Poem #444

we’re rolling
and moving
and breathing
and smiling
and loving
and living

dread the coming day

Poem #440

I used to want to be thin and beautiful
delicate and fragile like a flower
managing to exist in the desert
retaining a softness that is unwavering
not to be touched but to be seen
I thought of myself like that
but I like the perspective I have now
I am rough and bristly
a cactus thriving in the desert
retaining water and life for myself
and for thirsty passers-by
I am useful and I am tough
touched and wanted and heard

Poem #439

cat crosses the street
in the night
humans are asleep
cat licks her paws
watching the lonely walker
neither initiates interaction
but they watch each other
as walker turns the corner
cat stalks after a mouse
she catches it and carries it home

Poem #438

growing discomfort
remain numb
sing a song
paint a picture
read subtitles
clean the floor
be cheerful

Poem #437

blue dog lounges
in a resting grass field
flies fly around him
farm cat pounces on a rat
sun goes down
crickets sing their songs
and blue dog observes all
letting it all pass
like he exists outside it
but the sensation
of wind tickles his ears
farmer calls him inside
and he sleeps soundly
to go out tomorrow
and exist again

Poem #436

laughing at everything
our feet touching
holding our phones
you fall asleep on my bed
I look over at you
I’m cramped
but I don’t wake you
your presence is wholeness
this is friendship

Poem #435

he kisses her
unabashed

she smiles and kisses
shy

love is real
palpable

they look good together
belonging
