Livestream this Weekend: THE FUTURE OF COMIC CONS!

After joining me on last week's livestream , my good friend Kelci Crawford invited C Beranek and me to join them over on their channel! Unlike many of our past streams, however, this one has an actual topic: what will be the future of comic cons?!

The Letters of the Devil ​ With two-thirds of the campaign passed, we’ve just reached the 68% mark!  According to Kickstarter’s analytics, campaigns that reach 60% have a 98% chance of becoming fully funded, so I was very excited when that hurdle was cleared yesterday morning!

With the campaign in its final days, I will be upping my sales game.  You may even be hearing from me directly!

​That said, I may not be able to do a livestream this weekend.  I have been invited by my friend Trickssi to go to Anime Crossroads (as an attendee, not as a tabler), so I will be out of town.  We have, however, discussed the possibility of doing a livestream from the hotel, but that will be dependent on the internet quality and our busy schedules.  Keep an eye out!

The Letters of the Devil ​ Passing the halfway point on Kickstarter is an important moment.  Statistically, a campaign that clears this hurdle has a substantially higher likelihood of making its goal.  There’s still a ways to go before we’re in the clear, however, so I have no intention of resting just yet!

I will be tabling alongside  Jaromir Stoll  at this year’s  Indie Comics Fair at the Ace of Cups!   If you live in the Columbus area, this is a particularly good con for meeting and interacting with local cartoonists.  And, if you’re a drinker, it’s hosted in a bar, so win-win!  Hope to see you on March 7th!

The Letters of the Devil
The momentum has slowed a bit on the Kickstarter , but we’re still on track!  We are over a third of the way to the goal with 20 days still left!  More of the limited-quantity original illustrations have been claimed, so if that particular reward caught your interest, I would act sooner rather than later!

There’s a quote by Neil Gaiman that I’m fond of, that will, in fact, be included in the introduction to the book:

I remember when it was all done in the first draft telling Gene Wolfe, who is the wisest writer I know and has written more excellent novels than any man I’ve met, that I thought I had now learned how to write a novel.  Gene looked at me, and smiled kindly.  “You never learn how to write a novel,” he told me.  “You only learn to write the novel you’re on.”

Words of wisdom that definitely applied to The Legacy of L , and which is also, it would seem, applicable ot Kickstarters.  Turns out I had it easy on the first Kickstarter, with a massive initial boost that cleared the funding goal in just 7 days.  Any funds beyond that were “extra”, and I was able to take it easier, knowing that the core funds were secured.  This one has been slower and steadier, and I’ve had to keep the hustle going for a lot longer.  It’s definitely worth it, and I have no intention of stopping until we’ve hit that $2,000 goal, but it’s been a learning experience.

If you want to keep a closer eye on what’s going on with the campaign, the best way is to follow my social media accounts, which will be shamelessly plugging this project for the next month!  I have accounts on Twitter , Instagram , and Facebook that will be posting regular updates.  I also made a recent post about a way you can help promote the project!

As promised, I hosted a livestream this past Saturday on my Twitch channel, due to some technical difficulties preventing me from streaming on YouTube .  I will be posting edited replays on my YouTube channel when I get a chance to work on them, but until then, the raw streams are available here.

I still plan to stream every Saturday at 2 PM EST on my YouTube channel, but the time may shift this week, as this Saturday is my mom’s birthday (hi Mom!) and I need to make sure I have time to call her.  I will post an announcement on Patreon and on my social media accounts if that will be changing.

The Letters of the Devil II
The Kickstarter is off to a fantastic start!  We are over a quarter of the way to the goal with 25 days still left!  Some of the higher-ticket items, like Special Editions and the limited-quantity original illustrations, are already being claimed, so I wouldn’t sleep on this if I were you!

I’m legitimately trying to avoid turning my Patreon and my mailing list into a 24/7 shill-a-thon, but Kickstarters mean an increase in activity, so I will be posting more often than I normally do.  My plan to stem the flow is to do newsletters once every 5 days, and to otherwise try to restrict my posts about the Kickstarter (barring any big, sudden developments).

If, for some reason, you DO want to keep a closer eye on what’s going on with the campaign, the best way is to follow my social media accounts, which will be shamelessly plugging this project for the next month!  I have accounts on Twitter , Instagram , and Facebook that will be posting regular updates.  I also made a recent post about a way you can help promote the project!

Livestreams

I recently did a livestream with Kelci Crawford and had an absolute BLAST doing it.  While I’ve done quite a few art livestreams in the past, I’ve never just sat down and had a conversation with someone on a stream before, and I very much liked it.  It’s made me realize that I need to experiment with streaming more than I have been.

I am tentatively planning on doing at least one livestream a week during the month of February.  Some may be solo, like my past CosPain Live Draws ; some may have guests, perhaps other cartoonists or friends in the cosplay community; and some may be much more outside-of-the-box.

I’m going to tentatively plan to stream every Saturday at 2 PM EST, but I will post an announcement on Patreon and on my social media accounts if that will be changing.  I will also be doing much of my streaming on my YouTube channel instead of my Twitch channel to see which platform better suits my needs.

The Kickstarter is Live!

The Kickstarter for The Letters of the Devil II: The Legacy of L is officially live! The campaign will be running until March 1st at 10 PM, but don't delay, as some of the higher reward tiers are limited! GET YOU SOME COMIX!

WOOOOOOOO FINALLY!

IT IS DONE.

After about 2.5 years and far too many delays, the art for THE LETTERS OF THE DEVIL II: THE LEGACY OF L is finally done. And just in time, too, since the Kickstarter launches tomorrow.

The journey isn't over yet, since I still have to format the book, do some print-testing to make sure all the art looks correct on the page, etc. etc. But the hardest part is behind us. For all intents and purposes, I have completed a 238 page graphic novel. And I have you to thank for it.

Thank you for paying attention to these posts. Thank you for listening to my complaints, frustrations, and repeated apologies. Thank you for understanding that it was more important to make a good comic than a punctual one. But most of all, thank you for showing interest in my work. That, more than anything, has kept me going.

The Kickstarter Pre-Launch Page is up! What does this mean? It means you can now sign up to be notified when the Kickstarter goes live in about a week! THIS IS REALLY FINALLY HAPPENING!
