Word Counts and Goals:

Is there a magic number that you've found in your daily, or weekly word counts that is just the right number or that is easy to maintain?
How many of you do a daily word count?
How many do a weekly?
In my experience, I have horrible guilt and then self loathing if I can't meet my word count goals. So, I've been wondering how other author's balance keeping themselves on task and disciplined, with how to deal with the days when you don't meet your word counts?

Writing & Time Management

I am trying to focus my energy on two things this year: 1.) Self Discipline 2.) Time Management when it comes to writing.
I really need to make myself sit down and write, even when I'm dead tired from working 40+ hours in my day job and running after two kids.
What I would really like to hear from you, is any tips or tricks that you use and incorporate into your daily writing schedule that keep you on task.
Please feel free to share your experiences! I'd love to see what other writers are doing to keep their writing schedules on task

Thank you so much!

What Mistakes Have you Learned from as an Author?

I am always interested to hear what mistakes, or what things in general, new authors learned on their journey to publication. It seems like there are common mistakes that new authors make and not so common one's that are big learning experiences.
Some of the things I am most interested in are learning experiences you learned from:
--Querying Editors/Agents
--Being rejected or resubmitting after rejection
--Self publishing
--Writing Synopsis
--Writing Blurbs

If you'd like to share your experiences it would be greatly appreciated :)

--Good luck to all the readers and writers out there!

Social Media/Book & Author Promotion

Which social media platforms do you use an an author to promote your brand and your books?

Which ones are most effective for gaining followers?

Readers, is there one social media platform that is easiest for you to interact with and/or find your favorite authors and see what is new?

I've found that for me, Twitter is my favorite platform for getting the word out that I'm an author and it has been relatively easy to track followers and trends-with their built in analytics. (which is fascinating to study) It seems like Twitter is the best way to spread information far out and among lots of people. (My twitter link: https://twitter.com/LairdLady)

Facebook has been a little bit more of a challenge for me, but I am getting the hang of it although, ease of use hasn't been easy. It seems like having a 'Page' vs. regular 'personal' profile is very different in terms of how you go about 'liking' other pages and people etc. (I'm still learning!) (My Author Facebook Page link: https://www.facebook.com/JenniferRhae...)

Websites-I do have a website that is devoted to my writing and Author 'brand'. This I think is a great resource for any author to have as a location for people to come to for new information etc. It is definitely a major piece in the pyramid structure of promotional tools that an author needs to be successful getting the word out about their books and themselves. (My website Link: https://www.jenniferrhae.com/)

I've since learned about about GoodReads, and that has been a lot of fun to be a part of. I love how it is a community of readers and writers who love to talk about the books they've read. It's really a great place to come and discuss opinions about books and to interact with the authors themselves. I have just recently, joined and created an Author Profile. I am hoping that when I publish my book I can gain some more followers :) (My GoodReads link: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...)

I would love to hear which social media platforms you are using as an Author and which one's Readers like to go to etc.
Thank you for stopping by my blog! Give me a 'like' or a 'follow' ;)

Happy Reading and Writing!

Bullet Journal-Keeping the Writing on Task

Does anyone "Journal" or keep track of their writing goals and accomplishments in any way?
I have been keeping a journal of my twitter interactions and feedback with readers and other authors. I also write down my tweets from #1lineWed and other hashtag games. Most of the lines I tweet are from current WIP's, but some are just inspired by whatever the theme of the hashtag game may be. It's kind of a cool writing stimulant for me--so I always try to write down in my journal the tweets--
I've recently come across "Bullet Journal-ing"
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/1808477...
I've started one (on a very low scale) it's very basic because the system seems very involved--and I really don't have that kind of time right now, but I'm tailoring it to my writing goals and accomplishments--because having a visual goal that you can work toward--is really key to actually meeting those goals. It assigns some accountability, I think.

That's my two cents for today!
I'd really like to hear if you Journal and how you do it :)

Thanks for reading!

Happy Reading and Writing!
