Ream, Smashwords, and Kobo Plus

Happy Friday, Merfolk! I have a few updates for you on this gorgeous Friday, so let’s get to it!

First, I’m hard at work drafting StO2: See The Depths! If you’ve finished StO, you probably have some idea of what that means. And if you’re excited to get a sneak peek at book two, head on over to Ream, where you can read the first chapter now, and subscribe to read the rest as I write it! As of today, we’re up to Chapter 12, and have even had a couple chapters from Jen’s POV 🙂

Second, Speak The Ocean is on sale 50% at Smashwords for the entire month of July, as part of their annual Summer/Winter sale! That’s only $2.49 for an entire book about murderous mermaids and sexy times with the worlds most basic bitch, Finn Jarvis 😉 (my favorite one star review called Finn a basic bitch, and you know what? I love it)

Third, if you’re a Kobo Plus subscriber looking for your next great scifi or fantasy read, I have 200+ suggestions! I’ve teamed up with a group of other indie authors to cross promote our books. I’ve already seen a couple of really promising mermaid reads in the stack: check out Finding Their Mermaid by Cali Mann or The Mer King by Cecily Ann Winters! The promo goes until mid-August, so be sure to check the link as many times as you need to for that tbr!

Have a great weekend, Merfolk!

Signed Books Are Here!

Happy Independent Bookstore Day, Aledan Merfolk! I have great news, because the books I ordered to sell as signed copies finally arrived, which makes me an official Indie Bookstore (of one book) today!

If you’ve been waiting for your chance to buy a signed copy of StO, you can grab it HERE. Don’t forget to put which color pen you’d like me to sign with in the Notes section! Each purchase also comes with a free bookmark and sticker as well ^_^

Don’t need a signed copy, but want to buy direct from me? You can do that here! (Unsigned copies print straight from BookVault and do not come with stickers or bookmarks)

StO Stickers free with purchase of a signed book!

StO2 Posting Has Begun!

Happy Friday, Aledan Merfolk!

A mockup of See The Depths cover. This is NOT the official cover art!

It’s been a couple weeks since Speak The Ocean was published, and now that folks have had a chance to read the first book, it’s time to start posting See The Depths over on my Ream! (like Patreon specifically for authors) The first chapter is going to be free, but every chapter after that will be for subscribers only.

If you haven’t finished reading Speak The Ocean yet, please don’t read the first chapter of See The Depths! It starts immediately after StO and contains MASSIVE spoilers!

Also, while StO was a fully edited novel, See The Depths is still a working draft. Which means it won’t be quite up to the same level of awesomeness that StO is, but it also means that suggestions are highly welcome. If something feels off, please let me know. If a section needs more description, note it (I usually do a pass just for description later in the editing process, because I’m a dialogue gal). If you hate a new character’s name, or see a note like “FISH NAME”, please suggest a new one! I hate coming up with names 😛

I’m going to try to keep a schedule of one chapter a week on Fridays. I’ve written ahead a bit, so I think this will be doable. And as before, if you subscribe at the Merfolk or Pod level, you’ll get a free copy of the ebook or print book when it’s available!

Have a great weekend, and I hope you enjoy See The Depths 🙂

P.S. if you’re waiting for signed print books, they should be ready next week! They’ve printed, I’m just waiting for them to ship 🙂

Speak The Ocean’s Re-Debut Day!

Happy Tuesday, Merfolk! Today is the day Speak The Ocean is back on shelves as a self-published indie novel! You can find it as an ebook or print book in your favorite stores*, buy an unsigned copy direct from me, or ask your local library to carry it! And if you want a signed copy, I’ll have those once I return from the Mermaid Festival in Aberdeen, WA this weekend!

It’s been a long, wild ride, from getting an agent and publisher, to getting my rights reverted back to me, to deciding to put it back out myself. I read A LOT of information about self-publishing, and asked a lot of questions, because I wanted to do it right. (And then I still screwed up formatting in multiple ways, but I fixed it all! Self-publishing is not for the faint of heart)

All said, I’m really proud of the work I’ve put into this book. I’m grateful for everyone who took a chance on it back in 2019, and I’m grateful to everyone who is excited to read it now!

I’m also so thankful that I have a chance to use my murderous mermaids to show people that forcing captive orcas and dolphins to perform for audiences is wrong. Only five days ago, Inouk passed away after 25 years of captivity in France. Last year, Tokitae, who was caught only a few miles from my current home, died after 53 years of captivity in Miami. Her mother still swims free in the waters surrounding my home. Since the original publication of StO five years ago, sixteen orcas have died in captivity, many of them forced to perform for over ten years. At least 56 orcas still remain in captivity worldwide, including 18 at Sea World parks in the United States.

So while today is a celebration, it’s also a reminder that there’s still work to be done. Grab a copy of Speak the Ocean, and then learn more about Whale and Dolphin Conservation, and what you can do to help!

Last but not least, come back on Friday for a sneak peek of StO2: See The Depths! But only if you’ve finished reading the first book, because there are massive spoilers 😉

*There’s a third-party version of StO showing on Amazon for a ridiculous price. Please don’t buy that overpriced book! The print price is $17.99, and anyone who charges more than that is not affiliated with me!

One Week! (and Print Book preorders!)

ONE WEEK UNTIL STO!! I am so excited to have this book back out in the world! And I’m happy to say that the print book preorders are ready to go! So, where can you buy copies of Speak The Ocean?

The new StO Bookmark!

Get it from your favorite indie bookstore through Bookshop.org

You can find it on Barnes & Noble

Of course there’s always Amazon (a little hint: I can’t do preorders on Amazon, so if you purchase it there, you’ll get it a few days early 😉 )

You can get signed copies at the Aberdeen Mermaid Festival on April 6th and 7th!

And last but not least, you’ll be able to buy signed copies directly from my website once I return from the Festival! All direct sales will come with a bookmark and sticker as well 🙂

If you’re a fan of ebooks, you can find the preorder links to all the big ebook retailers on my Universal Link (another hint: if you buy the ebook at Smashwords, you can start reading it immediately)

And as always, you can read the entire book on Ream! Anyone who subscribes before the end of the month gets locked in to their lower price when I raise prices next month and begin posting sneak peeks of StO2: See The Depths!

Have a great week, Merfolk!

Speak The Ocean Cover Reveal! (and preorder links!)

Happy Tuesday Merfolk! We are exactly three weeks out from the relaunch of Speak The Ocean, and I have been super busy in the background getting everything ready for publication and the Aberdeen Mermaid Festival. For instance, look at this amazing website makeover! I loved the purrmaid and bright colors that used to be the focus of the website, but the book is a bit dark, and I wanted a theme to match. Plus, the zoom in on the book cover background is full of bubbles, which play a big part in one of the darkest scenes of the book.

Speaking of the book cover…would you like to see it? I am blown away by how much the gold on dark teal pops, and the paperback even has a pop of magenta with those jellyfish! I worked with amazing cover designer Cait Greer, who guided me through the process since this is the first time I’ve had to get a cover made myself (and it’s a lot more than just “decided what colors you want”). If you’re looking for a graphic designer, I cannot recommend Cait highly enough!

Isn’t it gorgeous? I love the claw-like font and the voice-stealing sea shells <3 (for those of you not completely obsessed with The Little Mermaid, those big shells are the same as the necklace Ursula wears, that she keeps Ariel’s stolen voice in) And the jellyfish! We tried to get them on the front cover, but it just wasn’t working out, so when Cait recommended adding them to the back I was so excited. And they turned out great 😀

Can’t wait to get your hands on your own copy? You can pre-order the ebook edition RIGHT NOW! Follow the universal book link to all your favorite shops, including Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Apple Books, Google Books, Smashwords, Kobo, and others!

Want the paperback instead? I should have the proof copies in a couple of days and can approve them on all retailers. I’ll let you know as soon as they’re ready. If you don’t want to miss the announcement, please sign up for my newsletter or follow me on Ream!

Have a great week, Merfolk, and I hope to see you in Aberdeen on the 6th and 7th!

Let’s Dive In!

Happy Warrior’s Ceremony, Aledan Merfolk! On Monday I told you all about my plans to get Speak The Ocean back into your hands, and today that process begins with Ream, the social book subscription platform! Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday I’ll be posting a chapter of Speak The Ocean (the first four chapters are already up to get you started). You can read along, chat with others about [insert plot twists here], and get early sneak peeks at new projects and cover reveals!

Right now you can follow along to see if you’re interested, or you can choose from one of three subscription levels. Each level comes with it’s own perks, including early access to the book, your name in the acknowledgements, and even finished e-book or signed paperback copies!

You can check it out here: Rebecca Enzor on Ream

I hope to see you there soon!

Swimming Through New Waters

Well, Aledan Merfolk, it’s been a while hasn’t it? I feel like I’ve done nothing but swim through new waters for the past few years, moving from one side of the country to the other. And now I’m swimming through new publishing waters too, because I’ve decided to self-publish Speak The Ocean! I’ve spent the last few months learning as much as I can about the self-publishing process, and all of the different ways to self-publish, and I’ve made some decisions I wanted to share.

First, StO will officially be re-debuting in paperback and e-book at the International Mermaid Museum MERMAID FESTIVAL on April 6th! The Festival is on the Pacific coast in Aberdeen, Washington, and is free to attend! I’ll be there signing books on the 6th and 7th, so if you’re in the area, please stop by and say Hi. I’ll be selling new copies, and I’d be happy to sign an old copy for you. I’ll also have swag – because what’s a book debut without swag? I hope to see you there

The old StO cover is becoming something new! What'll it be? I'll show you soon!

I’m still working on the cover redesign, but I’ll show it off when I have it ready. I’m also working on Book Two (tentatively titled See The Depths), and have plans for some sneak peeks. But I know not everyone was able to get a copy of StO when it was originally published, and since I don’t want to spoil the ending with sneak peeks, I’m also giving folks a chance to read StO before it re-debuts!

Starting on Weds, October 4th (why yes, you may recognize this as the Warrior’s Ceremony in Fie Eoin, aka, my birthday ) I’ll be posting a chapter of StO three times a week on Ream! Haven’t heard of Ream? It’s a subscription service by authors for authors! As Twitter dies, and the bookish community with it, I’ve been searching for new places to gather community, and as a social e-reader, Ream was made for that. You can read chapters and discuss them both with myself and with other folks who are reading along. If you want to cheer on a character for…I don’t know, drowning someone who deserves it perhaps…you can do that! If you want to yell at me for drowning someone who doesn’t deserve it, you can do that too!

Since I’ll be publishing the book in April, I can’t just give it away for free, but I plan to have different tiers that come with different perks. For $3 a month you can read the entire book as it’s posted, and at the pace I’ll be posting, you’ll get the whole thing for the same price as a paperback+shipping. For $5 a month, you’ll get a free ebook copy at the end, and for $10 a month you’ll get a personalized paperback! And when StO is finished, it’ll be time to start Book Two, doing the same with a chapter three times a week, and finished books at the end (and then Book Three, tentatively titled Breathe The Air, and if you can’t guess a major plot point of the book from the title alone, well…you’re gonna want to read StO )

Eventually I plan to post the rest of the Nameless Warrior series in the same way, although the first book will always remain free on Wattpad and Royal Road.

So that is my big news! StO is returning in more than one way! I’ll be back with more information (and a new cover!) as I have it, and I’ll be sure to post the direct link to StO on Ream on Weds (it’s not live yet, so no link). I hope you’ve all had a wonderful summer, time for murderous mermaid fall >: )

The Nameless Warrior Is Finished!

Happy Friday, Aledans! I know a lot of you have been listening to me talk about Fie Eoin for years now, and hopefully you saw the announcement that I was publishing it for free on , , and , but I’m here to tell you that after fifteen months it’s finished! “The End” was posted last week, and I took a little break to let it sink in. But now I’m here to let you know that if you were waiting for the entire book to be posted before you started reading, now’s your time!

As for what’s next: I’m deciding if I want to try learning book formatting so I can make it into an actual book shape or not. If I do, it won’t be free, but it will be cheap. The point of taking FE this route was not to make money (lol, I’ve learned my lesson trying to make money publishing), but if I’m gonna learn yet another book-shaped process, I’m gonna charge a few pennies for it.

Speaking of charging a few pennies, I’ve opened back up to editing services! If you need a query, synopsis, or first pages critique, I’m your gal. Head on over to the Editing Services page, or email me directly, and we’ll get to work 🙂

As for what’s next book-wise, I’ve already started working on FE2, which is tentatively called THE DAUGHTER OF EOIN. While Kindra and Kaye are a part of the book, it focuses on Kindra’s twins: Karigan and Andric. If you’ve been around for a while, I know you’ve seen bits and pieces of Kari, because she is one of my favorite characters to write ever. My girl is messy and full of heart. If you liked Kindra, you’re gonna love her daughter 🙂

Before that, though, I plan to post Aleda’s Story (which you’ve already read if you’ve been around the blog for a while). And maybe Faye and Tarrin (which you haven’t read the whole of, because I never finished writing it). I also have a little Monk short story in my head to explain how he gets from Nameless to Daughter, because there’s a lot of changes coming in Monk’s world. Plus he’s just fun to write!

So stick around! I’ll update you when any of the above happens, and until then, I hope you enjoy/enjoyed The Nameless Warrior 🙂

Page Critiques Now Available!

Happy Tuesday, Aledan Merfolk! You may have seen my announcements on Twitter and Facebook, but in case you missed it, I wanted to share with you the exciting news that I’ve opened up to page critiques as well as query and synopsis critiques! If you head over to my Editing Services page, you’ll see the new 1-Page, 5-Page and 10-Page critique options, and if you’re looking for something more, you can email me for a quote and timeline.

In other news, I’m chugging away on The Nameless Warrior, posting it twice a week on , , and Patreon. You can find it for free on each of those websites, and for $1 a month, you can also read the scenes earlier than everyone else on Patreon! If you subscribe now, you’ll pay about as much as a paperback to read the entire book early.

The Nameless Warrior Cover

And finally, I know you can’t currently find Speak The Ocean on shelves, but I’m still trying to decide what to do with it after getting my rights back. I’m looking into a few options, and I’ll let you know as soon as I have news about how I’m getting the book back out there!

I hope you’re having a wonderful week, and I’ll be back again to update you soon!
