Author Spotlight: Max Gunssler

I'd like to introduce you to a new writer who I am sure you will love. Max Gunssler is the pseudonym of a prolific and well-known blogger of B movies, grindhouse cinema, and sexploitation films. His blog covers the whole gamut of exploitation cinema, from American, to European, to Asian, from the classics of the sixties and seventies, all the way up to current present-day releases.

Gunssler's books, rather than being influenced by the literature of the past or present, are entirely inspired by the author's vast knowledge of, and appreciation for exploitation cinema. These are some of the wildest, craziest, most outrageous books you will ever read. They're way more sexually explicit than any of mine, and you all know how explicit I get. They are also laugh-out-loud funny, full of insane plot twists, and just oh-so-fun to read.

The two books that I think will be most of interest to you all are The Tentacled Invasion and Gunvor: The Space Babe. The Tentacled Invasion involves a crew of about five hundred nymphomaniac space-babe pirates. When their spaceship, the Fort Sumter, is attacked by a giant tentacled creature, the space-babes must defend themselves or become impregnated with alien spawn. Gunvor: The Space Babe deals with the exploits and adventures of a space-babe bounty hunter named Gunvor, who hunts down barbarian rapists as she herself is hunted by a barbarian king.

Both books are only 99 cents on Kindle and the paperbacks are super-cheap as well.

Max Gunssler's latest book, Love Slave of the Vampires, just came out the other day. I haven't had time to read it yet, but it looks a lot like his amazing debut novel, Bikini Babes vs Vampires.  This book is absolutely insane. It seems to be inspired by the classic erotic vampire films of Jean Rollin and Jess Franco, but while those films take their erotic elements very seriously, Bikini Babes vs Vampires is a comedy about vampires who lure Swedish bikini models to their hotel suite in order to satisfy their hunger.

All of Max's books are 99 cents and the paperbacks are very cheap too, so definitely check them out. That's about it. I am still hard at work on The Calydonian Boar Hunt, but I thought I'd take a break from writing to let you know about this exciting up-and-coming author. As always, to see all of my stuff in one place, please visit my website!

Announcing The Calydonian Boar Hunt

Thank you so much to everybody who has bought, read, reviewed, and shouted about Not Far from Eden. The response to my latest book has been so tremendous that I've decided to go back to the mythological well, but this time I'm adapting one of the great Greek myths, The Calydonian Boar Hunt.

I first became interested in this myth after seeing the famous painting by Peter Paul Rubens at the Getty Center in Los Angeles well over ten years ago. I immediately got the idea to write an adventure story based on the hunt, but I was not a writer yet, and didn't have the skills necessary to tell such a simple yet complex story, or any kind of story for that matter. But now I feel that I am approaching the height of my abilities as an author, and me telling this tale is long overdue.

In The Calydonian Boar Hunt, king Oeneus of Calydon forgets to place an offering in the shrine to Artemis, goddess of hunting. As revenge, Artemis sends a giant boar to terrorize the kingdom. The king gathers together the greatest heroes in Greece to hunt the boar, most of whom are former Argonauts, as the Argo has just returned from Jason's expedition to get the Golden Fleece. Artemis, wanting her punishment to continue, sends the huntress Atalanta to join the hunting party, knowing that the presence of a woman will create strife among the men and lead to more destruction.

For fans of the horror element in my work, The Calydonian Boar Hunt also features one of the coolest monsters in all of Greek mythology, the Calydonian boar. This monstrous killer boar has bristles as sharp as spears and impales its foes with tusks as large as an elephant's. Trust me, this is a monster you don't want to mess with, and it leaves a trail of death and destruction in its wake.

I hope to publish The Calydonian Boar Hunt in late April or early May.

So, that's about it. Thanks again for reading. I'll write again next month to let you know how The Calydonian Boar Hunt is coming along. As always, if you want to see all my books in one place, please visit my website!

January update

Happy New Year!!!

First, thank you so much to everybody who helped make 2021 such a great year for me. Thank you to everybody who bought my books, read them, reviewed them, and told your friends about them on social media. It really means a lot to me. You helped make the last year a turning point in my career as an author.

It's a new year, and over the past week I began outlining my next book. I don't want to give too much away, and anyway, the details usually change as I work on the outline and writing, but this one has something to do with a war between humanity and plant monsters.

I want to do a few things differently with this one. Most of my books are based on real things. For example, the Ebu Gogo, the creatures of the eponymous novel, really exist in folklore and cryptozoology, Ilya Ivanovich Ivanov, the villain of Jungle Jitters, was a real person who really did try to mate human beings with chimpanzees, and the story of Not Far from Eden comes from an actual myth about angels called the Watchers who rebel against God to have sex with human women, that can be found in The Book of Enoch and a few other places. Even Five Maidens on the Pentagram, which is less grounded in real things than the books mentioned above, borrows more from the mythology surrounding Satan and black magic than most people realize.

For this book, I want to try to write a story that comes entirely from my own imagination and is not based on any kind of outside source material. I also want this book to be my biggest and most epic book to date. I really want to push myself into new and exciting territory.

It usually takes me about four months to outline, write, and edit one of these, so you can expect it to hit the digital shelves mid-May. I'll give you more info on it next month when I know more. Right now, I don't even know what the book is called yet.

So that's my big January news!

Not Far from Eden is live

I am excited to announce that my new book Not Far from Eden is live on Amazon, Apple Books, Barnes & Noble, Godless, Google Play, KoboScribd, and Smashwords.

If you are international, the universal book link will take you to your country's store.

Not Far from Eden is based on an ancient and long-suppressed story about an order of angels called the Watchers, who rebel against heaven in order to have sex with human women.

If you enjoyed my other books, you are going to love this one. Not Far from Eden is a sexy dark fantasy with my usual inappropriate humor sprinkled about. Please get it today, read it, write a review, and tell all of your friends about it too!

The Scientific Basis for Jungle Jitters

A lot of people didn't catch this, I guess because I didn't advertise it properly, but my recent novel Jungle Jitters is actually based on real life.

You see, Jungle Jitters concerns a mad scientist, Ilya Ivanovich Ivanov, who wants to mate human beings with chimpanzees in order to create a hybrid species of ape men. The thing is, Ilya Ivanovich Ivanov was a real person, and his experiments actually happened pretty much as I describe them in the novel. Sure, I condensed his two trips to Africa into one trip and made other little changes like that, but such alterations are sometimes necessary for dramatic purposes when fictionalizing actual events. The point is that the experiments described in Jungle Jitters actually took place in real life.

Serge Voronoff, another mad scientist in Jungle Jitters, was also a real person, who, as in the novel, became rich and famous by performing a bizarre operation on the testicles of the wealthiest men of Paris. His collaboration with Ivanovich, in which the two attempt to implant a fertilized human egg into the womb of a female chimpanzee to see if it can serve as a surrogate mother, also happened more or less as I describe it in Jungle Jitters.

What is fictional in Jungle Jitters is that in real life Ivanovich failed to create a race of ape men, while my novel imagines what would have happened if he had succeeded, albeit only partially, and explores what the ramifications would be for us in the present day, almost one hundred years after the experiments took place.

If you want to learn more, you need to read the book! Pick up Jungle Jitters now at AMAZON, GODLESS, or ANYWHERE BOOK AND EBOOKS ARE SOLD!

Update on Watchers

I am still hard at work on my next book but wanted to take a break to give you a quick update. The book is probably going to be called Watchers, and is an erotic dramatization of a story that was once part of the bible but was later suppressed, about an order of angels called the Watchers who lust after human women, and rebel against God in order to have sex with them.

Watchers is going to have all of the subversive humor and other things that you've all come to expect from my work, but I am also making an effort to make Watchers my sexiest book to date.

My original plan was to tie the story into a revised version Expedition to Eden, but I just haven't been able to get the Eden stuff to a point where I am happy with it. I've been spending weeks on the Expedition to Eden material without making any progress, and the new material I have written is much stronger without the older stuff. In fact, I think Watchers has some of my strongest writing to date. I am really excited about it and I can't wait to share it with you.

That said, I've still gone ahead and unpublished Expedition to Eden, as it's an older book and I honestly don't think it's that great.

In other news, the eBook editions of Jungle JittersEbu Gogo, and Five Maidens on the Pentagram are still only $2.99, but I am going to raise them back up to $3.99 soon, so if you want them at a dollar off, act fast.
That's about it. My next blog post will be sometime in November when Watchers is out. This is going to be my hottest book yet, so keep a look out. Until then, thanks for reading!

Announcing my next book & last chance to get Expedition to Eden

Earlier this year when I pulled my books from Kindle Unlimited, there was one book I didn't publish wide, Expedition to Eden. The reason for this was simple: I didn't think it was good enough.

I recently started to look Expedition to Eden over again to see if there was some way I could fix it, and my imagination began to run wild with possibilities that hadn't occurred to me when I first wrote the book. I am a much better writer now than I was in January of 2020 when I published Expedition to Eden, and am capable of writing bigger, crazier, more complex, and more meaningful stories than I was in those nascent days of my career as an author.

The part of Expedition to Eden that jumped out at me was a small scene towards the end of the book involving the fallen angel Samyaza, who was the leader of the Watchers, an order of angels that rebelled against God in order to have sex with human women. I was inspired to read about Samyaza and the Watchers in the dead sea scrolls and other apocryphal texts, and the result, I hope, will be a story about fallen angels that is just as well researched as the scientific elements are in my novels Ebu Gogo and Jungle Jitters

All that having been said, along with all the new stuff I am writing, most of the material in Expedition to Eden will also be included in this new novel, albeit in a highly altered form. As a result, Expedition to Eden is going out of print on October 1, and if you want to be able to track my development as a writer and see what I do with the original material, this is your last chance to grab it. I suggest getting the PAPERBACK immediately, as a hard copy of an out-of-print J. Manfred Weichsel story is sure to become a collector's item.
I'm not even kidding. There's an out-of-print anthology I have a story in going on ebay for $100.00.

In other news, my free short story Money Honey received a great review from Benjamin Espen!!! Please check the review out.

You know, writing reviews like this is one of the best ways you can support authors you enjoy, and I really do appreciate it. I understand that not everybody is able to write a long in-depth review like the one linked to above, but by simply logging into whatever store you bought the book at and leaving a short note there saying that you thought the book was funny, exciting, or scary, and that you recommend it to others, you can make a huge difference. People see those reviews, and make their own decision based on them.

If you are too shy to write a review or just don't have the time, many stores such as Amazon and Google Play allow you to leave star ratings without writing a review. I have been trying to get my books into the hands of as many new readers as possible this year, and simply by writing a short review or leaving an anonymous star rating, you will be helping me more than you can ever imagine.

My final bit of news is that Ebu Gogo, Five Maidens on the Pentagram, and Jungle Jitters are all on sale. Normally they are $3.99, but in the middle of August I kind of looked around, and the economy really seemed to be heading in the wrong direction. I want to keep my books affordable, so I decided to lower their prices to $2.99 for the time being. So if you have been waiting to buy any of my eBooks, now is a great time.

And that's it! When I blog next month I'll give an update on my new book. I hope to release it in November or December. Until then, thanks for reading!!!
