Writing Blind with Guest Author Katherine Schneider
When today's guest, author Katherine Schneider, offered to write a guest post about a theme I didn't have on my October list, I jumped at the chance. It's Disability Employment Awareness Month, and I asked Katherine to focus on her writing process. Most of us writers, and readers, are primarily visual in our work, but not all writers are. I find her writing process fascinating, and have to say

Penny’s Handy Guide to NOT Making Sexist Comments
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and my guest authors and I are approaching the topic from a variety of angles. C. Hope Clark wrote about "Championing the Abused in Mystery Fiction," and Maggie Toussaint followed with thoughts about writing "Mystery with a Social Issue."
But the sexist attitudes that allow and sometimes encourage domestic violence have deep cultural roots, and they

Fall into a Maggie Toussaint Mystery with a Social Issue
October is Domestic Violence Awareness month, an issue that author Maggie Toussaint addresses in her newest Cleopatra Jones mystery. Integrating such a dark and all-too-real issue into fiction meant mainly to entertain isn't easy - read Maggie's thoughts on the value of making the effort. Leave a comment and you will be entered for a drawing for an ARC (advance reader copy) of Dime If I Know. ~

Guest Author C. Hope Clark Champions the Abused in Her Fiction
October is Domestic Abuse Awareness Month and that is one of the themes for the month on my blog, with the emphasis (as always) on what it means for writers and readers. This is not an easy subject for most writers or readers, but it is one that we need to address as a society now, it seems, as much as ever. It's my pleasure to welcome back C. Hope Clark, author of The Carolina Slade mysteries

Fifty Textures of Sand - and a Sense of Place with Guest Author Nancy Gadzuk
I'm delighted to introduce my friend and fellow author Nancy Gadzuk, whose first novel, Moon Beach Magic, came out recently under the pen name Natasha Alexander. I'm about half-way through the book, and it's hilarious - reminds me of Carl Hiassen's quirky characters. And although it's not a beach read, the book and this post make me want to take my shoes off and head for the wet sand! Enjoy! ~
