Batwoman – ‘Who Are You?’ – Season 1, Episode 4: TV Review

SPOILERS AHEAD

My Rating: 3/5

Finally, we had an episode where things moved forwards. Batwoman began the episode as someone not trusted by the public, and she ended the episode saving a group of people and becoming more popular. It’s a big change from previous episodes. I feel like the show is finally moving in the right direction.

Briefly, I liked the snipits of lines from the radio show like, “you have such a pretty face, Batwoman, why don’t you smile more?’ (or something like that). They were fun...

Supergirl – ‘In Plain Sight’ – Season 5, Episode 4: TV Review

POSSIBLE SPOILERS

My Rating: 3/5

The ending of this episode bumped the rating from 2 to 3. All the way through the episode I was bored of Alex worrying, bored of Brainy milling about, and bored of the cloud of threat that hung over everyone. There was very little in the way of growth for J’onn and that’s a shame considering how much could be done with him.

J’onn’s brother and Lena Luthor working together is something I’ll admit I did not see, although I should have! Looking back it was obvious and that’s wh...

Warbreaker (Warbreaker #1) by Brandon Sanderson: Book Review

This is the story of two sisters, who happen to be princesses. Theirs is a world in which those who die in glory return as gods to live confined to a pantheon in Hallandren’s capital city. A world transformed by a power based on an essence known as breath. Using magic is arduous as breath can only be collected one unit at a time. (Goodreads)

My Review

My Rating: 4/5

As always, the last 50-100 pages in this book wouldn’t let me put it down! Sanderson had me hooked and he knew it!

This was told from the POV of a...

Titans – ‘Jericho’ – Season 2, Episode 8: TV Review

My Rating: 3/5

SPOILERS AHEAD

Once again, the flashback episode was better than the present-day episodes.

Jericho was a great episode. There were so many different sides to each character. I was a little surprised that Grayson wasn’t being literal when he said he killed Jericho, considering the dark turn of the show, but it was a good ending all the same.

I’m not sure what this episode did for the overall season, however, except extend the number of episodes in the season. It would be good to get back to the...

The Flash – ‘Dead Man Running’ – Season 6, Episode 3: TV Review

My Rating: 3.5/5

SPOILERS AHEAD

This was a nice, character-driven episode. Killer Frost stood out as she grieved for the future of a new life she feared she would no longer get to have. It was great to see her confront this and her small arc came to a satisfying conclusion.

Ralf is just great! His story with his mum was a great way of getting inside the character’s head, but it also linked a little to Crisis as all the talk of finding happiness comes after Barry tells him what is going to happen. It’s great to wa...

Arrow – ‘Welcome to Hong Kong’ – Season 8, Episode 2: TV Review

My Rating: 4/5

Another great episode from Arrow!

SPOILERS AHEAD

Let’s start with the flash-forward scenes: This is very character driven, unlike the Crisis-based scenes. It’s good to have that balance and the writing is great. I’m looking forward to the episode dedicated to just these new characters – it’ll be good to see them stand on their own and see how good a spin-off might be.

The Deathstroke gang don’t feel scary or threatening, but I think it’s more about the relationship between the brothe...

Assassin’s Apprentice (The Farseer Trilogy #1) by Robin Hobb: Book Review

Young Fitz is the bastard son of the noble Prince Chivalry, raised in the shadow of the royal court by his father’s gruff stableman. He is treated like an outcast by all the royalty except the devious King Shrewd, who has him secretly tutored in the arts of the assassin. For in Fitz’s blood runs the magic Skill–and the darker knowledge of a child raised with the stable hounds and rejected by his family. As barbarous raiders ravage the coasts, Fitz is growing to manhood. Soon he will face his...

Supergirl – ‘Blurred Lines’ – Season 5, Episode 3: TV Review

SPOILERS AHEAD

My Rating: 3/5

This was a decent episode! Samwise is always welcome on my screen (If you don’t know what I’m talking about, I’m ashamed of you).

J’onn’s storyline finally makes sense! I hate how, because CW demands over 20 episodes of a show that could be done better in at least 13, storylines suffer. This would have been great to see earlier on. His character is going to go through a lot of mental pain now and I’m interested in how he will deal with his guilt/try to make up for his mistake...

Batwoman – ‘Down Down Down’ – Season 1, Episode 3: TV Review

SPOILERS AHEAD

My Rating: 3.5/5

This show is finally going somewhere! I still feel that there must be a tiny budget for this show – CW are stretching themselves too thin right now – but despite that, the small snippets of gotham and the action scenes are pretty good.

This was the first episode with a ‘bad guy’ for Batwoman to take down. The first two episodes felt like filler episodes compared to this one. I enjoyed watching Kate Kane become Batwoman and I’m looking forward to seeing her kicking ass in futu...

Titans – ‘Bruce Wayne’ – Season 2, Episode 7: TV Review

SPOILERS

My Rating: 3/5

It’s a shame that the reveal at the end was so obvious throughout the episode, because it is a great spin on the story and Dick’s character. So many questions about why he’s so uptight and quick to anger with the other Titans have been answered.

Jason’s struggle was interesting to watch. I still hold out a little hope that he will become what we all want him to become, but I doubt the show will do it. It’s a shame, as that would add so much to the season.

Dick’s halluc...
