Preorder Twin Peaks: Season 3 (2017) Blu-Ray w/ 6 Hours of Bonus Content
We are happy to share the new Blu-Ray/DVD release of
Twin Peaks: The Return
(2017) has just been officially announced and is now ready to be preordered ahead of its release on December 05, 2017. The Blu-Ray disc set will contain 6 hours of bonus content, 80 minutes of which is exclusive to the Blu-Ray release. Read more about the release and watch a clip from its bonus content below.
Jason S. acted as the cameraman and frequent Lynch house guest during the making of the excellent recent documentary
David Lynch: The Art Life
(2016). Jason S. now takes over documenting the behind-the-scenes journey of making The Return. Below is a complete list of all the Impressions chapters, which will provide a majority of the bonus content:
The Man with the Grey Elevated HairTell it MartinTwo Blue BallsThe Number of CompletionBad BinocularsSee You on the Other Side Dear FriendDo Not Pick Up HitchhikersA Bloody Finger in Your MouthThe Polish AccountantA Pot of Boiling Oil
The Blu-Ray and DVD sets' special features will also include a 3-part featurette called, "Phenomenon," in which a number of famous Twin Peaks fans, as well as the cast and the crew, discuss the massive impact the show has had on them personally and on society culturally.
And the Blu-Ray and DVD sets will include video coverage of the San Diego Comic Con Panel for Twin Peaks: The Return (2017). The panel took place about halfway through the series initial broadcast and was moderated by
LOST
(2004-10) and
Leftovers
(2014-17) showrunner Damon Lindelof.
So although both the Blu-Ray and DVD sets contained all of the previously mentioned special features, only the Blu-Ray set will include the following juicy nuggets of bonus content: Richard Beymer, who plays Ben Horne in the series, directed two exclusive Blu-Ray featurettes: 1. Behind the Red Curtain and 2. I Had Bad Milk in Dehradun. These featurettes will explore the complex filming techniques employed to bring the Red Room to life on screen.
And also, another apparently exclusive Blu-Ray release is the behind-the-scenes documentary A Very Lovely Dream: One Week in Twin Peaks, directed by special features expert Charles de Lauzirika. This unique documentary will capture what it was like for the original Twin Peaks cast to return to old, familiar locations in Snoqualmie and North Bend, Washington to bring back to life the town of Twin Peaks once again!
For those curious why I keep using the title, Twin Peaks: The Return, to describe this recently aired 18-part Twin Peaks experience, then you need look no further than it being the official title for it on Amazon's and Showtime's official streaming service. It is apparently used to differentiate it from the classic Twin Peaks series from 26 years earlier.
I am not sure why the Blu-Ray set seems to be going out of its way to avoid using "The Return" in its official title, but just be aware that when you hear of Twin Peaks: A Limited Series Event, Twin Peaks: Season 3, and Twin Peaks: The Return, all three names refer to the exact same thing.
If preordered via our Amazon links and ads, at no additional cost to you, a small portion of the sale of

Preview Audio Excerpt of Mark Frost's Twin Peaks: The Final Dossier (2017)
Mark Frost's novel Twin Peaks: The Final Dossier (2017) is the highly anticipated follow-up to his and David Lynch's TV revival Twin Peaks: The Return (2017) and his previously published novel which acted as a prologue for the revived series: The Secret History of Twin Peaks (2017). Although we do not know how many answers to expect, a recently released excerpt from the Audiobook below reveals the death of an integral character from Seasons 1 & 2 that was simply ignored completely in the recent third season.
Although we should probably avoid getting our hopes up about Mark Frost giving us all the details that were left conspicuously absent in the recently broadcast third season, Twin Peaks fans still hope crucial information left out of the show entirely will at least be addressed in The Final Dossier. Such as the infamous ending line of Season 2's 26 year cliffhanger: "How's Annie?"
Audible through Amazon has finally listed Twin Peaks: The Final Dossier with just a week to go before the official release on Halloween this upcoming Tuesday, October 31, 2017. As with The Secret History of Twin Peaks, it is expected that special voice guest stars will reprise some of their characters' roles from the series in the Audiobook itself.
If you're interested in getting free copies of Mark Frost's audiobooks for these two interconnected novels, then Try Audible and Get Two Free Audiobooks[image error]of your choice. In addition to Mark Frost's Secret History and Final Dossier, another great book Twin Peaks fans should consider acquiring is Jennifer Lynch's remarkable Audiobook of The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer (1990), narrated by the one and only Laura Palmer herself: Sheryl Lee. The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer (1990) Audiobook & Paperback
At the height of Twin Peaks' popularity, at the end of its first season, series creators Mark Frost and David Lynch commissioned Lynch's daughter Jennifer to write a media tie-in novel The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer (1990). But unlike many other media tie-in novels, this book received special attention from popular culture as Twin Peaks fever spread across the nation, and the most asked question by TV viewers was, "Who killed Laura Palmer?"
So Jennifer Lynch performed the unenviably difficult task of reconstructing all the characters and atmosphere of Twin Peaks, but portray everything from only Laura Palmer's point of view. Jennifer Lynch also had to harbor and protect one of the most sought-after secrets on TV, while honestly setting up its official reveal. Frost and Lynch knew she would need this information to help her properly foreshadow the reveal that would take place just seven episodes into Season 2.
Laura's Secret Diary would be introduced early in the show's second season narrative with the arrival of Harold Smith—Laura's reclusive shut-in friend and confidant, who Donna Hayward would later find while exploring Laura's old
Meals on Wheels
route. Harold would be played to perfection by the criminally underrated Lenny Von Dohlen in one of the most unforgettable guest character mini-arcs in the show.
As Lynchian and beautifully bizarre as the
Twin Peaks
(1990-91) TV series and later prequel film
Fire Walk with Me
(1992), The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer painstakingly recreates the mind frame of the troubled teen from ages 12 to 17 as she copes with the onset of adolescence, wrestles with conflicting worldviews, comes to terms with her nightmares, and confronts her reality of sexual abuse. As a whole, these pieces to the Laura Palmer puzzle are insightful and the book's refreshingly honest depiction of her state of mind helps add dimensions to Laura's character that make her even more compelling. The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer was a clever way to world build from a point of view that is vital to experiencing the full saga of Twin Peaks.Just as many fans of the show either loved or hated the prequel film Fire Walk with Me , the same polarizing reaction seems to apply to this novel. It is a rather frank portrait of a victim of traumatizing sexual abuse and an examination of some of the many disturbing activities she participated in secretly. So the read can be a bit of a downer for most casual readers. But I agree with Matt Humphrey from The Twin Peaks Podcast , who expressed his opinion that reading The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer helps clarify, enrich, and improve the Twin Peaks viewing experience and prepares viewers for the shocking transition from the slightly lighter tone and content of the TV series into the rougher and more brutal cinematic world of the prequel Fire Walk with Me. A missing link, as it were, that helps bridge the gap.
Along with the The Autobiography of F.B.I. Special Agent Dale Cooper: My Life, My Tapes below, The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer is an excellent resource for anyone wishing to expand their understanding of the complex characters and world of Twin Peaks. Within the Secret Diary's text, Laura expounds on her interactions with her family, friends, and townspeople, adding vital details about these important relationships that add new dimensions to watching the series.

Lost in the Movies
The Secret Diary is NOT your average merchandising ploy to exploit the popularity of a cutting-edge TV series, but is an important appendage to the story revealing new layers of Laura's saga that truly enliven and enrich the series as a whole and make the complex Fire Walk with Me all the more significant and easier to comprehend. Word is that actress Sheryl Lee carried around a copy of The Secret Diary on set to better research and understand how to perform as Laura Palmer.Although technically just a work of fan art, the Canadian dance-punk band You Say Party's music video in the clip above brings to life many memorable scenes from The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer, including Laura's election to homecoming queen and her partying with her secret boyfriend James. We also catch a glimpse at a vital moment in which Audrey Horne spies on Laura comforting Audrey's emotionally disturbed older brother Johnny, which I find informative about Audrey's motivations later in Seasons 1 & 2. I wish this moment existed in the series proper.
In the tradition of assigning talented writer family members to expand on the universe of Twin Peaks in print, Mark Frost's brother Scott Frost was given a similar assignment to deepen our understanding of Agent Cooper's life in
The Autobiography of F.B.I. Special Agent Dale Cooper: My Life, My Tapes
. You can read more of my thoughts on this book in my article here.
In the last episodes of the TV series, Cooper's former F.B.I. partner Windom Earle arrives on the scene. Earle's appearance comes across as a little random in the show, but this novel adds needed layers of depth to their back story unfortunately absent from the series. And once Twin Peaks was prematurely cancelled, this book became one of the few venues for fans to explore this complex storyline further.
And then we have Diane... The Twin Peaks Tapes of Agent Cooper (1990), an audio tape featuring Kyle MacLachlan as Special Agent Dale Cooper, who shares his notes and insights on the Laura Palmer murder case, as well as ruminate on his general worldview. He dictates these quirky messages via tape recorder to his elusive secretary at F.B.I. Headquarters Diane.
Although not quite as rich and detailed as the novels, Diane... The Twin Peaks Tapes of Agent Cooper combines all of Coop's recordings from the
Pilot Episode
through to the
Season 2 Premiere
and adds other additional recordings to better paint a picture of Cooper's initial impressions of the town and denizens of Twin Peaks. At only 45 minutes long, the tape is brief, but is still an entertaining supplement.
December 06, 2011 marked the printing of a new edition of Jennifer Lynch's
The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer
. It contained a new foreword by Mark Frost and David Lynch, which was a nice addition as the two co-creators shared their thoughts of this book with more than two decades to ponder it in retrospect.Win autographed Laura Palmer Diary. Tweet why Twin Peaks still matters to you. Five favorite answers (by noon Wed) get a book. Go #twinpeaks— Mark Frost (@mfrost11) December 5, 2011At that time, there was Twitter prize set up by Mark Frost in which he gave away five autographed copies of the new edition of the book for his five favorite tweets explaining, "Why Twin Peaks still matters to you?" I was fortunate enough to be one of the five winners.
The most beautiful dream and terrible nightmare in TV history, #TwinPeaks epitomizes the highest form of art: man's conflict with himself.— Michael Warren (@MichaelWarrenDr) December 5, 2011When Mark Frost was getting my shipping address, I had a word with him about whether there were any possibile plans of an Audiobook version featuring Sheryl Lee narrating. I even pointed him to a an audio excerpt of Sheryl Lee reading from The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer in a Pre-Season 2 Premiere Special Hosted by Alan Thicke in 1990, which you can hear in the clip below.
Mark Frost seemed particularly interested in that idea and he did some in-depth follow-up research, but unfortunately Sheryl Lee apparently only recorded a few brief excerpts for the TV special back then and full recordings for the book apparently did not exist. But years later, Mark Frost tweeted excitedly about a brand new recording Sheryl Lee made for the Audiobook version.
And while I take no credit from Sheryl Lee, Mark Frost, and author Jennifer Lynch for the recently released Audiobook featuring Sheryl's excellent voice narration, I like to think I had a small part in at least giving a voice to the many other Twin Peaks fans out there in demonstrating how much fan demand there was for Sheryl Lee to voice the Diary. And in that VERY small way, I like to think I helped contribute to it happening.
For those who have not yet had the opportunity to hear the Audiobook version yourself, I wanted to make you aware of a deal at Audible that would allow you to get any two Audiobooks of your choice for free. You have up to a month to cancel your free trial, but if you choose to keep your membership for $14.95 per month, you will continue to receive a free Audio book each month and receive a 30% dscount off any other Audiobook purchases.
It is an excellent way to get The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer for free and Audiobooks are becoming a more and more popular way of keeping up with the latest in fiction and non-fiction anyway. It is an excellent way of turning your commute or household chores into a more pleasurable and informative experience. In the future you can look forward to 40 Years of David Lynch being released on Audiobook through Audible, too.Paperback

Twin Peaks Multimedia Homage: Virgin Soil (2017)
Drawing inspiration from a recent performance of Xiu Xiu in a coast-side military chapel, young filmmaker John Clayton Lee partnered up with photographer Ekaterina Ozhiganova to create a joint multimedia project titled: Virgin Soil (2017).
John Clayton Lee filmed the short film Faith Hope Love, which is embedded in the clip above. Meanwhile, Ekaterina Ozhiganova created an accompanying photo essay, a few photos of which are included in this article.
Xiu Xiu is an experimental indie rock band, and whether you hate them or love them or fall somewhere else on the spectrum, I have to say that their interpretation of the Twin Peaks music is pretty peculiar and original, at least. Which in the eerie, odd, and spooky world of Twin Peaks is quite the compliment.
This would appear to be an homage to the White Lodge, the theoretical home of the Fireman and Dido featured in Black and White scenes from Part 8 of Twin Peaks: The Return (2017). The photos and film work were beautifully rendered for Virgin Soil.
Of all the multimedia projects paying homage to David Lynch and Mark Frost's stunning dreamworld of Twin Peaks, this is likely one of the most original. And the overall experience they created makes me look forward to seeing what these artists do next.

Barry Lyndon (1975) Criterion Blu-Ray Release Today
Barry Lyndon (1975) might be the most argued about film in Stanley Kubrick's oeuvre. Some otherwise battle-tested and devoted Kubrick aficianados call it his worst film. Others, myself included, list it as his greatest masterpiece: the sum of Kubrick's extensive wisdom distilled into one, brutally powerful film experience. The Criterion Collection's release of Barry Lyndon today on Blu-Ray is an affirmation of its artistic merit. And it is also currently the best presentation of the film yet on home video, based on a new 4K transfer of the negative. Stanley Kubrick's personal assistant, Leon Vitali, helped oversee the restoration efforts and the creation of a new 5.1 surround track and it shows. And as an added nugget of trivia, Leon Vitali co-stars in the film as Barry's stepson Lord Bullingdon.I presented a newer and more improved trailer first, then directly above is the vintage theatrical trailer. The tonal differences between the marketing and the film itself were pretty extreme. I think the formality of the period portrayed in Barry Lyndon is sometimes confused as cold or distant, but it truly is Kubrick's most emotionally gripping movies, although a lot of it is in the subtext of the scenes. A little patience will go a long way in connecting to this masterpiece.

Roy Dotrice (1923-2017) Passes Away RIP
Beloved British character actor Roy Dotrice passed away yesterday, October 16, 2017. He had numerous supporting roles in film and television, with 120 listed acting credits on the IMDb. Having been born shortly after World War I ended in 1923, Roy and his family were displaced by the Germans in War War II, prompting him to lie about his age and join the British Royal Air Force as a precocious lad of just 16 years.
Roy Dotrice notably played Leopold Mozart in Amadeus (1984), Father Wells in Beauty and the Beast (1987-90), the sage Russian figure skating coach Anton Pamchenko in the classic rom-com The Cutting Edge (1992), the cowardly, Neville Chamberlain-like Centauri-appeasing Earth Ambassador Frederick Lantz in Babylon 5 (1993-98), Wesley's judgmental father Roger Wyndam-Pryce in Angel (1999-2004), the one-armed Elf King Balor in Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008), and his final screen role was the memorable Hallyne the Pyromancer in Game of Thrones (2011-18).And Roy even narrated the award-winning A Song of Ice and Fire novels on audiobook from Book 1: A Game of Thrones to Book 5: A Dance of Dragons. Unfortunately, he will not have the opportunity to complete his narration narrate the final two planned novels in George R.R. Martin's series, Book 6: The Winds of Winter and Book 7: A Dream of Spring.
Roy Dotrice's acting career was filled with memorable guest appearances across the gamut of television, with memorable guest appearances on shows like The Equalizer (1985-89), Remington Steele (1982-87), The A-Team (1983-87), and Murder, She Wrote (1990-95). Again, with 120 screen acting credits to his name, He certainly left a strong impression on me from hisJust a month before his passing, Roy Dotrice left the above video message for his Beauty and Beast fans, which is also acts as a fitting farewell from the actor, in retrospect. It is a little bittersweet to watch, but it is touching how close he remained to his fans even at 94 years of age.

Visit the Double RR Diner in Los Angeles for One Week!
Lynchites in the Los Angeles area are doubly lucky this week, as a slice of David Lynch heaven lands down just after his Festival of Disruption ends this weekend. You will be able to get your next Lynch fix at Norma's exquisite Double RR Diner, which thanks to a swirling portal connecting Twin Peaks to Melrose will be temporarily available from October 16-22, 2017. Read below for full details!Ok, it is a pop-up diner façade being built over a pre-existing Johnny Rockets location and it will only stand like that for a limited time, unfortunately. This is similar in concept to the Breaking Bad pop-up bars and restaurants, which popped up temporarily in a few locations across the U.S. in temporary locations emulating the appearance of the mobile meth lab RV or the fictional fried chicken restaurant Los Pollos Hermanos.
It is a hilarious and fun concept and this mock-up Double RR Diner will be filled with Twin Peaks merchandise, including collectibles, David Lynch's signature coffee brand, and authentic props and wardrobe items. They will carry authorized cosplay costumes, outfits, and accessories ranging in price from as low as $10 to as high as $350 for full, deluxe costumes.
This temporary shop will likely provide you with a number of fun photo opportunities and touristy keepsakes to keep even the most demanding Twin Peaks fan happy. From what I hear, their costume array will emphasize the characters introduced in the third season of Twin Peaks, in the The Return itself. This would include characters such as Dougie and Candie. Whatever the case, it sounds like a perfect place to visit if you can and a good way to prepare for Halloween!
I regret to inform you that the Twin Peaks Double RR Diner will only be up for one week in Los Angeles, though. And the proprietors of this establishment have not announced any plans to visit any other cities with this fun concept yet. But this fun little pop-up Double RR Diner will be open from this Monday to Sunday, October 16-22, 2017, and its hours of operation will be from 12pm (Noon) to 8pm PST. You will find it at the following address: 7505 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, California 90046 Enjoy!

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross Cover John Carpenter's Halloween (1978) Theme
Sometimes the great composers of our time just want to have fun and make a cover of a classic theme song. In the clip below, listen to Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross's reinterpretation of John Carpenter's Halloween (1978) Theme song. And compare it to the original track originally penned by Carpenter himself while he was first editing his horror classic, in the clip even further below. And Trent Reznor with his band Nine Inch Nails created a track for David Lynch's Twin Peaks: The Return (2017), which was featured prominently in the most talked about and most experimental episode of the whole series, Part 8. Without revealing too much, the episode featured a zombie invasion of charred lumberjacks and extreme close-ups of nuclear blasts. It was an unforgettable episode.
"We wrote a different song initially, and [Lynch] said, ‘How about something less Twin Peaks-y sounding, and more aggressive and ugly,’” Reznor said. Collaborator Atticus Ross added, “I think he said, ‘Make my hair stand on end.’" The duo went on to say that their song "She's Gone Away" from their album Not the Actual Events was written for their Twin Peaks appearance.
"We left the theater forever changed. We were damaged and scarred... and that theme stuck firmly in our heads," remarked Trent Reznor about his childhood exposure to John Carpenter's seminal horror classic Halloween (1978). John Carpenter's independent production and incredible success with Halloween helped inspire a whole new generation of filmmakers to skip the studios and make their own passion projects.John Carpenter's self-made synth score definitely resonated in these two modern composers and remains to this day one of the most deceptively simple yet effective horror scores to this day. It is wonderful to have the new pioneers of music to salute their inspirations and honor those who paved the way before them.

Stranger Things (2016-Present) All Season 2 Promos & Clips
The perfect storm of character, story, cast, writing, and direction came together last year in the first season of Stranger Things, and the next leg of the story looks surprisingly just as good. Stranger Things 2, a.k.a. Season 2, will be dropped en masse on Netflix two weeks from today, October 27, 2017. Watch all the promotional material for new season in the video clips below! The first season was a magic show that hit just the right chord of nostalgia, horror, science fiction, and adventure to be instantly daring, bold, and fearlessly recognizable as its own original thing, yet still oddly accessible to mainstream audiences. The child actors and the rest of the remarkable ensemble cast were propelled to stardom and made the Duffer Bros. an instantly recognizable filmmaking duo to the average person. Stranger Things is easily the biggest hit Netflix has had and it promises to remain so if they can consistently deliver such high quality into the future.
I would advise the cast and crew to not let their success get to their heads, though. The same simple and humble storytelling that made their first season a new classic is the same thing that will secure their future seasons remain in the cultural lexicon for centuries ahead. I would hate to see the show begin to bend under the weight and pressure of their own success. Stay true, the little show that could!
But all signs are looking promising for the upcoming season and the trailers and marketing this year has been a marked improvement over that preluding the first season last year. Stranger Things has earned our goodwill and excitement. Let us hope Season 2 proves that the Duffer Bros. are not one-hit wonders, but true artists and entertainers!
And all the Ghostbuster (1984) Easter eggs in the trailers makes me happier than I can rationally explain. It is like my childhood hopes and dreams are emerging on screen, captured as video on Netflix! Stranger Things, we salute you and here's hoping to see you on the other side. *Activate proton packs*

Marilyn Manson Discusses David Lynch Collaborations with Marc Maron
Stand-up comic and podcaster extraordinaire interviews alternative rockstar Marilyn Manson, who has been recently promoting his new album Heaven Upside Down (2017). Manson opens up about his life, father, career, and shares several interesting anecdotes about working with David Lynch, Trent Reznor, and meeting the iconic David Bowie. Listen to the full WTF Podcast with Marilyn Manson in the clip below.
Many of you might recognize Marc Maron from his incredible performance as the Female Wrestling Managar from Netflix's surprise hit series GLOW (2017-Present), but he has been a long-time stand-up comic and megastar podcaster for many years now. Noted for his down-to-earth, honest comedic style and tone, he is a natural interlocutor and he helps set at ease his interviewees and cull excellent personal stories from them.
And Maron is no different with Marilyn Manson, who explores a lot about his childhood and his relationship with his father, but as well discusses different highlights of his career. He had a particularly touching recollection of his time touring with Alice Cooper.
And Marilyn and Marc's discussion of working with David Lynch and Trent Reznor is fascinating and funny, all at once. And Marilyn's tale of meeting with his hero David Bowie is equally unforgettable. Check it out and listen to the full interview in the video clip above.
