January 2018

We’re late in posting because let’s be honest, January was a FREAKING AWESOME month for all things AUTUMN RUBY!

First off we celebrated the success of CHRISTMAS KISSES which has so far raised over £250 for DRESSEMBER charity. It’s more then we ever could have expected for our first publication and just goes to show the true power of words and writing.

The rest of the month was spent gearing up for the release of our debut novel CROSSED FORCES and we are still coming down from the excitement! 30 of our favourite bloggers read the book every single review was POSITIVE

On the last day of the year we thought it would be a good opportunity to take a minute to look over the highlights of 2017. It’s been an absolute rollercoaster and we have loved every minute!

FBBF Was our favourite day and we had such a good time meeting lots of you in person. We were also lucky enough to meet our unicorn author

November 2017 & Kicking nanowrimo ass!

November has taken us by surprise and has already been packed FULL of juicy treats!

We discovered NANOWRIMO and we have already smashed out 15,000 words of book two which we hope you are going to love just as much as we do!

Next, we had a little idea to create a Christmas Anthology packed with juicy, sexy and heartwarming stories from all our fave indie authors. Fast forward a few invites and we have an AMAZING line up that we can’t wait to share it with you soon!

We have had so much support from other authors and have found the whole experience of writing our first novel really empowering. So we tried to think of a way we can empower other woman and what better way than through our writing. So happy to let you know that ALL of the profits from Christmas Kisses will go to charities supporting women.

Christmas can leave a lot of families in crisis across the globe and women especially suffer during this time. Issues including domestic violence and poverty are often worsened during the festive period and hopefully the money raised can go a little way in to making those tough times just that little bit easier.

Our story, ‘My 12 days of Christmas’ is full of surprises in the lead up to the big day and we got all the festive feels writing it! One thing we both have in common is our love for all things Christmassy so we have had a ball writing this and reading everyone else’s entries! There’s something for everyone so be sure to pick up a copy and treat yourself in the run up to the big day.

Of course, as we are both mum’s we have started our Christmas shopping early so have already bagged some bargains, we hope you early birds have got some good deals and for all you last minutes…may the force be with you!

Last but not least, the youngest member of Tasha’s family little Lola celebrated her big girl birthday and turned 5 this month!

We hope your November is filled with all your favourite winter things! ❄ Keep reading, keep writing and if your participating in NANOWRIMO don’t forget to buddy us Autumn_Ruby we’d love to be part of your journey

October Update!

Its been a fun filled October so far and we’re learning lessons hard and fast so here’s the two biggest things we’ve learned this month;
The importance of being authentic. Easier said than done! With all those amazing authors out there it’s easy to be caught up in the buzz of current writing trends or what you think will sell. As you know if you follow us on social media, we sent out first draft out to beta readers a few weeks ago and held our breath (not literally) waiting for the feedback. Those of you who write will understand it’s a seriously wierd feeling putting yourself out there for other people to read something you’ve poured your heart and soul into. Lots of nail biting and worrying and celebrating when the feedback came and it was positive! ❤However, there were problems with the dialogue being more British than American. We had tried to be something we’re not for the sake of impressing and made the decision that rather than change our dialogue we would change our story setting.
We are two English girls and there are so many beautiful places to write about that we can’t believe we ever tried to set it anywhere else. Now we can truly get inside the heads of our characters and understand them because, at times, we’ve walked in their shoes. We’ve spent time in the places they spend time and we sincerely hope this comes across in our writing and makes for a better story. So advise for this month is keep it real and your readers will appreciate it much more.
Next lesson has been the power of connecting with others. We have made so many new friends both readers, authors, bloggers and a bunch of other creative people who have been able to offer support, advice and guidance. We were clueless setting out and had no idea how much we would come to rely on our new friendships for positivity and inspiration to keep going. Connect. Communicate. Be open and people will start to respect you for who you are

Muse for Blake:

1. Do you believe in astrology? Does your sign fit you?

All that wierd stuff freaks me out, my moms really into it so I’ve kind of avoided any of that star sign stuff since moving out. I remember her saying I’m a typical Leo whatever that means!

2. If you could be any animal, what would you be?

A panther, they’re rare, fearless and powerful.

3. Would you rather leave your hometown and never be able to return again, or stay in your hometown but never be able to leave?

I would struggle to stay as it can get claustrophobic at times but if I had to choose it would be hands down my hometown, London.

4. If you were really hungry, really exhausted, AND really gross, what would you do first — eat, nap, or shower?

Sausage on toast with loads of ketchup then nap then shower is that bad? I’d probably work out before the shower too.

5. Sneaking into a second movie: super-wrong or harmless fun?

You mean like in the movies? I’d probably hire it out for the night but I don’t really go, my TVs massive anyway so there’s not much point.

6. If you had a time machine, would you go back in time or visit the future?

Definately back in time, there’s a special someone I’d love to see again, you’ll find out more about her soon.

7. What’s more important, truth or happiness?

Happiness. 100%

8. If you go to a restaurant and have terrible service, is it ever OK not to tip?

No way, they might just be having a bad day, I’d never not tip -unless they were rude then I’d be leaving a tip with their manager to fire them I can’t stand bad manners.

9. If you could only hear one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Usher Pop Ya Collar, it’s a classic.

10. If you could marry your celeb crush or be BFFs with your fave celeb, which would you choose?

Well I wouldn’t be marrying anyone that’s for sure, I don’t do relationships -not that kind anyway. My fave celeb’s gotta be Joey from friends, character or not the guys a legend.

11. What’s something everyone else loves that you secretly find overrated? How come?

Money. It’s not all it’s cracked up to be.

12. What’s one book that you had to read for school that you ended up loving?

I once read Kanye West’s autobiography it was really cool the way he wrote all his own stuff and sang with his jaw wired shut. I used to be really into rap music in high school.

13. If you could go to any college, regardless of cost or location, where would you go?

Calafornia. The girls there are badass.

14. Would you rather be rich or famous? (In this game, you can’t be both.)

Definately rich I can’t stand the paps up in my face

Our 5 Top Tips for New Authors!

[image error]1) Set Realistic Goals

Make sure you work out the numbers before you start. How much can you realistically write each day? When do you hope to release your novel and what do you hope to achieve from your writing. If your not writing for the love of it you should probably not consider it as a career choice as the pressure of you don’t earn what you want to will be too great to ever write anything worth reading. Keep your audience in mind but don’t be crippled by ‘trying to get it right.’ The most freeing and creative thing about writing is your best ideas and content almost always come from the heart. Readers love nothing more than a genuine, fresh story that’s come straight from within to paper. Most importantly and of course the hardest part…commit to making your goals happen. If you really want to do this, you will probably need to make some sacrifices to be able to meet the goals you set for yourself but equally important, don’t beat yourself up if you don’t meet your goal. Just pick up where you left of as soon as you feel ready to and you’ll soon be back on track.

Ps. Aim to pass your goals not just reach them and you will surprise yourself in terms of achievement
