Imbued – A Forrest Review

I’ve read Helyna Clove’s first book, Skylark in the Fog, and loved it. A science fiction/space opera, it’s quite different from Imbued. Clove’s range from that book to Imbued is frankly impressive, and I can’t wait to read more by this author.

About Helyna Clove:
Helyna L. Clove (she/they) is a science-fiction/fantasy novelist, and a lover of all types of storytelling, hot comfort drinks, and a universe full of stars.

She was born in Hungary and raised in a small village a few miles off the...

A Witch in Isenshire Cover Reveal

It’s time! Time to show you all the cover for A Witch in Isenshire. 🥰

I’m so excited. A Witch in Isenshire is book two in a planned trilogy of The Witch of Emelle, a series following the ever-optimistic witch Magnolia Hanna and, eventually, the brooding Basil Olivander. The events follow directly after Witch in the Lighthouse.

A Witch in Isenshire is a bold cup of coffee made with determination, personal growth, and adventure.

Magnolia Hanna never thought she’d forgive Basil Olivander, ...

Wherever the Stars Call Cover Reveal

The author S. Jean has been on my radar for a while now. Their books Born of Scourge and Hymn of Memory have extremely enticing synopses, and all of Jean’s covers are gorgeous. Wherever the Stars Call is no different!

From S. Jean’s author profile on Goodreads:
“S. Jean (she/they) is a queer sci-fi & fantasy author writing whatever strikes their fancy at any given moment. When not writing or dreaming of what to write, they can be found dabbling in game dev and drawing!”

Wherever the S...

A Witch in Isenshire News

I wrote the first draft of A Witch in Isenshire in 2020 during a 30 day writing challenge and shelved it for a bit to work on other projects and to give me space after a lengthy writing sprint.

Life happened, as it often does: the full-time job, pandemic, and many other stressors. But, over the proceeding years, I made my revisions and edits, and thanks to betas and my editor, it’s finally ready. I’m so pleased with how AWII came out, with the patience I gave myself to not rush it (and did I...

His Ragged Company – A Forrest Review

You might’ve seen me yelling on Twitter about ROOTIN’ TOOTIN’ WIZARD COWBOYS. Yeah, that was me. I’m not sorry and I’ll do it again. His Ragged Company : A Testimony of Elias Faust by Rance D. Denton is, in fact, a book about those very things. And hell yeah, it’s weird. Good weird.

Categorized as a FANTASY WESTERN, you follow Elias Faust, the chill-ass, priorities-first, bad-ass marshal of Blackpeak: a small, odd, no good town in the middle of Nowhere, Texas. There’s not much to do there ...

Witch in the Lighthouse Surprise

About two weeks ago, I mentioned some exciting news during the new cover reveal of Witch in the Lighthouse (and the audiobook adaptation!) that I wasn’t quite ready to share yet. But the time has come! And I’m still so excited!

Briar Crawford is an author and artist from Canada who is extremely skilled and creative, and a good friend of mine. Most of you have probably already seen, but for Christmas, she commissioned me an amazing rendition of Magnolia Hanna from WIL!

Maggie is seen he...

A Forrest’s Rambling #3

Hi everyone! Wow, it’s been a while since the last Rambling, huh?

Well, I’m still here! I’ve been very busy with my day job, the house, my mental health, and my physical health, too. I had to take a step back from my writing and truly give myself time to decompress and get some space from Apothecary WIP — which I am still working on! Just not right now. It’s been such an extensive project, and I’ve been too close to it for too long.

With my health, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, and ...

Merchants of Knowledge and Magic by Erika McCorkle – A Forrest Writes Review

Wow. Just wow.
Be forewarned: this is NOT for children. Absolutely an adult book.

Merchants of Knowledge and Magic follows Calinthe, an Odonata/Ulysese hybrid—basically a green dragonfly/humanoid—and her bodyguard, a four-armed Godblood, named Zakuro. Calinthe is a Merchant of Knowledge, a follower of the god Lucognidus who uses only information as currency, and trades secrets for the Demon Lord Wiliford. She is intersex, aroace, and to me, perhaps coded as autistic.

Zakuro is a Merchant...
