Plato Crater is Coming

The sequel to the Hills of Mare Imbrium is getting closer. Beta readers are giving me their views on Jonah, Yesha, and my brand new character Holly.

Plato Crater extends the story and takes it in twisty new directions. I even have a working blurb:

Jonah never expected to be back in Houston after his brother died. He would rather have stayed on the Moon with the woman he loves than face his father, or his ex-girlfriend and her drug-dealing brother. The faceless Council of Panamerica might send him back, if he agrees to their terms.

Holly just wanted to steal her breakfast. Now she’s cooking for a crowd of hungry marines and trying hard not to be terrified by the lunar mountains outside the window.

Yesha is struggling to be the Empress of the Moon her people want. The people are restless; everyone is talking about the new European base in Plato Crater; and the droids are behaving even stranger than usual.

Three people’s lives intertwine in a sweeping tale of choices that leave them questioning what it even means to be human.

Local Author

Another advantage of having a paperback available is that you can get  listed in the library system

The Paperback of The Hills of Mare Imbrium is live

Yes! It’s available as a paperback.

I was more than just a little  thrilled when this turned up in the mail the other day. There’s something about the implied legitimacy of a real book that you just don’t get from having an ebook published.

Books I Loved this Year

As the year draws to a close, I’m looking back over the ridiculously large pile of books I read this year and musing on those that really struck me for one reason or another. Of the many, I wanted to share these six with you:

The Slow Regard of Silent Things by Patrick Rothfuss

Is it possible to write a story without dialogue that says so much? Yes, it is. People will either love this or hate it. I’m in the first camp The Slow Regard of Silent Things is an unutterably beautiful picture of one small life.

The Fifth Season (The Broken Earth #1) by N.K. Jemisin

N.K. Jemisin won the 2016 Hugo for this incredible tour de force. She breaks all the rules of writing and produces an enthralling tale of magic that may be science.

Incognolio by Michael Sussman

I had to laugh when I finished reading this. My Kindle brought up a list of “Other books like Incognolio”.

Let me assure you there are no other books like this.

Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill

Billed as a horror, this is really a taught thriller with a particularly nasty ghost as the antagonist.

We Are Legion (We Are Bob) by Dennis E. Taylor

Come to the Bobiverse, you know you want to. It’s wild crazy, and full of nerd humour.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

This one is simple, you either love the little book thief or your heart is a shrivelled black lump of lifeless stone.

Nanowrimo 2017

Despite having free time on my hands, I’ve been slow to get the second book started. The Nanowrimo challenge is going to provide much needed motivation to write.
