BLUE SNEAK PEEK

by K Nilsson

Devyn Foster looked out the window lazily sipping her latte.  The abstract paintings, chosen by the designer, were the only source of color on the neutral walls.  No expense was spared for the luxurious office because this was where she met with clients.

“V, hold my calls.  I’m taking a lunch break.” Instantly, she regretted sounding a little bossy.

But, Devyn wallowed in the disappointment of the past weekend, the lost opportunity of going home with a man who caught her attention at a new haunt.  He wasn’t the most handsome man she’d ever seen, but he was intriguing, had the demeanor of a dominant, a self-assured alpha male; his broad chest and thick thighs suggested he was athletic.  The dark-rimmed glasses made him look like a Ralph Lauren model dressed in a simple black tee shirt and jeans.  But the guy was infuriating; he didn’t even give her the time of day, no matter how much she tried to get his attention, not even when she taunted him.  Devyn left the bar angry and dejected.  The frustration followed her home and lingered.  She couldn’t get him out of her mind.

Wetness pooled in her panties as she pictured him in her mind’s eye, teasing herself for hours at a time.  He’d pushed her up against the bathroom wall in the bar, holding her by the throat with one hand, fingering her clit with the other, while he rode her from behind.

Devyn pulled out a protein drink and a packet of crackers from her desk.  She took lunch in private avoiding distractions and unnecessary gossip.  Office politics threatened promising careers.   She knew it was foolish to troll.  She considered traveling to the next town over on weekends, but even that, exposed her to being found out, labeled a slut, and worse.  She would be in violation of the company’s morality clause.  It would be incredibly humiliating to be outed and fired.  There was also the possibility of being blackballed.  The mere whisper of impropriety would be a nightmare.  She was aware that being the only female executive at the firm made her an object of interest, prey to misogynists.

Her mind wandered back to the bar, to him.  His eyes were brown and brooding as they glinted her way.  She was very attracted to him.  He was dark, dangerous, and distant.  Devyn was well-aware she was eye-fucking him, even while he ordered his drink, a seven and seven, running his long fingers through the tousled hair, choppy and chestnut.  Extending his muscle-roped, tattoo-laced, arm to reach for his drink, she wished he’d reach for her hair to pet or pull it.  Devyn would be okay with it either way.

But when an idiot sidled up to her at the bar and put his hand on her ass as if he owned it, she dressed him down and insulted his manhood while she was at it.

Maybe, she shouldn’t have shamed the idiot so loudly, but the handsy guy just lost his chance when he blocked her view of dark and dangerous.  Maybe, she left a bad impression.

Putting her doubts aside, Devyn made a mental list of his attributes, hoping she’d get another chance, wondering if she could catch his attention next time.

What was she doing thinking about him at work!

Finally, the caffeine kicked in, and real life intruded.  There were emails to send and phone calls to return.

Review BLAI2E: Part 2 – Anita Gray

There are only a handful of characters that I’d cry for, Blaire is one of them.

In Blaire, Anita Gray wrote a compelling character.

In Part 1, Blaire was an innocent, robotic-like, trained-killer.  She seemed a shell-shocked, Stockholm-syndrome survivor, raised emotionally stunted. When she was treated with kindness and regard by Charlie, she began to feel emotion, and that’s when her pain started.  Her background is mysterious and had nefarious beginnings. She has no memories. The book ended on a cliffhanger. My review of Part 1 here.

In Part 2, Not only does Blaire wake up in physical pain, then the ravages of emotional distress eat her up alive. Blaire made me want to hold her, tell her everything would be okay, that her love isn’t misplaced.  Betrayals hurt, and disappointment can do so much damage to a person who has little experience in dealing with the fallout.  Maybe, she would have been better off emotionally numb.  I think I need a hug now.  *pass the box of tissues, please.  *sniff* . Anita Gray, Blaire needs to win, in a big way.  I can only hope the win will balance the heartache.

Damsels in distress, badass bitches, anti-hero, and bi-on-the-side, the hero saves the day

5 Stars!!!  Climax, the final installment of Enthrall was an exciting read. It had a very satisfying ending to a fabulous series that I have read at least twice.

Our star-crossed lovers had to avert booby traps and dodge monkey-wrenches. There were betrayals and misplaced concerns. I practically flew through the book. Just when I thought some hurdles resolved, more popped up. The odds were against the couple reaching the altar. At one critical point, their plight reminded me of an unwinnable wack-a-mole game.

The cast spanned three continents. There were damsels in distress and bad-news-bitches, an anti-hero, a bi on the side, and an unexpected love match. The HEA that brought tears to my eyes.

CD REISS FBI agent falls for hacker. Whole new code. Sparks fly.

Prince CharmingPrince Charming by C.D. Reiss

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

4.5 Stars! FBI crimes stopper and criminal hacker find common ground. Sparks fly.

Following on the heels of her groundbreaking book, King of Code, one of the supporting characters, Keaton Bridge, a hacker who is even more secretive than Taylor Harden, has his own story.

FBI Agent Cassie Grinstead whose specialty is tracking hackers on the darknet has Keaton Bridge in her crosshairs and her aim is to take him down and earn a promotion. The trouble is she doesn’t want to upset their mutual chemistry. They were attracted to each other like a magnet to a nail.

Keaton and Cassie each have secrets, one more dangerous than the other. Thanks to a couple of well placed Easter eggs, the story wasn’t just another romance. Theirs was high-stakes, that took no prisoners.

Her creative mastery of contrasts and metaphors are reason enough to immerse yourself in the story. I love the way she peels off layers of the characters like the skin on an onion.

For me, it was a satisfying read to kick off the new year. I look forward to more.

Trinity Caly’s Game 3.5 stars I wanted to like it.

Caly's GameCaly’s Game by Trinity_

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

3.5 stars

I wanted to like this. The book had potential. But sadly, I couldn’t get into it.

The reviews were positive. Trinity’s Bio was interesting. The blurb was different, a tongue in cheek style of writing which was consistent throughout the book. She is knowledgeable about the BDSM activities. The sex vignettes were hot, but I could read scenes like that on Literotica.

What I read was ballsy, “fat” woman attorney with no personality; pre-occupied with body image. The main character was one dimensional and boring.

About the body image issue, okay it’s a BBW, but why should it be elevated to a thing? On the other hand, considering the bdsm activities involved nudity, I can understand mentioning it once, maybe twice tops.

There was a lack of chemistry between the characters. I wish the author would have added Evan’s pov to the story. The author had written roughshod over how Caly went from headstrong fat chick to a besotted submissive. Maybe she could have focused a little more on Caly’s emotional growth and less on how she felt about her body.
