What’s To Do?

A little early, a bit too soon,
You’re using a ladle instead of a spoon.
Perhaps a moment. Maybe a thought?
Pause. Take a breath. Do what you ought.
What’s the solution? What’s to be done?
You’re full of questions, but answers, none.
So. Listen to me. In fact – listen to you!
In role reversal, tell me, what’s to do?

Same Page

You’re less knight in shining armour,
More endless biscuit tin.
More likely to ask about my lunch,
And not ‘How have you been?’
Not interested in pleasantries,
Or thinking that is deep,
Deliberately different
Like an irate mutinous sheep.
But that is why I like you –
We are on the same page,
Singing from the same hymn sheet
And not above pointless rage
Keep doing what you’re doing,
And who knows, time may tell
That when we’re old and more senile,
W...
Error
It didn’t matter what he added or deleted. There was still an error when he refreshed the screen. A blocked out panel in the centre of the page that, if anything, only grow bigger. Like a letter box, he thought, jolting back when it lifted like a flap. Animated, of course, not an actual flap from the screen. But his chest still tightened for the sight of a pair of eyes peering out. He blinked. They blinked back. Irises the colour of opal, and a stare froze him right where he sat.
“Uh. Hi,” he...

Venom

There is no antidote to the poison of your words.
The venom you steadily supply paralyses
Each time I begin to move my limbs.
The level of your vindictiveness brings nothing but surprises,
Like, how I thought drinking poison made you immune.
You’re killing me slowly, one stolen heartbeat at a time
As my life ticks away, under the steady
Beat of your tortuous tune.
And I would suck out the festering wound
Until there was nothing left of me
If I could. But your venom has left me listless,
Lack...

Essentially

You are essentially my married lover.
Never mine for the having,
Never yours for the giving,
Never able to concentrate fully on what we are saying,
Or doing.
You are always tied elsewhere

Embellished

Justify your lies to me,
Pretend I just misunderstand.
Taint each embellished memory.
Belittle me in mockery,
Deny this wasn’t what you planned.
Justify your lies to me.
Remind me why this cannot be,
Demean what happened on the strand.
Taint each embellished memory.
Act though I live in fantasy:
I see your gaze fall to my hand.
Justify your lies to me.
Feign there was nothing there to see,
That words were winds and actions sand.
Taint each embellished memory.
I am but a storm out at sea....
Mystical
The mystical is in all you see and do,
Magic conjured by the most ordinary things—
If you have the right mindset and point of view.
It’s not all jar spells and wishes come true,
Or bathing in moonlight at the turn of spring.
The mystical is in all you see and do.
To recall loved ones on a day that is blue,
Resurrection starts with the act of reminiscing;
If you have the right mindset and point of view.
The spell for starting over anew
Starts with inner belief, not sacrificing.
The mystical is i...
