Two stalker-assassins
Born within five years of each other, these two stalker-assassins were on a mission. Their goal? Assassinate a president.
Arthur Bremer set out to kill President Richard Nixon. John Hinckley, Jr. tried to assassinate President Ronald Reagan. Both men failed. But their actions severely impacted many lives, and their behaviors were eerily similar.

The Boston Strangler? Maybe ...
Some compared him to Jack the Ripper, but the Ripper's victims were prostitutes. The Strangler killed ordinary women and he didn't stab them, he raped and strangled them. The reign of terror began in June 1962. Over the next 19 months, thirteen unmarried women, the youngest 19, the oldest 85, were murdered in Boston and nearby cities.
But after the 13th strangling in January 1964, no more murders. Later that year, in an unrelated incident, police arrested Albert DeSalvo for sexual assault. He was not on their list of Strangler suspects. But in 1965, while incarcerated in a state hospital for a mental evaluation, DeSalvo confessed that he was the Boston Strangler. But was he?

I murdered my family
Laura Stone-Mortimer, Thomas Mortimer IV, and their two young children lived with Laura's mother, Ellen Stone, in Winchester, MA, a suburb of Boston. The Stone women were very close. Laura's sister, Debra Stone, spoke by phone with Laura and her mother often, sometimes daily.
On Monday evening, June 14, 2010, Debra spoke with her sister and mother. But when she called Laura's cell phone the next day, to her surprise Thomas answered. "It's going to be a while before she can get back to you," he said.
Unable to reach Laura or her mother, on Wednesday, June 16, Debra went to their home and found the door locked. She looked through a window and saw blood.

Hate + Guns = Dead People
I waited a while after the massacre in the Colorado movie theater to write a post about it. I thought things would die down. But the mass murders haven't stopped. Since that day (July 20, 2012) three more shootings happened in August. There will probably be more. Why?
Since the theater massacre, firearms sales are booming. During the first four days after the shooting, gun dealers in Colorado, submitted 3,647 requests for state background checks. And that's just Colorado.

You're The One That I Want!
The title song of Olivia Newton-John's album Physical was the #1 hit on the billboard charts in 1981. But that brought her little comfort. Two deadly stalkers were after her. One man once killed a dog and sent its teeth to another celebrity.
In 1978 Olivia had starred with John Travolta in the blockbuster hit movie, Grease. Two songs from the film became huge hits: Hopelessly Devoted To You, and You're The One That I Want.
And Ralph Nau decided Olivia was the one that he wanted ... to kill.

Guardian angel or serial killer?
In 1984 Kristen Strickland enrolled in Bridgewater (MA) State College as a pre-med major. Bright and attractive, she never lacked for boyfriends. In 1986 she met Glenn Gilbert and transferred to a college in western Massachusetts to be closer to him. They married in 1988. Later that year, Kristen earned a nursing diploma from Greenfield Community College.
In March 1989 she got a job at the Leeds VA Medical Center in Massachusetts. Her co-workers were impressed with her nursing skills and dedication. Her supervisors rated her work as "highly skillful" and said she reacted especially well during medical emergencies. Or so it seemed.
But soon an alarming number of patients began dying on Ward C during Kristen's shift. Read MORE at

Vibrators and Sex!
A new movie just came out and it's causing quite a buzz. HYSTERIA features some frustrated Victorian women. Anytime you see "women" and "hysteria" in the same sentence, it has to be about sex. This post is explicit, so consider yourself warned.
Back in the 1880s a London physician, Dr. Joseph Mortimer Granville, invented the electric vibrator. Who knew? In Victorian England, it was okay for men to have orgasms, but women? Not so much.
In the 19th Century, scientists and doctors believed a woman's "affliction of the nervous system" stemmed from a disorder of the uterus, which they called "hysteria." So when people began to see upper-class women emerging from Dr. Granville's office flushed with excitement and joy, they started wondering what was going on in there.

Dimwit criminals
Okay, folks, my last Renzi Rant was pretty ugly, and I don't want you to think I don't have a sense of humor, so for this one I decided to lighten up. This may come as a surprise to you, but a lot of criminals do really stupid things. You've heard of stupid pet tricks? Criminals are worse. Hey, if they were smart they'd be making big bucks on Wall Street. Here's a couple of samples: Take my baby, please
Tanya wanted a gun. Why? Who knows, but I'm guessing it wasn't to shoot varmints in her backyard in Mesa, Arizona. Arizona gun laws are pretty loose, but convicted felons can't buy guns. And Tanya, age 33, couldn't buy a gun. But she had a 2-year old daughter. So she came up with a plan

The Perfect Family?
Karen and Richard Sharpe lived in the town of Gloucester, Massachusetts. To the neighbors, they seemed like the perfect couple. They had been married for 27 years and had three children. A dermatologist, Richard taught at Harvard Medical School and his medical practice and other businesses earned him millions of dollars.
But behind the happy facade, bizarre behavior haunted the Sharpe household. For years, Richard had led a secret life. He was a cross-dresser who loved wearing slinky dresses, fishnet stockings and makeup. He took female hormones and stole his wife's birth control pills to make his breasts larger.
In 1999 when Karen told him she wanted a divorce, Richard became enraged and stabbed her in the face with a fork. Fearing for her life, Karen, 44, fled with their two youngest children and obtained a restraining order against him. It did her no good.
