I Love This Number: 7-17-17

Hell Hath No Fury is set to release on 7-17-17
Great date, right?
I figured, what with the title and all, at least we avoided 6-6-16 right?
My amazing publisher, Blue Tulip, has chosen what I think will be the HOTTEST day of the year to release Hell Hath No Fury.
I like it.
Blue Tulip is a new publisher and they have been AMAZING to work with. Ever heard of Rachel Van Dyken? And Kristen Vayden? They got together with some other people and Rachel’s business guru husband and are working with a limited number of new authors. They have shown a commitment to doing everything they can to ensure that we succeed. I LOVE working with this company.

And, in addition to that...
They liked my book.
People who like my book earn my undying affection.

Happy READING!

3 Weeks Until Release

It seems like I've waited a lifetime for this! No, really, I'm not exaggerating. It all started by sitting down and writing a single word, a page, a chapter. And then I finished one book and wrote another–and another.

Hell Hath No Fury is the 4th book I've written. Since then, I've written 3 more. Each book is like a garden. I go back to them over and over again to clean and prune, maybe plant something new. In my mind, perhaps, they are never really complete.

And now (well, in 3 weeks) my baby is all grown up and going out into the world. Thank you for your support and I hope with all my heart that my books bring you even a small amount of pleasure for years to come!

How a series is born

Hell Hath No Fury was never meant to become a book, let alone a series. I'd been struggling with the first chapters of my books... inserting too much back story, and I decided to play with the idea of writing an intriguing first chapter – not worrying about the rest of the book at all.

So I sat down and just let my juices start flowing... Hmmm.. A girl, of course, how about a girl who is drinking too much? I've never read a regency that started out that way? And how about I make her angry? Very Angry! Why is she angry? Well, she's been betrayed! By who? And the story just kind of rolled along from there.

It only took me three weeks to write the rest of the book. (My other books have all taken about 6 weeks.) It was weird how the story just developed on it's own...

I wrote the book in the summer of 2015. The agent I was attempting to land read through it and said she loved it but not enough to try to sell it... I later learned she'd basically stopped taking on new romance authors. At this point I still don't have an agent and I'm not sure I'll go after one... I'm learning so much about publishing right now!

I wrote the second book in this series last December (2016) and am prepping it to send in to Blue Tulip Publishing as we speak. It's present title is Hell in a Handbasket: Sophia's story.

Harold is not all that he seems and Sophia has a rocky road ahead! I can't wait to begin working on the cover and hopefully this will release around Thanksgiving sometime! Meanwhile, I'll keep all of you posted as to all that I'm up to! Thanks for reading! Ya gotta love a happy ending, right?

Cover Antics

COVER ANTICS!

Hell Hath No Fury is the first of my books to be published and so I wanted to share a bit of the process with my FACEBOOK family, friends and readers!

Aside from receiving an offer from a publisher, one of the most exciting steps in the publishing process is designing the cover!

Lucky me!

I got to work with amazing graphic/cover artist, Jena Brignola - you may not realize it, but her artwork can be found on books everywhere. She was sweet and fun and sooooo easy to work with!

Not to disillusion you all, but we did NOT audition models and then contract a spectacular photo shoot… Instead, the first step was to select an image from a stock photo website… which, I’ll admit, was pretty stressful in itself. Stressful, you ask? Absolutely! This was going to be the face of my BABY! LOL

So you have all seen my finished cover, right? I wanted Cecily to be in the water, wet, in an elegant dress… (taken from one of the scenes in the story). But instead of the actual scene in the story, I wanted her to be with Stephen… a swoon worthy and gorgeous gentleman!

I must say, there are not many images on stock websites that meet this criteria.

I came across an image, though, with a girl, looking fiesta and more than a little satisfied with herself, as she embraced the man of her dreams.

Except she was a bride and the photo had a decidedly modern look to it.

So, Jena worked a little magic, changed the dress to red, and played with a few other details to achieve a more timeless image.

Still, though, Nate (Blue Tulip Editor in Chief) and Rachel Van Dyken (world famous Romance Novelista) thought the image wasn’t “Regency” enough.

They had a point.

Jena added puffed sleeves to Cecily’s dress and played with the colors.

It was perfect.

I know it doesn’t look like a traditional regency romance novel, but the story itself is just a tad different than most… it has some comedy, and a delicious twist on karma and betrayal…so… yes, a little different, but to me… it was perfect.

I hope you like the cover… it really is something from my own imagination, created and improved upon by a few experts. But even more importantly, I hope you LOVE the book! Happy Reading!

Edits and Rewrites

POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT! For Hell Hath No Fury…

Necessary evils one must co-exist with as a writer.

Except that, sometimes, it’s during those excruciating rewrites and edits, that characters and plots gain the dimension and depth that cause them to be intriguing to the reader.

While executing what was supposed to be the last edit on HELL HATH NO FURY, I thought something was missing from the Snake incident… like. I mean, why an adder?

I don’t know a great deal about snakes, but even I KNEW that the adder would most likely NOT kill a person… So, WHY DID I make the snake an adder? Well, so that it would not actually KILL Cecily when it bit her, right?

But the attempted murderer WANTED to KILL Cecily… so why did THEY choose to put an adder in her bed?

AHA! The person who CHOSE the Adder, the person assigned to procure a snake for the deed didn’t really WANT for Cecily to DIE!

All of this came to me in the FINAL EDIT! LOL… BTW, my editor made me do one more run through after that… I’d added so many little rewrites…

Anyhow, I think that those last minute changes put the cherry on top for that character. It made him more interesting, more like how people REALLY are.

So, even though I whine and cry and complain about editing and rewrites… They always bring the book up another notch… And that is ALWAYS a good thing.

Hope I haven’t spoiled anything for any of you!

Happy Reading!
