If you create circumstances in your writing that you wish for, to a certain extent, those circumstances are brought about. And you can enjoy them as can your reader. In a way, the author creates a shared reality. This has certainly been done in the fields of mystery and general romance, and to an even greater extent in literary fiction over the ages. My desire is to bring about experiences that promote goodwill, honesty, and genuine love toward others in all its forms.

You can journey through time, other countries, other cultures, and there's no limits on what can happen while you're there. Of course, it's sad when the story comes to an end and you have to say goodbye to the "friends" you've made along the way. I think that might be why so many of us like to create series--you can hang onto the characters you've created.(less)

But it makes for a rich bed of experience and character behaviors that you can draw on when you get ready to design your characters. Most authors feel that it's the characters that create the stories, so they are very important. I agree!(less)

Christmas Sweetness--Workarounds during the War Years

What—no sugar?

Tucked inside the memories of the War years Christmases is the fundamental struggle for resources. Probably most remembered and challenging of those resources at home was that of sugar. As one of the very first food items to be rationed, sugar quickly became a coveted and very protected provision. The Sugar Book, as the ration book was known, contained stamps allotting each person o.../>
