Winner of the first ever James Patterson Master Class short-story writing contest, Steven Sheiner is an optometrist turned writer, proving that it's never too late to pursue your dreams! He began his college career as an accounting major, and then proceeded to change his major three times. He had no idea what we wanted to do professionally, but always loved writing. His parents told him what most parents tell their kids when they want to pursue their dreams: "You'll never make any money at that!" So Steven went the "safe" route, and became an optometrist. But twenty years later, he still regretted not pursuing a writing career, and decided it was about time. At forty-five years old, after having been an optometrist for twenty years, he deci ...more

Rowling did such a fantastic job of creating this new world. I've seen it in my mind, I've visited the theme park in Orlando, but how amazing would it be to be whisked away to a land where magic exists and the boy that lived was there to greet you?!(less)

For me, the best approach is to stand up walk away from the computer/typewriter/pad, etc, and find a quiet place to think. I close my eyes and visualize the story and where I want it to go. I picture what has already happened and create in my mind how I want the story to get from where it is to where it needs to go. Once I have a clear picture, I put down my ideas on paper. Anytime a thought or idea pops into my head, I write it down. I may not use them all, but it gives me material to build the story on.(less)

My Evening with James Patterson!

So I had the great fortune of attending a special event in West Palm Beach with the one and only James Patterson. I even got to spend a few minutes talking with him one on one. I took a few pictures and wrote about it on my website. You can check it out here:

Camino Ghosts by John Grisham

As much as I wanted to this sequel to Camino Island, I found it boring and slow and filled with too much “fluff”, as I like to call it. Overly descriptive paragraphs and unnecessary backstory that feels as though it’s just there to fill pages. There ...more

I really wanted to like The Exchange, but I found it slow moving and, truthfully, boring. The pace never quickened and the story trudged along until reaching its foreseeable conclusion.

“I outran the Mob. I didn’t realize I was a legend.”

Thanks to NetGalley and Doubleday Books for sending me an ARC of The Exchange " Read more of this review »
