Why New Authors Shouldn’t Be Scared of Networking

Some of us are overwhelmed by social interactions, not because we are just introverts. We are drained quickly with negotiating the difficult tasks of going to buy groceries, or eating in a restaurant. Social anxiety is a thing we have, but it’s unfortunately like the muscle we have to work otherwise the atrophy can cause injury to our careers. if the idea of going to a doctor, dentist, DMV is an ordeal you desperately want alternativ...

“It is good you came so quickly, Brother Finn,” Herr Vils praised as he opened the door to his home. Brother Finn and Bergamot entered the farmer’s longhouse. “Was it a hard trip?”
The monk thought abou...

The Wild West AI Dumpster Fire
With new studies coming out showing that GAI is a long long way off because the models collapse rapidly with growing complexity, things are going to get weird for those who thought this was actual true thought. Too many smart people are being absolutely buffaloed that this is real cognition rather than an impossibly complex, lightning quick variation of an if/then/else algorithm capable of new levels of data display.

I’ve been experimenting with locally installed Generative AI Art (gAI) a...

Chapter 1 – Winning the Battle, Losing the WarBrother Finn Arrives
The yellow-leafed end of September came too soon. Once vibrant fields of crops were now swaths of ash speckled with low weeds. Farmholders scrounged through the remains for any plant that might have survived. Every bean or kernel of corn they could find was put aside for next year. If they could survive till s...

Thunder-bumpers, Slopes & Heat Stress
How do!
Boy… I am sore today.
This weekend was the kickoff of the WV Renaissance Festival, and my body’s paying the price. Owwie owwie owwieeeeee….

Once again, we had to set up our own canopy on a near 10% incline that made everything feel like one of those “crazy hut” novelty spots where everything feels off balance but it looks normal. The view was gorgeous over the jousting ring once again, but we ...

Gallery: Liminal Spaces – Trackside
I spent most of my youth walking the tracks along the Fox River and Appleton Industrial Flats. It was like I lived in these sorts of liminal states for all my youth. For me, they bring peace and nostalgia.

Read the Chapter! When I decided to write fantasy, I argued with God about it. (we writers can get overly dramatic. Take this for what you will.) My heart is primarily in Science Fiction. But this story pressed on my heart and wouldn’t stop. Finally I gave in and sai...

American Pop: A Social Time Capsule
It was the trailer that got me. For decades, I had seen the trailer for Ralph Bakshi’s so-called masterpiece, “American Pop”. It was one of those trailers that intrigued me but never quite convinced me to watch it, until last night. Finally, curiosity got the best of me, and I decided to see what the fuss was about. After watching the movie, I’m not quite sure how to feel about it. My wife and I had a long conversation about it and its meaning. I guess this is a good thing, ultimately.

What flies in the skies of the Dream Nebula?

One of the biggest things people don’t seem to understand about Tales From the Dream Nebula (TFDN) is that it is not outer space. There’s no hard vacuum, stars or solar systems. Everything exists in a nearly boundless sky.
The shattered pieces of planet exist in layers of these breathable atmospheres. For navigation, humanity calls the bright, hot layers “up” versus the colder darker layers “down”. So going Up-Northwest is rising from cooler ...
