Week Five, AMERICAN DEMON ARC give-away

Hi all.

[image error]It’s the fifth give-away for an ARC of AMERICAN DEMON! I’ll be doing this every Tuesday from now until June. Already entered a previous week? You can do it again! Here’s how you enter today.

Using an email you have access to for the next five days, email Tim at   Put “My Sign of Spring is” in the subject line so we know you’re entering the contest. In the email, tell me your most cherished, funny, or otherwise real sign of spring you always look for. It might be a flower, it might be a bird, it might be driving with your window down or the smell of rain. (And tell me if you’ve seen/done it yet!) Mine is the smell of wet sidewalk in a haze of morning sun, but the sound of a cardinal singing in February is, according to my grandpa, when winter’s back is broken. You can also share your story here. Bonus points for a picture!–which actually gets you nothing, but hey, sharing is caring. One entry per household please.

I will cut off entries at midnight, PST on Wednesday, April 29. Winner will be announced Thursday morning, After I email he or she back for the address where they want me to mail the ARC to as well as find out if and how they want me to sign it.  Winners will have until that Friday, May 1st, midnight to get back to me to claim the ARC and tell me their mailing address. If I don’t hear from you by Friday, May 1st. midnight, the ARC goes back in the pool and I will give away two next week. Last week, Lisa won out of 1,300+ entries. Congrats, Lisa!

[image error] Out of the U.S? Change here: I’m going to have to limit this to U.S. readers only now because the USPS has stopped accepting international packages. And if they won’t take them or give me a custom form, I can’t send them. Envelopes and letters are still okay, (so you can still send me a SASE for a freebie) but a book? No. Can’t do it. I am sorry. This is not how I like to do things.

Books will go out USPS media mail, which takes some time. Chance of winning depends upon how many enter. Winners will be chosen by a random number generator, and I can’t be responsible for mail that goes astray.

That’s it. Apart from coming  back next Tuesday to enter again with a new question! I’ve got a bunch of these to give away.

And good luck!

If you want to skip the chaos and pre-order, I have a list of my favorite stores that I’ve signed at. If you like your local store where they are, please consider ordering online from them. Not just my book, but any book during this time. Everyone loves Amazon, but you want your local bookstores to survive, and the inventive people who run them are finding ways to adapt. List of Kim’s Favorite Stores

Also, I’ve heard from my local yarn shop that they still have a few kits available to knit up Ivy’s market bag. If you’ve not seen these yet, this is my own pattern with two handles, one shoulder strap for when empty and over your shoulder, one lower, sturdier handle for when it’s laden and full. Each kit comes with a predrilled, Hollows coin you can attach to the bag if you want.

New AMERICAN DEMON give-away and AMA

Hi all.

[image error]It’s the  fourth out of tenth give-away for an ARC of AMERICAN DEMON! I’ll be doing this every Tuesday from now until June. Here’s how you enter today!

Using an email you have access to for the next five days, email Tim at   Put “TP score” in the subject line so we know you’re entering the contest. In the email, tell me how many rolls and where you got your last TP fix. Mine was unexpectedly a reader. (Thank you, Eric! I wish you had included an email in your care package. It was lovely!) You can also share your story here for bonus points–which actually get you nothing, but hey, I’m sure some of you have interesting stories concerning TP runs. One entry per household please.

I will cut off entries at midnight, PST on Wednesday, April 22. I will contact the winner Thursday morning, and announce them after they return my email. The winner will have until Friday, April 24, midnight to get return my email with the address they would like me to mail the ARC to as well as find out if and how they want me to sign it.  Again: winners will have until that Friday midnight to get back to me to claim the ARC and tell me their mailing address. If I don’t hear from you by Friday, 4/24, midnight, the ARC goes back in the pool and I will give away two next week. Cathleen won last week out of almost 2,000 entries. Congrats, Cathleen!

Out of the U.S? You can still enter to win. ARCs have no cash value, though they may get held up in customs forever. Books will go out USPS media mail, which takes some time, especially now. Chance of winning depends upon how many enter. Winners will be chosen by a random number generator, and I can’t be responsible for mail that goes astray.

That’s it. Apart from coming  back next Tuesday to enter again with a new question! I’ve got a bunch of these to give away.

Good luck!

[image error]And a quick heads-up! I will be doing an AMA this Friday at 4:30. Set your phone, tell your reading buddies. This was supposed to be an in-person event at a con, but…well…my PR is all online this year, making me concerned my usual readers won’t know about the new Rachel/Trent book.

So write down your writing, knitting, gardening, and yes, Hollows questions for me for Friday. Not now. Friday at the AMA site. I’ll have a direct link at the time, but if you want to check AMAs out and get signed in before the crush so your electronics talk to their electronics, here’s a link to their website.

American Demon Freebies: how to get in on this

[image error]Get your envelopes ready, the AMERICAN DEMON tour freebies are in, and because I’m not counting on the tour to happen in the usual way, I made sure these things are MAILABLE!! I’m going to miss you guys if I can’t get out, but being able to send you something you’d only get at an in-person signing makes it easier to swallow.

This year, I recreated the store bag from Patricia’s Spell Shop, right downtown Cincinnati. Remember the spell shop that Minias and Al trashed? That’s the one. The store features in the new book as well, and though the bag won’t have the charms in it that Rachel gets from Patricia’s shop, you can still get the bag. All you have to do is send me a SASE. (Self -Addressed, Stamped Envelope)

If you’ve never sent me a SASE before, I’ve got an example of what you make up and mail me below.

My address goes in the upper left, yours in the middle so I can send it back to you with the freebie in it, and don’t forget the stamp. Fold it up, and mail it to me at the address below. In a few weeks, you should get your envelope back with a freebie in it. It’s that simple! (and for you stay-at-home/homeschooling parents, a possible lesson?)

American Demon freebie

PO Box 498

Dexter, MI, 48130

USA (if outside the U.S.)

This is what you mail me to get your freebie

Please don’t use metallic ink. The post office can’t handle it, and we’ve lost some. Also, those little return address stickers don’t work well either.

If you are outside the U.S., don’t put return postage on your SASE. We’ll take care of it because the US postal people make International Reply Coupons way too confusing. We got this.

Also, I’ve done some research, and from what I’ve been able to find out, Covid-19 lasts on printer paper for only a few hours. (FYI, paper money is different. It lasts for days.) So don’t worry about sending/receiving them. All the same, Tim will be wearing gloves and a mask while processing them, and he would appreciate it if you use a self-stick envelop if you have them. If not, don’t make a special trip to find them. It’s all okay.

I hope to see some of these in my mailbox soon. I can’t wait to start sharing them with you!

Using an email you have access to for the next five days, email Tim at   Put “Favorite Homemade cookie” in the subject line so we know you’re entering the contest. In the email, tell me your favorite homemade cookie! (You can also share it here. Bonus points for a picture!–which actually get you nothing except the chance to brag about your baking skills.) One entry per household please.

I will cut off entries at midnight, PST on Wednesday, April 8. I will announce the winner on Thursday morning, AND email them back for the address where they want me to mail the ARC to as well as find out if and how they want me to sign it.  Winners will have until that 3/10 Friday midnight to get back to me to claim the ARC and tell me their mailing address. e-book price drop, on one of my Hollows favorites!

[image error]We are getting closer to AMERICAN DEMON’s release, and things are really starting to pop! I’ve seen the actual, real cover, and man, ACE is doing it up amazingly. The cover just feels substantial, and the spine is pretty thick.

If you are planning on re-reading the series before AMERICAN DEMON, there is still time. The read-a-long over at — Goodreads — has moved up to PALE DEMON, but all the folders are there and running if you want to dive in now and start at DEAD WITCH WALKING.

But for the next few days, Harper has okayed a short-lived price reduction for the e-book. Take advantage of it! It won’t last long, and it’s a nice way to round out your e-library and give your paperbacks a rest.

December 21, 2019

‘Twas the week before Christmas, and up in the Hollows . . .

‘Twas the week before Christmas, and up in the Hollows,

Solstice bonfires were burning, to toast the marshmallows.

The pixies were snug in their stump, even Jenks,

Who claimed he was tired, and needed some winks.

So I in my parka, and Ivy in her boots,

Were toasting the season, with thirty-year hooch.

When out in the street, there came such a crash,

I thought that it had to be ‘coons in our trash.

Away to the gate, I trudged through the snow,

While Ivy just said, “If it’s Kist, say hello.”

I lifted the latch, and peered to the street,

My face went quite cold.  We were in it thigh deep.

‘Twas a demon, who stood in the headlamps quite bright,

With his coat of green velvet, and his uncommon height.

His eyes, how they glittered, his teeth how they gnashed,

His voice, how he bellowed, his tongue, how it lashed.

The street wasn’t holy, so on Big Al came,

As he bellowed, and shouted, and called me by name.

“Morgan, you witch.  You’re a pain in my side.

“Get out of your church.  There’s no place to hide!”

Like hell’s fury unleashed, he strode to my door,

Where he hammered and cursed, like a cheap jilted whore.

But Ivy and I, we circled round back,

To stand in the street and prepare for attack.

“You loser,” I shouted.  “I’m waiting for you.”

And the demon, he spun, taking on a red hue.

Ivy stood ready, and I whispered, “Okay . . .

“If he wants to get rough, I’m ready to play.”

With nary a word, us two girls got to work,

Putting foot into gut, of the soul-sucking jerk.

I circled him quick, with a few words of Latin,

While Ivy distracted him with lots of good wackin’

“Get back!” I yelled out when my trap was complete,

And Ivy somersaulted right over the creep.

My circle sprang up, entrapping him surely,

Al fussed and he fumed, like a demonic fury.

The neighbors all cheered, and came out of their houses,

Where they’d watched the whole thing, like little house mouses.

So Ivy and I, we both bowed real low,

Then banished Big Al, in an overdone show.

But I heard Al exclaim, ‘ere he poofed from our sight

“You won this time witch, but I’ll get you one night!”
