Review: TIES CAN BE DEADLY by Cindy Bell
It all started with a bankrobbery, which Eddy was in the middle of. Disturbed by it, Eddy was determinednot to let the robbers get away with it. Then the robbery led to a murder.Solving the murder of a robber. Now, that was a first. It would seem that therewas a grand scheme with deadly ties. It was interesting to see how complex thiscase was.
A good mystery!

Review: HER LAST SUMMER by Melinda Woodhall
A dead author found in her hoteltub. Sounded like a great story for TV reporter Veronica Lee.
With the various characterstorylines, this mystery was reminiscent of the MHC (Mary Higgins Clark) booksthat I’m a huge fan of. A conman who haskilled before was on the loose and was killing to keep his freedom of stolenluxury. The narrative was strong, but it was also lagging with time spent onrepeated info. Sometimes I even forgot who some of these characters were. Itwas a pretty good read overall. I mean, I would’ve preferred not knowing thekiller and then trying to figure it out during the read. As is, this wasn’tquite as suspenseful and it was kinda long. I might give the rest of thisseries a chance if I feel up to it. We’ll see.

Sunu the Saxon and Rufus the Roman meet Keresaspa theSarmatian (CH 7 of The Fate of Our Union).
Sunu and Rufus leaned in, beholding her sapphire blues—thenshe punched them in the face.
The woman sprang forward from the mountain while they fellbackward onto brown pasture. As they stood up, she kicked back like a mad bull,hitting their chests.
Fallen back to the pasture, Sunu and Rufus rolled on thedamp grass to face each other, then looked up at the woman to see her aiming anarrow, a cloud above her brooding face.
“Scavengers!”
They rolled away from her rapid-fire, bronze heads nippingat their skin. Sunu pulled a crimson arrow from his blood bull cloak and shotup to his feet. He extended his right arm, catching a whizzing red shaft withthe Gauntlet of Truth and snapping it while whipping the Fetter of Awe with hisleft hand, lassoing the woman by her waist.
She held out her bow as he yanked her his way.
Sunu grabbed his mace while she nocked an arrow. As herskidding shins stopped near his bare feet, he batted the bow and arrow out ofher hands. Rufus confiscated her archery while Sunu seized her sword and aimedit at her head.
She jerked back, nostrils flaring red, arcing her shouldersto slide out of the Fetter only to feel it tightening further. “I’ll be noman’s forced bride—not for the conqueror of hundreds or thousands or hundredsof thousands!”
“Bride?” Sunu winced, glancing at Rufus as he ran to hisside. “I thought you had beauty, but I said no word of you being my bride.”

When Bradley and his brothers returned to Gramps’ house fromthe funeral, friends and family warmly greeted them. Kera and Gregg arrivedshortly after, but Sharon was nowhere to be seen.

With so many people walking around him and blocking his way,he grew more impatient by the minute. His search was momentarily interruptedwhen he entered the kitchen to find Sara and some of the other women preparingthe food for everyone.
“Hi, baby,” Sara said as she walked around the island to hughim. “Where are your brothers?”
“They’re in the living room, mixing with the guests.”
Sara stood back to look at him. “I know this is a stupidquestion, but I’m going to ask anyway. How are you guys holding up?”
“We’re good, Mrs. Sara. It’s just going to take some time toadjust to Gramps not being here. I think we’re going to be all right.”
“Just know that if there’s anything you need, you can callme. You know we got you.”
“I know, Mrs. Sara. We appreciate that.”
“Well, I made food for you all for the week, and I’vealready put it up for you in the refrigerator, so all you need to do is put itin the microwave and heat it up.” She beckoned for him to follow her to thepantry and pointed to the top shelf. “I made your favorite lemon sour creampound cake and a Sprite upside-down cake as well.”
Rubbing his hands together in excitement, he thanked her andgave her a hug. As they closed the door to the pantry, he turned to see afamiliar face at the other end of the vast kitchen. One he had been waiting tosee all day. It was her. She was finally here. His heart leaped, and hecouldn’t help the big smile came across his face.

Review: Sharon was a lonely woman lookingfor love, but she refused to be betrayed by another man again. Then cameBradley. Instantly they share a bond and spiritual connection.
This was a nice, sweet, andsentimental story. I wasn’t too keen on all the religious stuff, but I couldsurely appreciate the goodness of these characters. The pace, in general, wasrather slow and unappealing. A good chunk of the story centered around thegrandpa’s funeral, which, of course, involved the church. The best part werethe highs and lows of two people trying to find a romantic connection whiledealing with their emotional baggage.
Overall, this was a fairly niceromance.

A haunted hotel and a ghost thatkills. Sounded interesting, right? Well, I have to say that this really wasn’tas interesting as I was hoping. The beginning chapters talk a lot about thisghost and the things it has done. We don’t get a dead body until chapter 5,and, of course, they blame the ghost. There was a lot of trivial dialogue thattalked about the case, which doesn’t quite follow the cozy mystery pattern. Themystery doesn’t quite keep you riveted and trying to guess who did it. It wastepid really.
The read was pretty decentoverall, and it was short and quick, so I’d say it’s worth a shot if you havenothing else to read. But it could be better. In this book, there’s room formore mystery, more excitement, more interest. Just more.

H-he changed our loan agreement after it was already signed, making the amount I’m expected to pay almost double of what it was. The agreement is due in only two months.”
“My uncle is an honorable man. He wouldn’t do such a thing.”
Sudden exhaustion swamped him, and Byron sank into the desk chair. “I don’t know why he forged the agreement. Why now? Why my business?”

Kelly’sfascination with fiction began in middle school when she entered a book-readingcontest and won. When college professors spotlighted her writing in theclassroom, it triggered her interest in becoming a novelist. As an ardent fanof the resonating narrative and the cliffhanger, she decided to dedicateherself to becoming a skilled writer. She continued to pursue her education atUCLA Extension where her writing earned praise from an award-winningauthor/professor.
Whendid she dare to dream large? An epiphany occurred when she read that one of herfavorite authors, Nicholas Sparks, began his work career with a Finance degree,also graduating with honors. As anavid, lifelong equestrian, rural life with horses proved to be a perfectbackdrop for indulging her insatiable desire to craft quality novels. In fact,she wrote Beautiful Evil Winter, her first paperback, while training forcompetition and managing the family ranch.
