Most of my writing is inspired by the need for a greater understanding of the circumstances of my life: the family I was born into and their circumstances, the chain of events leading from childhood through teenage years on up to and through adulthood, however small, nuanced or significant. Making sense of all of this is like solving a grand mystery in and of itself, probably important only to me, but hopefully told in ways that others can identify with and appreciate.(less)

But, I do have a couple of books I am anxious to dive into soon: The Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann and You Can't Go Home Again by Thomas Wolfe. I also like to thumb through Grace Paley's poetry time and again.(less)

You can feel the pulse of the city, the desperation of the Great Depression, the conflicting emotions of the characters.
