.

Author's Night in Texas
Well, after an exhilarating 16 day safari in Australia I have returned to the blistering heat of the Texas Gulf Coast. SO i hardly go outside, instead i work on my art and write each day on my new novel, which has Komodo Dragons, pygmy elephants, and harpooned Devil Rays in the south Pacific ocean.
This month I guest lectured at the College of the Mainland's workshop and will guide the workshop in October.
I am also looking forward to a special Author's Night in Port O'Connor, Texas September 19 at The Sanctuary at Costa Grande. I will be bringing copies of my best selling novels, The Honey Bee Girl and Montana Mist, along with some of my other favorite books like Tropical Calypso.

Book Festivals
Armed with the Amazon bestsellers The Honey Bee Girl and Montana Mist, my other 18 books and loads of matted and framed Wildlife Art that I have painted through the last few years I attended the wonderful East Texas Book Festival in Tyler, Texas and then attended the 7th annual amazing Word Wrangler Book Festival in Giddings, Texas.
sales were good and hanging out with other amazing authors was great. The Most intriguing author was Taylor Stevens, author of The Innocent and The informationist, http://www.taylorstevensbooks.com/
What an interesting life she has lived!
Book Festivals are fabulous places to meet new readers and many different kinds of writers and of course, get new fans and readers involved in your writing journey!
My next Festival appearance is Artstoberfest in Galveston, Texas, which gets about 30,000 people attending that weekend! Should be a great experience!! Thanks everyone for reading and writing. Doug Hiser

That HIgh School Crush
WE all have that one High School Crush that stays with us our entire life. At odd moments we reflect back and wonder what kind of life they led, where it took them, and as Garth Brooks sings, "What's she doing now?"
That little distant grey memory that pops up at unusual times is what prompted me to write my bestseller from 2006 that keeps on enchanting the readers with it's story and true emotions, my little novel, THE HONEY BEE GIRL.
The young girl I based my story on never got to read my feelings from way back then when we were teenagers, since she passed away before I had a chance to tell her about the book. That was irony and closure, and sad and it hurt-just like so many thoughts of my past.
I remember how the first time i held her hand and the tingles that coursed thorugh my heart made me think i could fly. How could any feeling ever top this-this feeling of magic and sweet emotion?
The sad thing is that first hand that you hold with those new feelings is the last time you will feel those first flickering magic tingles, the next time they will be different and the memory of that first time will last your lifetime inside of you.
The magic of The Honey Bee Girl is the magic of young love, first kiss, that special way her eyes captivate you and lead you around like a little puppy dog starved for affection. It is the power of a grown man looking back over his youth and remembering those emotions and feelings that shaped his life. It is the power of truth. The Honey Bee Girl is a part of my life, my past and what shaped my future.

what prompted me to write Montana Mist?
An interviewer recently asked me this question: What prompted/inspired you to write Montana Mist?
Montana Mist (Winter of there White Wolf) was inspired by a dream and by some of the writings of John Steinbeck, not really inspired by any of his books but more of the mood of his characters. I traveled to Montana and fell in love with the forests and the mountains. I got to see and feel wolves up close. I began to learn more about how we had eliminated wolves from the lower 48 states and had just recently re-introduced them. I love quirky odd characters and populated my book with them. I wanted to have secrets and mystery, adventure and romance, all in the same story to drive the conflict. All that conflict set in such a beautiful harsh wintry amazing place of mountain forests, ice and snow, moose and elk, wolverines, bears, and the wonderful secretive rare wolf pack, roaming our imaginations since the dawn of man. A man guarding secrets, a woman traveling, searching but not knowing what she seeks, a beautiful blind girl hidden away in her own secluded world, and the missing white wolf, Mist, out there somewhere in the shadows of the mountain forests, all form integral parts in the book.

Finding time for writing-Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is here again-eating, shopping, watching football, and interacting with relatives. oh joy, could life be more exciting? Most of those are just "work" for me. Maybe that's strange but as an artist and a writer--my joys are painting and writing. I always think about how to find time for my writing and my art. It would have been simpler if I was only one of my three talents: Artist, Writer, Athlete. The athletics will slow down as I get older but the other two I hope to continue until I can't lift my hand and my eyes can no longer see.
The Thanksgiving Holidays hold promise for me to find some down time and also some art time. I'm pretty excited to jump at a chance to begin my new elephant herd painting. I also hope to get back to editing and rewriting my new finished novel, The Midnight Jungle.
After the Thanksgiving Holidays there will be only 3 weeks until Christmas Break and the re-launch of my most successful novel, The Honey Bee Girl. January follows and the new year 2011 will see my Brand NEW NOVEL, Montana Mist, publication Launch on AMAZON.com!!

Cool sentences
The launch date for my new novel, Montana Mist, has now been pushed back to allow for the publisher to finish up with their end of the work. New launch date, November 17th, 2010. Just a few more weeks longer but remember just in time for Christmas. I would hope people would like to give the gift of a Montana Mist for Christmas presents to the avid readers in the family! Don't all authors wish that for their (Books/Babies)?
The cover looks great and the interior is a larger font to help out those with not as perfect eyesight. I know as an avid reader myself I always like the font to be larger. Those books with the tiny print can give me a headache.
The book trailer for Montana Mist, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDLXoH...
has gotten rave responses and the director/Editor has also gotten great compliments and more assignments from her outstanding work. Awesome job, Christy!
I've taken a break from writing the last three months, after completing my other novels, The Midnight Jungle, The Texas Sugar Pussy Kat Murders, and now i have been concentrating on my artwork and writing poetry.
Many novelists got their start writing poetry and it is something I have always come back to, just for the sjheer joy of the short form and the beauty of the language. I will always remember my poetry professor at college said, "Doug, you have the gift of "cool" sentences."

reflection
AS I sit here, ready to leave the house and end up at my High School Reunion, I am having thoughts about all my classmates from those many long years ago. I won't remember or recognize so many of them, but i wish things were different and the years wouldn't exact such a toll on people, age and pain and just the strain of living and struggling in our chaotic multi-faceted world. I hope I come away from the night with new insights, wild stories that they will tell me. I have high hopes, like the Pink Floyd song, but the reality is I just hope somebody there finds me intresting enough to talk to me. I'll tell them about the 18 books I have written and all the experimental art and the hundreds of wildlife art pieces i have painted. I'll tell them how much i have changed since high school and the 80's, i'll tell them how i now find nature and love, precious. They might not care, they might just want to get drunk and forget the past. I don't really drink and maybe I'll just sit there and watch what happens. I'll go home and write more words and paint more art and then i'll dreams dreams about how i live in a jungle treehouse, above a clear pond with a cascading waterfall, macaws and monkeys chatter in the trees and i swim with fresh water dolphins.

The Reader/Author Connection
As i sit here after a few days as a guest author at the Texas Word Wrangler Festival, I reflect back to all of the authors out there, tapping away at keyboards-creating their own little worlds in the hope that a few other people are ready and willing to pick up those pages, those characters on a screen- and absorb them, read their way into that special world the author has created.
Sometimes I wish i weren't an author and a professional artist, not because i don't love it, i do, but because i could have TONS of free time reading MORE of the MANY books out there! There are so many books and not hardly enough time to explore all of them. Reading books takes a time commitment that many people in our hectic world just DO NOT Have.
When someone takes the time to READ one of my books..I am thankful and happy, appreciative and feel blessed, I know i gave to them special feelings and emotions through my pages that they will remember.
The same whem I sell a painting-i feel amazed that someone loves that image as much as I did to create it. We have both shared and are connected forever through my painting.
Nest month I hope all my readers come together to help me by grabbing their 1st copy of MONTANA MIST, my new novel.
