Day 3,303: Bass
I had the work day today I needed. Whew.
Coco is still settling into a routine at home. We‘re upping the meds she takes for kinda conking her out, because she’s been very active. Or, at least, WANTING to be really active, which we can’t have. She needs to rest. So, she gets a full pill now every eight hours.
It’s objectively good that she’s wanting to get back to normal. It means she’s feeling much better. But, we’re in the crucial early stages of her recovery, and she’d injure herself if ...

Day 3,302: Progress
Coco has been home one day, and she’s already making progress.
She walked! And peed! Granted, I had to hold her haunches while she did those two activities, but she definitely still has control of her limbs and sphincters back there. Thank. Dog.
It’ll take time for her to recover. I knew that intellectually, but seeing it makes it that much clearer. She had a major injury. Which is wild, because we don’t even know when it happened or what caused it. Just, all the sudden, major, change-the-...

Day 3,301: Coco Is Home
Coco is home. She’s back from the hospital. She went poop on her own outside. She hasn’t peed yet at home, but apparently she went pee at the hospital today (and I don’t think she’s had much water to drink — she didn’t want her meatorade tonight). Something to monitor…
She’s eating. She’s very, very weak. But, she’s resting and she’s not in pain which is a MASSIVE improvement from last week when she was literally screaming. Whew!
I had a solid work day. My book published today. We ate frui...

Day 3,300: Nice Even…
I had the working weekend I needed. Not the one I wanted per se, but the one I needed. And I did want it, I suppose, because I needed it. I’m not quite caught up. I’m about a week behind, still, actually…but I made up enough ground that if I continue to grind away this week, I can do some major, major catchup. Whew.
Niners won. By the skin of their teeth it felt like, but they did it. Warriors lost. We’re…not good this year. It’s frustrating. There’s still technically time for them to turn it...

Day 3,299: Get it
Tonight before bed, Liz and decided to figure out who—of the old, classic age of cinema—could get it. Our list so far is Gregory Peck, Audrey Hepburn and Christopher Plummer. The list will grow, for sure, but that’s where we’re starting from.
Coco should be ready to come home tomorrow. They say she’s progressed to oral meds. She can still pee on her own. She’s eating and drinking. And she’s tolerating being handled. So…home tomorrow we hope.
I also finally got some work done, so real work ...

Day 3,298: Change of Plans
So, because Coco just had back surgery…I’m not going to make it to the writers’ conference that’s about to kick off. I’m really bummed. And really mortified with how much responsibility I’m suddenly shifting onto other people’s shoulders, since I was leading one of the big volunteer teams. They’re going to do great, I know this, but damn. I’m really sorry guys.
Coco is doing well, according to the hospital. She’s eating. She has control of her bladder and her bowels. And she doesn’t appear to...

Day 3,297: Muskrat
Coco’s surgery was successful today. She’s in ICU care, basically, for the next three days (ish). Thank dog.
I was still a basket case today. Did some work, but not much. Tomorrow, however, I’m hoping will be different. We’ll see.
Night night.

Day 3,296: Shadow Ban
Coco is in the hospital tonight.
There is good news: the neurologist thinks that she’s going to be okay. It appears to be the same kind of spinal issue as before, a herniated disc. T-12, this time, specifically, was insanely painful when he palpitated it. Last time he didn’t recommend imaging. He recommended drugs and rest. It worked.
This time…Coco is *much* worse. Today was rough, you guys. Really, really rough. She was in the most pain I think I’ve ever seen anyone, ever. Just writhing ...

Day 3,295: Oh Coco
Coco isn’t doing well.
She woke up this morning in severe pain, howling pain. That’s so hard to hear from your dog. We think it’s her sciatica, which has been present for a couple weeks now, but man, it definitely ratcheted up a giant notch this morning. She was even incontinent for a hot second.
She’s a little better now. I’m hoping she’ll be able to sleep through the night. This morning, she couldn’t even lay down without being in immense pain. Liz had to hold her so that her back legs d...

Day 3,294: Caught Up
Well, damn. I caught up.
The book gets uploaded tomorrow, clean as a whistle. I got to fix everything I wanted to. I’m happy with the fixes. The beta readers enjoyed it, some even raved. I hope the readers enjoy it, too. We’ll find out soon because it publishes NEXT WEEK.
All that’s left is for me to fix a few things the typo hunters found, format it, and we’re done. DONE.
Two books. Two years. Need to close that loop a bit…but it’s progress.
Night night.
