Best Selling Status

Earlier this week, my Kindle book was in the Amazon Best Seller list in a lower profile category. The next day my book dropped to the #2 slot and will continue to fade. I’m not sure if and when I’ll write my next book, but loved this experience. My purpose was to write my passion (healthy living) and share it with patients who may not be on the road to a healthy lifestyle. Thank you for all the feedback and support. Interview with Dr. Gordon Fimreite, Author of 15 Steps to Health Living

I was privileged to invite Dr. Gordon Fimreite for an interview with BooKecCenTric to discuss his latest book: 15 Steps to Health Living. Enjoy!
Original link of interview: http://www.bookeccentric.com/2018/04/...

15 Steps to Healthy Living by Gordon Fimreite

Thanks for your time today, @DrGordonFimreite. What's your book about, and what inspired you to write it?

@DrGordonFimreite: 15 Steps to Health Living incorporates many facets of health and well being including healthy eating, diet, optimizing nutrition, living longer, weight loss, dieting tips, mindfulness and brain health. I was inspired, in part, by my 105-year-old grandmother’s lifestyle.
I open my book with my healthy grandmother who lived to the age of 105 – healthy and happy: It’s fascinating how much the way she lived her life parallels what research studies are showing to contribute to healthy living and longevity. She ate nutritious foods, exercised, spent time in the sun to get her needed vitamin D, relaxed to handle stress, socialized, enjoyed humor, and had a purpose for living through her faith in God. Unfortunately, not everyone has my grandmother’s wisdom. Many people today eat poorly, exercise rarely, spend more time passively in front of a screen than actively doing mind games, socialize more on Facebook than out in the community, and lack purpose in their lives. Nor does everyone feel motivated to turn their lives around to a healthy lifestyle. This really hit home when I began giving speeches. People would share how difficult, even overwhelming it was to begin healthy habits and stick with them. During one of my speeches, someone yelled, "You have to die of something!" The audience burst into laughter. I thought I was passionately sharing ways to change daily habits and optimize health and add to a longer, more vibrant life. In truth I was overwhelming the audience with healthy tips and health concepts. Little wonder all they could think of was, "I can't give up my coffee" or "I can't give up my pastries and sweets," worried that there would be nothing left to eat to gratify their taste buds or their emotions. After the outburst and having lost my audience, I changed my approach. In future talks, I would say, “It is true we can't live forever. But if you and your loved ones can extend life 5, 10, or even 20 years and rid the feeling of constantly being sick and running to doctors, what’s that worth?"

Who is your target audience, and why do you think this book will appeal to them?

@DrGordonFimreite: This book is really for anyone looking for motivation and adaptable strategies to positively influence their health (body and mind). It's easy to read and can be a resource to those who are already living a healthy lifestyle or can be a source to those looking to start their health journey.

What was the hardest thing about writing your latest book?

@DrGordonFimreite: The most difficult part of writing this book was organizing it and having a general goal for the reader. I didn't want the readers to become bored or overwhelmed with facts and complex strategies. I wanted simple concepts and stories so the knowledge would stick and anyone could start and continue a healthy lifestyle. Each chapter starts and ends with the take home points.

As a writer, is there anything you've learned about yourself while writing this book?

@DrGordonFimreite: The book was a process (much like developing healthy habits) so I learned how to be patient and enjoy the process. One of the most exciting things I experienced while writing the book was ideas would constantly enter my mind. At times I was on a writers high and couldn't write fast enough. It was such a fun and exhilarating process. My personal hobby and career revolves around health. I was in my element so it was a very special process.

For your own reading, do you prefer ebooks or traditional paper/hard back books, and why?

@DrGordonFimreite: I grew up reading paper/hard back books, but started reading Kindle because of the convenience of it and haven't looked back. I find it easier pulling out my Kindle and start reading where I left off regardless of how many books I'm currently reading.

What is your niche genre, and if you were to write in a different genre, what would it be?

@DrGordonFimreite: The genre I prefer reading is health, wellness and self help books. If I was to write in another genre it would be an inspiring story of someone who succeeded in life with an extraordinary or challenging circumstance.

What books and authors have most influenced you?

@DrGordonFimreite: I prefer reading different authors to get different perspectives, viewpoints and ideas.

Do you have any more books in the works?

@DrGordonFimreite: I'm currently focused on my wellness practice, but I'm sure I'll venture to my next project before too long... stay tuned.

Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with bad or good ones?

@DrGordonFimreite: I do read my reviews. I'm curious how others have related to my book and what they have to say. The only control you have is to do your best and focus on the positive. If you can learn from a negative, then that's a bonus. Everyone comes from different backgrounds, experiences and upbringings. You can't please everyone and you can't take reviews personally, you can just do your best.

What is your preferred method to have readers get in touch with or follow you (i.e., website, personal blog, Facebook page, Goodreads, etc.)?

5 Health Tips

From The Lantern - University of Wisconsin La Crosse.
http://lantern.uwlax.edu/5-health-tip...

Alum shares nutrition, sleep, goal-setting advice from new book

With a new year, many set new health goals. UW-La Crosse alumnus Gordon Fimreite’s new book, aims to help. “15 Steps to Healthy Living” combines current trends in health with age-old wisdom Fimreite learned from his grandmother, Olinda Fimreite, who lived to age 105.

Fimreite hopes the book encourages readers to adopt the mindset that healthy living is a journey — not a destination. He adds that UWL helped develop his own healthy lifestyle through sports and recreational activities. He played football for four years and ran track for one.

“I surrounded myself with other athletes and other like-minded students striving to be their best, which included advanced workout routines and nutritional knowledge,” says Fimreite. “UWL was the foundation of starting healthy living habits and subsequently goal setting and self discipline that came with it.”
Here are a few tips from the book:

Tip No. 1: Write out your goals

Years ago Fimreite heard a speech by Mark Victor Hanson, co-author of the popular “Chicken Soup for the Soul” series, who challenged the audience write “101 Lifetime Goals.” Fimreite did it and found them stashed away years later. “I was in shock with disbelief,” he writes. “I had accomplished many of those goals!”

Writing out both personal and professional goals gives people an inner guide and map to set the course, says Fimreite. “It’s like programming a computer. If you write the software, the computer will perform the task. If you write down your goals (writing the software), your creative right brain and analytic left brain (the computer) will find a way to make your goal a reality.”

Task

-- Write a list of goals for the upcoming year
-- Write another list of lifetime goals
-- Write out your biggest successes or accomplishments from the previous year
-- Write what you learned and how you grew

Tip No. 2: Be intentional about getting better sleep

Adults should get seven or more hours of sleep per night, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. But getting good sleep isn’t just about the moment you close your eyes. Fimreite’s book points to various things one can do throughout the day and, in particular, right before bed to improve sleep. Here are a few.

-- Go to sleep and get up consistently at the same time
-- Avoid bright light two hours before bedtime
-- Watch caffeine intake
-- Eat lightly and minimize liquids in the evening
-- Create a quiet, cool, comfortable and completely dark sleeping environment

Tip No. 3: Eat to increase metabolism

Metabolism slows as we age, which can mean weight gain. But gaining pounds as we age is not inevitable if one is proactive. In addition to being physically active, metabolism boosting can come from the foods people eat and when, Fimreite writes. Here are a few of his ideas about metabolism and eating.

-- Use smaller plates to encourage smaller portions
-- Only eat to the point of not feeling hungry
-- Eat four to five smaller meals throughout the day and two healthy snacks
-- Eat metabolism boosting foods like almonds, beans, berries, cinnamon, coconut oil, apple cider vinegar, chia seeds, and spinach.
-- Eat high fiber foods to help you burn fat.

Tip No. 4: Let fiber be your guide

The secret for a carb being good or bad is fiber, writes Fimreite. Fiber helps lower blood sugar, slow absorption of sugar into the blood, cut cholesterol, feel full to promote weight control and more.

Whole plant foods, fruits and vegetables, and legumes (beans and peas) are good sources of fiber. Food made with white flour or white sugar is highly processed and stripped of beneficial fiber.

The recommended amount of daily fiber for the average man or woman is 25 grams — the amount in about three servings each of fruits and vegetables.

Tip No. 5: Use natural sweeteners and drinks

For those satisfying their taste buds with cookies, cakes, candy and sodas, one of the toughest challenges is to break this sugar addiction. But it can be done. Fimreite offers up healthier alternatives to processed sugar:

-- Naturally-sweetened herbal teas
-- Fresh fruit and vegetable juice
-- Coconut water
-- Honey
-- Unrefined maple syrup
-- Brown rice syrup

Chicago Author Writes Inspiring Book on Healthy Living

15 Steps to Healthy Living by Gordon Fimreite
"In “15 Steps to Healthy Living,” Dr. Gordon Fimreite shares current trends in health along with age-old wisdom to reboot the mind and body."

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - Dec 16, 2017 - In his debut book, 15 Steps to Healthy Living, author Dr. Gordon Fimreite combines his vast knowledge on health and wellness with insights from his grandmother to introduce strategies that can be easily adopted into our daily lives to help us manage our overall health.

“I’m very excited about the book because I believe it can help a lot of people and even save lives,” stated Dr. Fimreite. “It is a very user-friendly guide that offers practical advice on how anyone can enhance their health in simple yet remarkable ways. I’m a firm believer that when you change your health, you change your life.”

For Dr. Fimreite, he recognizes his grandmother’s daily habits confirms what research says is the key to longevity and good health. His grandmother, Olinda Fimreite, lived until she was an incredible 105-years-old. In the US, the average life expectancy is 78.8 years. Research shows that less than one percent of Americans actually ever make it to the triple digits. “For my grandmother, she was consistent in life. She ate healthy, choosing foods naturally grown and avoiding processed items; she kept her mind and body active,” explained Dr. Fimreite. “If everyone applied those simples rules, longevity could run in everyone’s family.” Even well into her old age, Dr. Fimreite’s grandmother lived independently and enjoyed such hobbies as reading, attending church and telling stories.

While many self-help books offer “fad tips” or “quick fixes” to living a long, fulfilling life, Dr. Fimreite says the reality is there is no quick fix nor is there a one-size-fits-all solution for being healthy. “Everyone comes from different places on their path to good health. For anyone looking to take control of their health, it’s important to not get overwhelmed. Good habits start slowly,” explained Dr. Fimreite. “To form new habits, it takes 21 days. The goal is making small changes that eventually become a lifestyle. My book explains how to do this.”

According to Dr. Fimreite, healthy living is a journey, not a destination. It’s that mindset, he hopes individuals will adopt by reading the book. The book encourages Americans to re-think everything they think they know about health and wellness in a way that has proven to be effective.

“I truly believe that if you don’t manage your health, your health will ultimately manage you,” stated Dr. Fimreite.

15 Steps to Healthy Living covers a variety of educational topics including but not limited to nutrition, eating habits, in-depth exercise strategies as well as the benefits of positive psychology and happiness. It also explores current trends in health and wellness, detoxing from inside and out along with how sleep and stress management can be beneficial.

“My book encompasses physical, mental and emotional aspects of the human spirit. By just applying when and how to eat certain food groups will make a huge difference in a person’s health and future health and well being,” stated Dr. Fimreite. “Even if the reader is not ready for some of the tips found in the book, at least the seed will have already been planted for the future.”

15 Steps to Healthy Living will motivate readers to lose weight naturally, organize their health plan and glow from the inside out—and just be overall better versions of themselves. The book is currently available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble for $12.99. Readers can also download the Kindle version of the book for $9.99 on Amazon.
