For about three or four months, it showed up as a recommendation on their mobile app, and the reads rolled in from there. I attribute the success of that story to me having designed it specifically for a young audience, with short chapters and a fast pace. I also ended every chapter on a cliffhanger and edited many drafts until I was satisfied with the final draft. It's not perfect, but it's pretty polished. Getting feedback from readers was an invaluable part of the process, and the lovely cover design by Consuelo Parra also helped bring the story some attention. (less)

As another birthday roles around this August (Virgo, not Leo) and I do my habitual yearly self-assessment, I observe the following: I got healthier (sobriety, meditation, diet & exercise do work), learned to filter out (some) lingering negativity in my life (about time, eh?), grew out my natural hair color for the third time, read 78 books, started a BookTube channel, helped to organize a lo...

R.’s Recent Updates

R. Claire and 7 other people liked Will Errickson's review of The Exorcist:
The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty
"The preeminent 1970s bestselling horror novel. Millions of copies adorning nightstands and coffee tables everywhere. The unfocused cover photograph of a young girl in torment. The exotic, sibilant title--exorcist--why, the word itself sounded evil..." Read more of this review »

Stephen King
“You can approach the act of writing with nervousness, excitement, hopefulness, or even despair--the sense that you can never completely put on the page what's in your mind and heart. You can come to the act with your fists clenched and your eyes narrowed, ready to kick ass and take down names. You can come to it because you want a girl to marry you or because you want to change the world. Come to it any way but lightly. Let me say it again: you must not come lightly to the blank page.”
Stephen King

Colm Tóibín
“Ending a novel is almost like putting a child to sleep—it can't be done abruptly.”
Colm Tóibín

Clive Barker
“‎"Magic is the first and last religion of the world. It has the power to make us whole, to open our eyes to the Dominions and return us to ourselves. Everything that isn't us is also ourselves. We're joined to everything that was, is and will be. From one end of the Imajica to another. From the tiniest mote dancing over this flame to the Godhead Itself.”
Clive Barker

“Nothing else wounds so deeply and irreparably. Nothing else robs us of hope so much as being unloved by one we love”

“When all else fails, give up and go to the library.”
