Teaser Tuesday

Welcome to Teaser Tuesday! This blog is where I’m going to share snippets from my [image error]books, works in progress and pictures that inspired my stories.

Today’s teaser is coming from my contemporary romance, Chasing Trouble.

After a not so happy reunion with her ex-boyfriend. Ava’s stuck at Nick’s house during a storm in need of more help from him than she wanted.

“I have nothing to wear. Do you have something I can borrow?”

He crossed his arms over his chest and leaned against the window frame. “You keep getting yourself in a predicament tonight, don’t you?”

The smug smile on his arrogant face needed to be wiped off. “Well, I do like to sleep naked and tend to get up during the night if you’re comfortable with that?” She slipped her fingers in the knot of her towel like she was about to let it drop.

Nick’s nostrils flared, and his jaw tightened.

She couldn’t suppress her smile of satisfaction. Mr. Cool wasn’t so cool after all.[image error]

He sneered and stormed into what she remembered was his parents’ bedroom. A couple of minutes later he reappeared with a bundle in his arms. He threw it at her. “Here, put these on.”

She let go of the grip on the towel to catch the clothes. The knot loosened, and it dropped in a puddle at her feet.

They both froze for a beat. Nick’s eyes were back to flashing fierce hot flames, and Ava’s heart skidded to a stop as she clutched the bundle of clothes to her chest.

She was the first to break the spell. “Having a good look?”

His lip curled into a cruel sneer. “Nothing I haven’t seen before.” Then he spun on his heels and stormed back into the bedroom, slamming the door.

“Sweet dreams,” she yelled at the closed door. She let out a shuddery breath and sank down onto the couch.

CHASING TROUBLE is available in ebook from these retailers.

My September Reads.

What a great and different genre of books I’ve read during the month of September.  These days while I try to write, work and take care of the family, I don’t have as much time to read.  So I’m happy that the few books I got my hands on in September were good ones.  Wouldn’t it be great if there was an extra day of the week dedicated only to reading?

[image error]The Runaway Countess by Leigh LaValle. (Regency Romance) I love a good historical romance and this one didn’t disappoint.  With a Robin Hood story line, it had a bit of mystery, a pinch of action and of course—romance.  I’m ready to read book two in this series.

The Things We Leave Unsaid by Megan Mayfair. (Women’s Fiction) This is Megan’s debut book and what a great job she’s done.  It follows the lives of two women who meet in a coffee shop.  There’s family drama, personal struggles and it’s written in a way that pulls the heart strings.

Beneath This Mask by Meghan March. (Hot Contemporary Romance) [image error]This book is a bit of a darker read. After Charlie’s father has been sent to jail, she’s gone into hiding and covers herself with tattoos.  She also holds the proof she needs to either follow her father’s footsteps and end up in jail, or clear her name.  The opening scene drew me in straight away and I liked how it was more a bad girl with a good guy.  It’s usually the other way around.

[image error]Moonglow by Kristen Callihan. Book 2 in the Darkest London Series. (Historical Romance) Although this book is historical, it’s filled with mystery, murder and werewolves which gives the genre a pretty cool twist. Daisy is newly widowed and hoping to enjoy the freedom of not being tired down to a dreadful husband. But she’s being stalked and almost killed by a predator and needs the help of the Marquis of Northrup who’s hiding his own secrets from London Society.

Taking time to smell the roses… or should I say, the ocean.

I live in such a beautiful part of the world but I sometimes forget to take the time to soak it all in.  So today, on a beautiful spring morning I decided to put the sneakers on and head down to the harbour for a walk.  [image error]

I’m so glad I did because the morning was perfect.

I often find that between work, writing and other commitments I’m stuck in offices or in the house with a not so great view.

It’s amazing what a bit of sunshine and fresh air can do to clear the mind and get the creative juices flowing.

Hopefully, I can hit the keyboard with great ideas for new stories.  Wish me luck!

Teaser Tuesday – Chasing Trouble

Welcome to Teaser Tuesday!  This blog is where I’m going to share teasers from my book and also works in progress.  Today’s teaser is from the book I’m working on at the moment called Chasing Trouble which features a character, Ava from my first book, The Trouble with Mr. Pretty.  If you haven’t read The Trouble with Mr. Pretty and don’t know who Ava is, don’t worry – both books can be read as a standalone.

So here is an unedited snippet.

“I’m coming with you.”  She closed the door and arranged her coat so she could sit more comfortably.

“What happened to you cooking me a three-course meal?”

Ava scoffed.  “Like that would really happen.”  She pointed to the opening of the shed.  “What are you waiting for?”

“For you to get out.”

Stubbornly she said, “Not going to happen.”

“I’m going to check on fences and do repairs.”  His lips flattening in a stern line, the words sounded strained.

“I can help you check the fences.”

His gaze swept over her and he let out a short harsh laugh.  “You’re gonna help me dressed like that?”

“I can spot the damaged ones for you from inside of the truck.”

Nick shook his head.  “No way Avi-baby…”  Ava gasped and Nick slammed his lips shut.  They both stared wide eyed at each other at the mention of the playful nickname Nick called her when they were younger.

Clearing his throat, he broke eye contact and started the truck.  “If you want to tag along you’re gonna have to help.”

Ava didn’t mention anything about her nickname.  She wasn’t exactly sure how she felt hearing it again after all these years.  “But my outfit…”

“Is fucking ridiculous.”  Nick finished.

“I wasn’t exactly planning on being stranded on a farm.”

I’m loving getting the normally immaculately dressed Ava messed up a little and can’t wait for you to read about Ava and Nick.

While you’re waiting, The Trouble with Mr. Pretty is available in ebook from these retailers.

BOOK REVIEW: The Hating Game

The Hating Game
By Sally Thorne

Okay, I’m probably a little late getting to this book.  I wasn’t sure if it was going to live up to the hype I kept seeing, so I put it off.  Then it showed up as “something I might like to read” on my Kindle and I thought “why not give it a go?”  I’m glad I did!

Two co-executives, Lucy and Josh, battle it out at work every day trying to make each other miserable while they’re forced to share the same office.  They play games like copying one another’s gestures, stare at each other intensely and basically be annoying until someone wins the game.  There’s a lot of fun and witty banter that you can’t help laugh at.

Josh is stiff and grumpy on the outside but surprisingly sweet and vulnerable on the inside.  Lucy is quirky, funny and feisty and they soon discover chemistry simmering between them that can’t be ignored no matter how much Lucy wants to try.

If you’re looking for a light-hearted and fun story, this one will not disappoint.  It’s a great read.

The wait is almost over. Release date coming soon!

[image error] coming soon

It’s been an exciting few months with the release of my debut book, THE TROUBLE WITH MR PRETTY soon approaching.  And I can’t wait for you to meet sexy sport star Jack Henderson and Lauren Moore, a brave and strong woman who doesn’t want to fall for his irresistible charms but can’t resist.

While I am eagerly awaiting its release, I’d like to share where the idea for my story came from.  A couple of years ago, after out celebrating New Year’s Eve, I had a dream about a woman sitting on her own watching the New Year’s Eve fireworks.  When I woke up, I quickly scribbled it down and it went on to be the prologue and the story grew from there.  But I decided it was a bit too deep and depressing, so I threaded it into the book where it required the emotion.  Here is the deleted scene.

Laughter.

Excitement.

Dancing.

Kissing.

She wasn’t experiencing any of these.

She sat on a prickly patch of grass while a brilliant display of fireworks exploded above her head.  Red, green and gold rained down from the sky.

She couldn’t see its brilliance.

Crowds cheered all around her as they celebrated the New Year and made promises they wouldn’t keep.

She heard nothing.

She sat and waited for the pain.

Wishing for it to come.

Wanting to feel it rip through her body.

Anything would be better than the dull emptiness spreading through her.

The numbness wouldn’t make her cry, scream – grieve.

She needed to do all these things but her body wouldn’t do what her mind screamed for it to do.  So, on a prickly patch of grass under the colours falling from the sky, she waited.

Keep an eye out for The Trouble with Mr Pretty’s release date coming soon!

Book Review: Lost and Found Sisters

Lost and Found Sisters

By Jill Shalvis [image error]

Let me start off by saying, I loved this book!

Whenever I read a book written by Jill Shalvis I know I’m going to be entertained.  She’s funny, she has emotion and always has a good love story.  But Lost and Found Sisters has all that and more.

Quinn’s life seems perfect on the outside.  A great job, loving family and handsome boyfriend but a tragedy in her past has stopped her from enjoying her life.  When she gets news that shatters her, she leaves her job, family and boyfriend and moves to a small town with quirky characters and an even bigger surprise.

It’s there she learns what she truly wants and needs to move forward.

Lost and Found Sisters will leave you smiling, shedding a tear and sighing with a happy ending.

A must read!
