New Youtube Video: Vlog: The Vietnam War Traveling Memorial Wall

Today I am changing it up. While this is a vlog, it’s not part two of my classroom tear down. We recently had the Vietnam War Traveling Memorial Wall in town and I thought I would share that with you. You will also see some footage from this event in part two of my classroom tear down.
This is a very difficult time period in my community as we were hit hard by the Vietnam War. My own village has the highest casualty rate per captia in the United States and the county has one of the worst casualty rates in the country as well. It’s not unusual to have multiple students in a class who have lost someone in the Vietnam War.

Hermine: An Empress in Exile: The Untold Story of the Kaiser's Second Wife
Hermine Reuss of Greiz is perhaps better known as the second wife of the Kaiser (Emperor Wilhelm II of Germany) whom she married shortly after the death of his first wife Auguste Viktoria and while he was in exile in the Netherlands. She was by then a widow herself with young children. She was known to be ambitious about wanting to return to power, and her husband insisted on her being called 'Empress'. To achieve her goal, she turned to the most powerful man in Germany at the time, Adolf Hitler. Unfortunately, her dream was not realised as Hitler refused to restore the monarchy and with the death of Wilhelm in 1941, Hermine was forced to return to her first husband's lands. Summary:
Kindergarten-Grade 2?Alfie's mother is trying to settle him down for his winter's sleep. She tells her little bear that when he wakes up, it will be spring. He asks, "And how will I know when it's here?" Mother Bear's answer is, "When the butterflies float by looking for new flowers." The cub wakes up early, mistakes snowflakes for butterflies, and wakes up his mother to show her. She explains that it is still winter, and then tells him of another sign of spring. Alfie continues to misread the wintry scenes until the anticipated season finally arrives. The story is charmingly told and Alfie exhibits all of the enthusiasm of an overly eager young child. Walters's soft, appealing illustrations range from large landscapes to small vignettes of a restless Alfie trying to settle down to sleep. The cleanly designed double-page spreads in season-appropriate colors will catch the eyes of young listeners during storyhour.
