Author Interview with Alethea Lyons

banner that has a picture of a stack of old books beside text that says 'author interview' above 'indie book spotlight' with small graphic of a book with a rose and stars on top between the words

Introduce yourself!

Hello! I’m Alethea Lyons, but most folks call me Thea. I’m an SFF writer based in Manchester, UK, and I also play violin, mandolin, and drink too much tea.

What’s the first book you remember reading?

I remember the first book I learnt to read at school. It was the same word on every page (‘Look’) and was about a witch and a frog, I think.

Tell us what you’re currently reading!

I have a couple of beta reads on the go. I’m also reading an ARC of The Apex Agen...

New Release: The Strange Grey Everything

Ebook cover for The Strange Grey Everything by Rebecca Crunden; cover shows a shadow of a grey wolf above a forest that's dark green and black and foggy. text is gold and greyish-white.

Damien Giles hasn’t seen his husband in twelve years. Not since Carlisle left him on their honeymoon. All Damien got was his father-in-law telling him that Carlisle wasn’t coming back. (Twice.) And yet divorce papers never arrived.

Now Carlisle’s back in town for his brother’s wedding and keeps crossing Damien’s path. More baffling to Damien is how little Carlisle’s changed – and how much he still seems to care for Damien. Which, after twelve years of silence, is more than a little ridicu...

Book Review: The Whisper That Replaced God (2024)

The Whisper That Replaced God by Timothy Wolff

It was like they had died but never lived, trying to scream and failing to whisper.

This was my first read from Timothy Wolff and I’m going to pick up his others ASAP because the prose in this was SO GOOD UGH.

It’s harrowing to realize you cannot atone for your sins when there are too many to remember.

There were so many hard hitting lines in this novella. I was also really surprised by the twist at the end? Like I didn’t see where t...

Book Review: The Kheld King (2022)

The Kheld King by L.L. Stephens

OOOOH this was quite the follow-up to the first book!! (My review of book one is here.) I spent the entire book raging at Stefan and cheering on Dorillian. Dorillian was so likeable in this book. He was just trying to protect his kids and it made him so easy to root for. Stefan, on the other hand? ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Can’t wait to see where book three goes!

Cover Reveal/Preorder: Wild Skies by K.E. Andrews

[I’m so, so, so late with this post! Originally it was meant to be a cover reveal, but I didn’t have internet and was waiting on having it installed, and I’ve been incredibly busy on top of that, so I missed Andrews’ cover reveal on Hallowe’en and thus am now instead posting a pre-order link/cover reveal combo post!]

Check out K. E. Andrews’ latest book! Links to pre-order below!

Wild Skies full front and back cover. Shows a man with a hat holding a gun and riding on the back of a dragon. There's another dragon with a rider in the distance.

Book Review: The Wrong Stop (2024)

The Wrong Stop by Rex Burke

OH THIS WAS FUN! One of my favourite movies is Paul, and this feels like Paul’s British complement and it’s utterly well done and fun! We follow Hutch, Sully and Jed as they’re wrapping up their European beer tour via Interrail when they happen to sit down beside Vlak on the train and suddenly find themselves taking care of a confused, chip-loving, crash-landed, beer-allergic alien.

Everything about this was fun! I laughed at so many points. The friendship b...

Legacy of Brick & Bone (Tainted Dominion #2) by Krystle Matar

SPOILER WARNING

“This is the game you signed up for. For Jason, remember? The first one is always the hardest because you always find yourself sympathizing for the other side. People don’t fight for nothing—there’s always a good reason for it, and when you spend time with them and you get to know them, you can see their reasons written on their souls. You can’t help but wonder if you’re doing the right thing.”

The Thirteenth Hour by Trudie Skies

MILD SPOILERS

If I wiped my memories a hundred times over, I’d still dream of those eyes.

Oh this was such a fun surprise! I’ve been meaning to read The Thirteenth Hour for a while now (the TBR is huge! HUGE!) but if I’d known how much Quen YEARNED for Kayl, I’d have shuffled it right up the TBR and started it sooner. LMFAO. I’m such a sucker for angst-riddled romances and this DELIVERED. It fits really well with my week of rewatching Buffy and On...
