Afterlands: Beforetimes – A Forrest Review
I stumbled upon a wonderful short story collection by fellow author Boots—aka @NakedEchidna on Twitter. Paired with whimsical penny-weekly inspired illustrations, these tales weave together the prequels of an upcoming book series called Afterlands. These stories are titled: Beforetimes.

The Harrower is the first in the collection, featuring, of course: The Harrower. He is a sad creature, a bovine with the power of fire, and is unsure of himself. He has no pla...

A Forrest’s Ramblings #2
Things have been pretty quiet in the forest lately. Sorry about that. I’d been gearing up to get some intensive revising done on my Apothecary WIP, and was excited to shout about it, and then…life happened.
Mid to late October, I got a call from my landlord telling us he’s selling the house. Big shocker.
I’m serious, I had no idea. Didn’t expect it. Maybe it was denial, considering the state of things around the country. I just figured, maybe things wouldn’t change.
Even more of a su...

Movement & Tags in Dialogue
As a writer of fiction, dialogue in your story can be incredibly powerful. It can convey emotion, characterization, and of course, move along a narrative. But there is more to writing dialogue than the words being spoken. There is space between that can help you tell your story and engage your readers.

Squid Game – A Forrest Review

Everyone’s talking about this new Korean show on Netflix called Squid Game. I’ve seen it, and here I am talking about it. Some minor spoilers. Hope ya’ll enjoy.
There’s something about violence and horror that stirs something innately within us. That monstrous feeling that rises like bile when someone has horribly wronged us or someone we love, something unforgivable, fueled by fear, mixed and stirred with hate and rage. Horror can be about heroes, rising against evil. Or it can be about...
