Cohen: The Colors of Courage

[image error]I would love feedback since I do all my covers myself (with stock photos of course).

I’ve been editing this handsome guy for a while. It’s my first time writing a book solely from the male perspective, but I think it’s working out. It’s been an interesting challenge for sure. But after some time, I realized his voice flows more easily than any of my female characters ever have.

Now, I’m wondering what that says about me…

While I’ve been cleaning the ending up and editing, I felt inspired to work on his cover a bit, adding the stag with the nebula for Cerephus’s character, as the gatekeeper on earth. Here they are! Any thoughts are appreciated!

Best wishes!

Orion knows the dire consequences of pushing the body’s limits all-too-well. The daughter of a fitness legend and social butterfly, Orion lives in her father’s withering shadow, carrying the weight of a secretly broken man on her shoulders. Unable to leave her father’s side to pursue a life for herself, she remains isolated in the mountains of her Montana hometown. When her vacation plans crumble and the streets fill with others’ Christmas cheer, she’s surprised with a visit from her suddenly-infatuated best friend and the unwelcome appearance of her ex.

But, it’s the pair of brooding, silver eyes on an equally intimidating stranger that makes every breath truly bittersweet, tempting her to bend the rules that have kept her broken heart safe.

It’s been a long time since Matt felt a connection to anyone. Will Orion find the trust she’s looking for and expose him to her darkest secret in time to save them both? Or, will Matt’s past catch up with him before she has the chance?

Filled with holiday humor, tempers, sweet romance, and lots of food, Orion and Matt rediscover what it means to have hope, faith, love, joy, and a belief in something greater than themselves.

Some language and violence.

Dark Magic and Cohen

[image error]Cohen has a cover! (Finally)

I’ve been tossing ideas around for a long time. It makes me happy to be able to look at it and know it’s off my list of to-dos. He’s almost ready to graduate to edits. Here’s to hoping I can get him a buddy on #CPMatch viaTwitter.

Cohen © 2017 Elysia L. Strife

Kicked out of Skyfire magic school for nearly killing another student, Cohen’s powers stripped, banned from practicing, he must relearn what it means to be human: vulnerable and alone. Taking a job in a small mining town, occupied by more than the superstitious, he finds shelter in an abandoned mansion with it’s own secrets. A familiar tapestry, a girl he can’t take his eyes off, and a panicked call from his brothers still on Skyfire start twisting his life into a magical knot of fate.

Stocking Stuffers for Kids

[image error]Kids already love this little book. I’ve even been asked to read it to students back home. If you need a stocking stuffer or just a cute holiday read for young kids, A Wet Nose Christmas on Amazonis perfect.

It’s paperback and fits inside a stocking, and at $6.99 costs less than the other kids’ books I just picked up at Walmart. [image error]

If you prefer digital formats, it’s available for Kindle as well at $1.99.

It’s hand drawn and my first children’s book. I would love your feedback!

The next books are being completed in a digital paint program so they will be full-page images. I can’t wait!

Thanks and Merry Christmas!

The Next Challenge – NaNoWriMo

I’m taking the plunge on November 1st with National Novel Writing Month’s write a novel in November. Does anyone have any extra pants? I’ve decided to write a Women’s Fiction novel, a scary concept to me, because sometimes it gets too personal. But, alas, the prompt is what came to mind when I found out about NaNoWriMo. I figure it must be fate.

The details are below. I’m going to attempt 50,000 words in the month of November. I know I can type over that in a week, but making something out of thin air, when I haven’t been stirring on it for a while is rather… intimidating. I see lots of people do this so it can’t be that hard, right? (If I don’t start taping my fingertips, I’ll have no nails left by the time I have to start!)

Title: Let it Burn[image error]

Genre: Women’s Fiction

Synopsis: Norah has been planning for her career since she was a little girl. Her life has become everything she thought it wouldn’t be: blessed with broken expectations and tormented by irresistible opportunity. When her father takes ill, her world snowballs into chaos and she must find the strength to pull the pieces of her shattered life together without his help. Unless this time, she’ll finally decides to let it burn.

Her mother’s palm connected with her cheek, leaving it stinging and hot.

Norah clenched her teeth, snapping her eyes back on her through the ache. “I’m starting to wonder if you’re off your meds again.” She cocked her head. “Or maybe the condition is just an excuse for your substance problem. No one in their right mind leaves a spouse at a hospital fighting for their life alone.”

Joanne slid back, lips parted in shock. “I used to love you.”

Norah shook her head. “You only ever loved Jordan. Why you adopted me before you had him I’ll never know.”

“You’re right.” Joanne’s nose lifted. “Only your father knew the answer to that.”

Rage boiled over and Norah couldn’t contain it any longer. “Get out.”

Her mother rolled her eyes and didn’t budge.

Norah sucked in a deep breath thrusting a finger at the door. “Get out!”

A Note: Struggling with identity as a woman and understanding roles and expectations in today’s society is what spurred this. We’ll see how it turns out.

Check out nanowrimo.org to participate (for free!) or to donate to their programs to encourage young writers!

Thanks for reading!
