The Big Bang isn’t just a theory. I felt it the moment I laid eyes on her.Her ruby red lips and lush curves called to me on a primal level, and I instantly knew I would do anything for her to be mine.And then she walked into my College AP Chemistry class and introduced herself as the teacher.Never one to back down from a challenge, I decide to get creative. Looks like I’m going to need some extra tutoring after class. Now it’s just a waiting game on how long it will take to get her out from behind the desk and into my bed. She doesn’t respond. Instead, she stares at me with something like wonder in her eyes as I open her door and make sure the coast is clear. Once I make sure there’s no one out there, I turn and take her in. Her cheeks are flushed, lipstick smeared, hair a mess, and clothes rumpled. Roxie Hart looks like what wet dreams are made out of.

With that thought, I leave before I have to take her again.

Her thumb rubs along my bottom lip. Her eyes following her movements. “I didn’t think it would be that good again. I thought last time might be a fluke, but now…” she trails off and starts to remove herself from my lap.

I hold her in place, liking the way she feels on me. “That’s us. I think it will only get better with time.”

Her hand comes up and cups my cheek. “I could easily get addicted to you, Merrick Landry.”

“That’s a good thing since I’m already addicted to you.” I suck her bottom lip for a moment before I sit back. “While this was amazing. We’re going to have to find someplace else to meet up.”

“You’ve already fallen,” my dad mutters.

“I think I fell for her the second I met her. What I feel for her in such a short amount of time is unexplainable.”

“You don’t need to explain,” Asher says. “It’s the boom, boy. While I don’t know much about her situation, I know she hasn’t had it easy as of late. She probably thinks it’s happening too fast, but give her time.”

“There’s something she’s keeping from me and I have to believe it’s bad after everything else she’s told me. I want to protect her, but after today, what if she thinks it would be safer to be somewhere else?” I confess what’s been eating me up inside.

She looks out the window and bites her lower lip. “If this was before Bradley, I would say no, but I have Beckham and a baby to think about as well as myself. Right now, I’m having a hard time trusting men.”

I don’t blame her. She’s been burned badly. Being abused and controlled for the last four years would make anyone hesitant to trust new people.

“I’m going to lay this out for you because I don’t want it to blindside you later. I like you, Delilah, and I like your son. From the moment I laid eyes on you, I’ve felt a pull to you that I can’t explain, and I want to investigate it further.”

She opens her mouth to what I’m sure is going to be her politely turning me down, but I stop her with a finger to her plush lips.

“I know now isn’t a good time in your life, but let me get to know you and you can do the same with me. We’ll take it slow and if you see me as only a friend, I’ll try to learn to accept that fate.”

Her mouth opens and closes a few times before she finds her words. “I’m not saying I’m considering what you’ve just said, but I want to know. How can you want a relationship with a woman who has children that aren’t your own?”

“You know December isn’t my real mom. She’s my stepmother, but she’s treated me and my brother more like a mother than our biological one ever did. Blood doesn’t make a parent. Love does, and I can say with one hundred percent certainty that it wouldn’t take me long to love your son.”

Headlights flash through his bedroom window, making my heart race double time. I’m scared of what lies ahead for our future, but I know this is what I need to do to keep us safe.

In my head, I count the stairs as I descend to the living room, making sure I don’t step on the one squeaky stair that will alert my departure. I never understood why Bradley wouldn’t fix it, but now I wonder if it was in case of this very scenario. I know if I get caught now, it’s likely Bradley will kill me, Beckham, and my unborn baby.

After turning off the alarm, I open the front door, but stop when it lets out a loud noise that I swear could wake the dead and very well might have woken my boyfriend.

No, not my boyfriend.

My ex-boyfriend.

He just doesn’t know it yet. He won’t know until he wakes up in the morning and finds us gone.

Holding onto Beckham with everything in me, I run out of the house and down the sidewalk to the waiting car. I don’t even sit Beckham down in the seat before I slide in and buckle us both in with him on my lap.

“Go,” I urge the driver as sweat starts to form along my hairline.
